What is a hero? Is a hero a person that serves in the military, a firefighter, or is a hero an average person? Maya Angelou says” I think a hero is any person relay intend on making this a better place for all people.” I agree with what Maya Angelou said because a hero could be someone trying to make the world a better place for everyone. A hero is someone who helps another when they are in need of help no matter what the cost is.. Even if it means to risk their own lives for others. Hero’s are never cruel to anyone or animal.
A hero will risk their life to help other people. A selfless act. For example the story of the man in the red bandana. He died while saving other people on 9/11 when the twin tower were destroyed by terrorists. Another example is Abraham Lincoln funeral Sermon Dr. Phineas D. Gurley says “ He is dead; but the god in whom he trusted lives, and he can guide and strengthen his successor.” Frederick Douglass autobiography say “But, while attending the anti-slavery convention at Nantucket.... I felt strongly moved to speak, and was at the same time much urged to do so by Mr. William C. Collin.”

Take Mulan for instance she was brave by taking her father place in the army even though it could have meant death for her because a woman can not impersonate a man and join the army. If Mulan is caught she would be killed. Another example is Gaelon Phillips who save 50 people in hurricane Harvey in a boat with his uncle. Roy Madril Jr. and Chris Martinez save two kids by chasing after a carjacker who stole a woman’s car with the two kids inside of the
Webster’s dictionary defines a hero as any man admired for his courage, qualities or exploits, especially in war. Some people attribute the term hero mostly to war. My personal definition of a hero is someone who takes a stand against evil or an unjust cause. The term hero can be applied to anyone, it isn’t necessary to save the world from explosion to be a hero. The act of standing up for a friend can also be called a heroic act.
Who is a hero? In contemporary times, usage of the term has become somewhat of a cliché. Over the years, the term “hero” has become representative of a wide variety of individuals, each possessing differing traits. Some of the answers put forth by my colleagues (during our in-class discussion on heroism) as to whom they consider heroes pointed to celebrities, athletes, teachers and family members. Although the occupations differed, each of their heroes bore qualities that my classmates perceived as extraordinary, whether morally or physically. Nonetheless, Webster’s defines “hero” as “a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities.” Thus, it is worth considering that individuals become heroes relative to the situation with which they’re faced.
What is a hero? A hero can be classified as a number of things. A hero can be a person who in the opinions of others has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal. Ervin Staub, a holocaust survivor from Hungary and as scholar on altruistic behavior, has written, "Goodness like evil often begins in small steps. Heroes evolve; they aren't born. Very often the rescuers make only a small commitment at the start, to hide someone for a day or two. But once they had taken that step, they begin to see themselves differently, as someone who helps. What starts as mere willingness becomes intense involvement." The business man, Oskar Schindler, demonstrated a powerful example
Being a hero means to be willing to risk your life for others. Such as, Pat Tillman. Pat Tillman was a fantastic football player and he loved playing it too. Despite that, Pat Tillman turned down a 3.6million dollar contract to the Arizona Cardinals to go fight the war against terrorism. He ended up dieing from friendly fire. All this goes to show how brave Pat Tillman was to risk his life and give up his football career to go fight in Afghanistan to help protect the American people. Likewise, the people that helped evacuate New York City after the
What is a hero exactly; does anyone actually know? Is it required for a hero to die for their cause? Are they destined to risk their lives? What is a hero? A hero is a man or woman who has done or is helping others. These people are not needed to die for their causes; they can live peaceful and calm lives. A hero has to change something for the better of humanity or for the world. A hero can be someone who nurtures an injured baby bird back to health. Someone who serves to protect his or her country. An inventor can be a hero as long as they are not trying to take over the world. Anyone can be a hero. They just have to put themselves forward and try to put an effort to help. Percy Lavon Julian was an inspiration to all black people. He showed them that they can accomplish anything they strive for. He did this through his discoveries in science and

Maya Angelou once remarked that “a hero is any person really intent on making this a better place for all people.” Diverse answers may result from the question: "what is a hero?" depending on whom one asks. I believe a hero inspires through their phenomenal precedents and benevolent behaviors while possessing qualities not ordinarily seen in our culture. Angelou aspired to convey that kindness and heroism are not mutually exclusive, but rather fit together effectively to produce the heroes held in high regard in our society today. No matter what one might admire about a certain hero-- bravery, patience, or strength-- kindness lacks not in these traits, but rather encompasses them. For why would a hero act with bravery, patience, or strength
According to Merriam-Webster, a hero is a mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent endowed with great strength or ability: a warrior: a person admired for achievements and noble qualities: one who shows great courage. In poetry and song, literature, and action movies, the hero embodies the qualities of bravery, strength, and honor. While others define this concept as an actual cause a selfish or unselfish act, on the other hand, a hero is someone who stands for integrity and justice for all humanity and willingly put his life in peril for that belief. A hero is willing to lose all for the greater good for another person or institution. As noted there will always be different definitions of a hero as of the diverse perspective
“A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself” says Joseph Campbell.
For example, Ronald Reagan, a former US president, says, “Sometimes the greatest hero is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets people to do the greatest things”. This explains that heroes inspires others to do better and have a someone to look up to, but doesn't necessarily have to be the best at everything. Along with, Odysseus, in the Odyssey, Odysseus, is captured by a cyclops with his men and the cyclopes slowly kills many of his men, but Odysseus with the men he has left, who are scared and lost all hope, forms a plan to save the rest of them and avenge the ones lost. (SB 32) Even though, Odysseus had lost many of his men in the process he ended up saving the majority of his crew. Further, Odysseus had stepped up to, bravely, lead his men right when his men were on the verge of giving up. Heroism is taking risks while making sacrifices and leading others onto the right path, when there seems to be no hope or any other way, like how Ronald Reagan and Odysseus
