According to google.com a hero is someone who “is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievments, or noble equalities.” (google.com). For example, superman , superman is an all time american classic modern hero who is admired for his courage and for saving earth multiple times from super villains. Another example of a hero is Beowulf. Beowulf was created around 1000 AD and was known far and wide throughout the lands for his selflessness,bravery, and courage .

To start, Beowulf presents the trait Bravery because he asks his king if he can go to Daneland to help the Danes deal with Grendel. During his time in Daneland he killed two beasts. Grendel, and Grendel's mother. In order to even think about battling something that's not human

you need to posses the trait bravery. Once he heard about where Grendel's mother was ,without any hesitation went into her secret underwater lair, battled, and eventually killed her .50 years later after Beowulf helped the Danes he is king of the Geats and ruler of Geatland .But a problem has occured and now a dragon is terrorizing his lands because some Geat took a gold cup from the dragon's lair. So what does Beowulf do? Beowulf, knowing that he is not as strong as he once was knowing that this would be his last fight and final doom gave out one last battle cry and started battling with the dragon . He was the only Geat to do so besides his follower Wiglaf . Beowulf shows he is brave throughout hi courageous acts of never backing down from a fight and fighting knowing it's his end .
Secondly , Beowulf is loyal . Beowulf shows the hero characteristic loyalty because he is loyal to who is superior or inferior to him . He does this by doing what his lord higlac tells him to do and doing what Hrothgar tells him to do by slaying Grendel and his mother .“Proclaiming that he’d go to that famous King, would sail across the sea to Hrothgar, now when help was needed.” (114-116) and Beowulf says that he would not fight with weapons because his lord Higlac would not be proud.“Won't fight with weapons My lord Higlac would not be proud…”(264-266).This shows that Beowulf would not disobey his lord Higlac and would not let down Hrothgar . Beowulf shows the hero characteristic loyalty along side with bravery and selflessness .
Finally, One of the many buy most noticeable characteristics of the hero Beowulf is his selflessness.

Beowulf is selfless because he puts others before him no matter how rich or poor they are and does things that regular people would think to be the unthinkable. The first act of Selflessness that Beowulf shows is when he requests permission from his lord Higlac to go help the Danes kill Grendel. “Won’t go to fight Grendel without Lord’s consent …” (116-119). This quote not only shows that Beowulf is not only willing to go help the Danes deal with Grendel but also wants to go help the Danes kill Grendel. Another example of Beowulf acting selfless is when the Danes ask him to kill Grendel's mother, he does so without no hesitation . He kills the mother of Grendel because she was going to start terrorizing the Danes so Beowulf decided that his job was not finished Grendel's mother was killed . The last act of Beowulf acting selfless is when he is old and weak. As king of the Geats Beowulf decides to act upon the dragon that was terrorizing his lands . What he does is the unthinkable , Beowulf grabs his sword and lets out one last battle cry knowing that he was going to die , but die for his people.This shows that Beowulf is selfless because he sacrificed his life for others which is the ultimate act of

selflessness.
In conclusion , Beowulf is brave, selfless, and courageous. Beowulf , alongside with many other heroes uses his strength and powers for good and to protect his people from evil, just like Batman . He protects Gotham city from the Joker and many other super villains who threaten him and his people .All in all every hero is the same. From protecting Gotham city from a Joker to slaying trolls in ancient Denmark, They will always save the day.
