Introduction My role as a teacher is to give children the skills and knowledge with which they can learn and grow from throughout their lives to become accomplished, intelligent and independent adults of the community. I believe every child is a unique individual that has the desire and is capable to achieve Maslow’s theory of the ultimate goal of Self Actualisation. I am aiming to provide a stable classroom that encourages all children to move up the hierarchy to gain a satisfying level of self- actualization. My goal is to ensure this progress is not disrupted by failure to obtain any of the lower needs. I am aiming to ensure all children’s physiological needs are meet before attending school and while at school. To ensure this happens, I will educate all students, parents and care givers on the importance of a child receiving a sustainable breakfast before attending school. Also ensuring they are aiming for the recommended nine and a half hours sleep each night at home. If these needs have been achieved children have a higher chance of concentrating on class activates, which is an advanced essential higher up in the hierarchy. Safety Needs The second level of Maslow Hierarchy is safety needs. Maslow believes children have the need to feel safe and secure (McInerney, 2014). To achieve a safe learning area I will ensure all my students are aware bullying is an unacceptable deed, and name calling and bad behavior including violence will not be tolerated towards any other students or teachers. I want understandable achievable limits to be set in my classroom and for all children to feel a sense of security both in the classroom and in the playground.
