The Marine Corps Commandant General James L. Jones wants to lead the Marines into the 21st century with a new camouflage utility uniform. You may ask, why do the Marines need to differentiate their uniform from other branches; or why do the Marines need a new utility uniform at all. The answer to these questions can be summed up in two words: Forward Movement. Some Marines are having difficulties with the changes that have occurred as well as the changes that are coming. On 1 May 2000 General Jones began to start the transition from the old uniform to the new uniform. Three steps have been taken to change the way Marines look while in their uniform. First, Marines were no longer authorized to wear the brown undershirt. This movement came about to distinguish the corps">Marine Corps as an amphibious branch. The Army Soldier is authorized to wear the brown undershirt, and the Air Force Airman wears a black undershirt. Secondly, a new belt for the utility uniform is currently being implemented. The belts represent the individual Marine’s status in Martial Arts training. The “rigger’s belt” will be worn in five different colors: Tan, Grey, Green, Brown, and Black. The Marine has an option to don a new color once training for that level has been completed. Finally, the third change involves the utility uniform itself, also known as “cammies”, giving it a complete makeover. The current cammie design for all branches of the Armed Forces is over twenty years old. The textile industry has made many advances in the production of clothing providing more comfort and durability. Revolutionary advances within the clothing industry, Velcro and zippers, are being tested on the new cammie uniform. Velcro could be used instead of buttons on the pockets, and zippers may replace the buttons on the fly of the trousers. While on garrison duty, zippers may also be used on the blouse, to unzip the arm portion of the sleeve, to avoid rolling up the sleeves in garrison duty during hotter climates. The basic pattern of the cammie uniform will have a face-lift as well. With the exception of angled chest pockets for easier accessibility, the new utilities will have the same design appearance as the today’s cammie uniform. New material that requires no ironing will increase the durability of the cammie material. The material will last longer than that of the current cammie material, which will normally fade in six months.
Since my character was Major O'Dowd I decided to do my presentation on the uniforms not only of the Major, but also the men that were in his regiment including Captain Dobbin, George Osbourne and Captain Rawdon. When Major O'Dowd headed off for the Battle of Waterloo outside of Brussels he was most likely outfitted in something along these lines; a Red jacket lined with white. It had a royal blue collar patch and cuffs, golden buttons, shoulder epaulettes, shoulder cords, trimming and piping. He wore a black stock and white collar band with white enamel crossed with a red center. This same cross on the collar band would also be found on his breast. Next came a crimson sash, white waist belt and slings. A gentleman of his position would wear white gloves, gray trousers with a golden side stripe and black shoes. Major O'Dowd would have carried a steel sword and a scabbard with mother of pearls embedded in the grip, a golden guard and a sword knot. He wore a black cocked hat with silver lace, golden tassels and a white and red plume. This was noted as the correct outfit for a major general
Before the American Civil War, ready-made apparel existed but its variety was limited. Coats, jackets and undergarments were only available in predetermined sizes. Most clothing was made by tailors, by individuals, or by their family members at home. The Civil War was a pivotal event in the historical development of men’s ready-made clothing. At the outset of the Civil War, most uniforms were custom-made in workers’ homes under government contract. As the war continued, however, manufacturers started to build factories that could quickly and efficiently meet the growing demands of the military. These factories were able to make uniforms for a fraction of the cost of home sewers. Mass-producing uniforms necessitated the development of standard sizes. Measurements taken of soldiers revealed that certain sets of measurements tended to recur with predictable regularity. There were certain ratios of shoulder to waist measurements that occurred more frequently than others. After the war, these measurements were used to create the first commercial sizing scales for men. Today these ratios p...
Confederate and Union soldiers often wore civilian-style underwear that they provided themselves. Officers and wealthy individuals frequently wore linen undergarments purchased from commercial houses. Junior officers and enlisted men, on the other hand, usually wore military issued cotton and wool garments.
She befriends Renee and their common interest for Art makes Paloma, in addition to Renee, “[forget] even the very notion of trying to hide who [they] [are]” (Barbery 148). When Paloma stays as a guest in Renee's lodge, Renee reveals to Paloma that "[she] ha[s] found a good hiding place" but however, Paloma does not hide away in front of Renee. Instead, they are vulnerable to each other in light of the way that Art bonds them together. Art touches their inward soul. Paloma sees through the "“intuition of disaster in [Renee’s] heart", which gives her hope— the possibility to “change one’s fate” (Barbery 148). Not similar in age, condition and conditions, the dubious alliance—reinforced by artistic solidarity—bonds their souls. By comforting Renee, Paloma discovers meaning for life in a way that can serve others. Life is no longer like solitary confinement for her because Art impacts Paloma in a way that leads her on a quest to find the meaning of her

...ho may suffer from it. However, others see autism spectrum disorder and Asperger’s syndrome to be a way of individualizing the people who are afflicted with the disorders. These people believe that it is important to embrace the disorders as opposed to eliminating them. Personally, I believe the choice should be decided by the adults who are diagnosed with autism because they would have a better understanding of the effects of this disorder on their lives. Some may be happy that they can individualize themselves from the rest of society and live their lives the way they feel is best; however, others may wish for a cure to what they believe is to be a curse on themselves. Regardless of how they feel about being affected with autism spectrum disorder, the adults with autism and the youth with autism are still living one day at a time, just like the rest of society.
While working with George Clooney, many movie directors like Jerry Weintraub have been known to yell “Where the hell is Clooney?” while on set for a movie; meanwhile, Clooney is off pranking a fellow cast mate or good friend. Clooney, being a prankster and all around charming guy, brings a positive vibe to any room. Sometimes this positivity can come from his pranks, spontaneous personality, or simply his outlook on life. Adding to his positivity, Clooney has donated large amounts to a variety of charities. His successful acting career reflects on who he is in real life. The constant theme in the movies he stars in is “doing the right thing as opposed to the expedient thing” (Blackman xxvii). Whether it is how he treats others, donating to
The military was built on long standing values and customs and courtesies such as saluting, being willing to die for your country, professionalism, and respecting the uniform that you wear by wearing it proudly. All service members are proud of their uniform and what it stands for, but many people don’t know what a uniform is. Oxford Dictionary defines uniform as something that is not changing in form or character; remaining the same in all cases and at all times. Synonyms of uniform are unchanging and constant. If we have a line up of military members in uniform under this n...
We have been aware of autism since the early 1900’s. Autism was very rare until the mid-1960’s. According to the article History of Autism by the website WebMD, “The word ‘autism,’ which has been in use for about one hundred years, comes from the Greek word ‘autos,’ meaning ‘self.’ The term describes conditions in which a person is removed from social interaction -- hence, an isolated self.” Eugen Bleuler was the first to use this word in 1911, when he referred to a group of schizophrenias. It was not until the 1940’s when the United States researchers started using the word “autism” to ...
Autistic disorder is also known as “autism.” Autistic disorder is the main form of autism that is seen in 60% of people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (Bernier pg. 13). Autism is diagnosed typically at the age of two or older. Before the age of two communicative skills have not been grasped and makes it difficult to diagnose autism. With autism people have trouble with communication skills, social interactions, and normal behaviors. With autistic disorder severely impaired language is detected and people have trouble with intellect. Some people with Autism tend to stay nonverbal throughout their lifetime. Trouble with carrying out activities is also an act of people with autism. With this, children may be inattentive or careless. This is not to be confused with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD).

Story telling animals, a hookah smoking caterpillar, a Cheshire cat who can teleport, decks of cards which are alive, and food that makes Alice grow or shrink drastically, what is this girl on? In Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, the reader follows Alice on many peculiar and uncanny adventures, all the time speculating how on earth these bizarre events could possibly be happening to this inquisitive child. Throughout the novel, Alice starts questioning these things herself. How did she fit through the rabbit hole in the first place, and why didn’t she feel like the same old Alice once she fell to the bottom? Perhaps she was only escaping the boring reality in which she spent every day in a rich home, following strict rules

According to an Audrey Osler, there are 10 reasons why we need Social Sciences. After reviewing the article, I found several reasons interesting. The first, Science has played an important role in human development. Technological advancements have improved not only our health, but the way we live. The field of Social Sciences, which began to come of age at the turn of the 19th century, also played a role in human development. The various fields helped us understand how we perceived ourselves (Psychology), ho we interacted with our environment (Sociology), and even the human remains and artwork (Archeology: Paintings at Altamira) found began to paint a different picture of who we are. Branches of the Social Sciences like History, Economics, and Education also do their part assisting with Humanity’s advancement. The study of History can help society appreciate the richness of our/a culture and teach us about our past. The field of Economics helps society understand how the “wants and needs” of the individual members of the society can drive said society to develop different economic systems that can either improve or deteriorate not only their financial wellbeing, but in some cases, of low income minorities, even their health. Education encompasses a broader spectrum of studies, especially in EC-6. Education in these grades begins to introduce students to the Sciences (Government, History, Political Science, Social Studies) which will hopefully make them productive civically responsible members of
