While working with George Clooney, many movie directors like Jerry Weintraub have been known to yell “Where the hell is Clooney?” while on set for a movie; meanwhile, Clooney is off pranking a fellow cast mate or good friend. Clooney, being a prankster and all around charming guy, brings a positive vibe to any room. Sometimes this positivity can come from his pranks, spontaneous personality, or simply his outlook on life. Adding to his positivity, Clooney has donated large amounts to a variety of charities. His successful acting career reflects on who he is in real life. The constant theme in the movies he stars in is “doing the right thing as opposed to the expedient thing” (Blackman xxvii). Whether it is how he treats others, donating to …show more content…
As a child, “Clooney always had an innate sense of fairness” (Blackman 5). This characteristic is what he would be known for as a man. During his youth he took on musical roles in his school, made appearances at public functions with his father, and played multiple sports. As an adolescent, Clooney was strongly influenced by his family. “He grew up in a home where famous people seemed normal were just regular people, where entertaining was part of the family culture, where conversation typically included discussion of what was going on in the world” (Blackman). These family moments were crucial in shaping Clooney as an actor as well as a man. George Clooney’s charm, wit, and competitive nature as well as strong leadership from family are crucial factors in his rise to fame; furthermore, these elements accounted for his positive attitude and beneficial …show more content…
As he became more and more popular, he started scoring more roles as the protagonist. Being the protagonist in a film means that the people who watch can be influenced by the protagonist’s actions. Granted not every film starring Clooney is an applicable, positive influence, but many of them are. Many of his films feature the character he plays learning a valuable lesson; for example in the film O Brother Where Art Thou? George stars as a prison escapee searching for treasure who eventually learns to repent his sins (early in the movie he mocks baptization) and finds reason. Another instance occurs in a more recent film that Clooney directs and stars in titled The Monument Men where an unfit WWII platoon is tasked to recover stolen art masterpieces from Nazi thieves. The moral values presented in this film can easily be predicted based on the description. Firstly, the film portrays the act of stealing in a negative way by making the Nazis, an iconic hate-group, the thieves. Secondly, the movie recognizes the importance of art and how art influences people by making it the main goal of the protagonists to find. Lastly, the setting of the film being in WWII commemorates who fought in the war. Based on these two films as well as multiple others, it is certain that Clooney played leads in movies with positive themes to influence the watcher’s moral

Celebrities hold a strong power to influence the lifestyle trends of an audience. As members of the entertainment industry, celebrities are looked up to as role models by a large general public. With such high exposure, celebrities essentially hold the power to positively or negatively influence their followers, from fashion trends to behavioral tendencies, the attitudes and lifestyle habits of celebrities influence cultural qualities and the way in which many people function within society. Mindy Kaling’s career started when she became an intern on the popular show “Late Night with Conan O’ Brien”. Christopher Johnson McCandless, a.k.a Alexander Supertramp, “Master of his Own Destiny.” He was an intelligent young man who presented himself as alone but really he was never lonely. However, he believed that life was better lived alone, with nature, so he ventured off throughout western United States before setting off into Alaska’s wild unprepared where he died. Some may say he was naive to go off on such a mission without the proper food and equipment but he was living life the way he wanted to and during his travels he came across three people: Jan Burres, Ronald Franz, and Wayne Westerberg. McCandless befriended these people, it is believed that he made such a strong impression on them that their connection left them with strange feelings after finding out about McCandless’ death.
For many of us “regular folk”, we dream of visiting California and seeing celebrities or even being one. We see Hollywood as a heaven or even a holy bubble that we all want to be in. This is not true for all, but it is for most. We as a society do not generally think of the negative impacts Hollywood and fame has on an individual. Carrie Fisher, with her wit, humor, and extreme honesty, takes us inside her life and gives us her insight on Hollywood based her upbringing. After going through multiple triumphs, tragedies, and revelations Fisher writes about it all in her book, Wishful Drinking, along with three other novels she has written. Now you see why I used the term “regular folk,” because Fisher is the opposite of a “regular folk.” Even
Ghosts; figures that haunt and torment the living due to unfinished business. They have long been a part of society, and have frequently appeared in literature throughout the ages. The character I chose to analyze is Bonnie Grape from What's Eating Gilbert Grape, an American drama film directed by Lasse Hallström. Bonnie Grape is a Caucasian woman who is, approximately, in her mid 50’s and lives in a small town of Endora, Iowa with her four children, and has lost her husband seven years ago. Bonnie who is suppose to be the immediate care taker of all of her kids is shown to have abandoned all of her parental duties after her husbands passing and she hasn’t left the house for seven years. She has become completely housebound she sleeps, eats, and stays on the couch all day. Her day starts out with eating breakfast with the family, and then she watches TV all day. Even though she loves her children a lot, but she does not take any part in raising them. She also has become an object of ridicule or amusement many times children sneak on to the yard to catch a glimpse of her through the window. However, Bonnie sees no problem with her weight or her lifestyle, until one day when she has to make a trip to the town for her son. When Bonnie is leaving the town a crowd comes together around the police station to get a glimpse of Bonnie, and many also begin taking pictures of her. At this point, Bonnie realizes that she has become something that she never intended to be. In one particular scene Bonnie tells her oldest son Gilbert “I know what a burden I am. I know that you are ashamed of me. I never meant to be like this. I never wanted to be a joke” (Hallström, 1993). From Bonnie’s background information we can conclude that she is clearly facing some psychological problems, and in order to gain more information we would have to conduct more assessments.
Before the likes of Spider-Man, Captain America, and Thor ever hit the big screen, there was Blade the Vampire Hunter. The character, played by Wesley Snipes, was one of Marvel Comics' first big movie stars and spawned a successful trilogy of films during its run in the late 90's and early 2000's.
There are many celebrities who support and promote causes and charities to create awareness about peace, humanitarian causes, poverty, and illness in the world. Does celebrity activism really have the intention to help others or do celebrities get involved in it because they want to enhance their reputation? Although some celebrity activists do not have a good reputation because of their bad behavior, they contribute to society by giving donations or by supporting good causes. Celebrity activism matters because celebrities are powerful tools who raise awareness of good causes. Celebrities have the power to attract people’s attention, for instance, their fans, to influence them to support the important causes.

Characters in a book are sometimes loved or hated by readers. Sometimes this hate or love for a character will transform into the opposite, hate into love, and love into hate. Simply because as the story went with the character it started to evolve and transform before the reader 's eyes. Once they think they know everything about a character, something different and shocking will happen to prove the fact wrong. In the story, “The Man From Mars” by Margaret Atwood, the main character, Christine goes through a transformation from the beginning of the story to the end. When Brittany Murphy died, when Lindsay Lohan was jailed, when Britney Spears shaved off her hair, the question was asked – what have we done to these kids? We all love rags to riches stories, but it seems that the people are almost as fond of riches to rags – or let’s say, stardom to failure. What happens when a successful young performer becomes a has-been star? The high-profile troubles of celebs like Michael Jackson and Gary Coleman reinforces the truth that nearly every kid who has worked in the entertainment industry has struggled as an adult. Although some may argue that several child stars have gone on to have stable and successful careers as adults, our contention here is that a lot of celebrities who were exposed to the limelight at a young age become scarred for life by their early success and fame and tend to compensate for the childhood they were deprived of during their later years in life.
The world stopped upon knowing that one of the world’s most desirable bachelors has finally been taken off the market. It made us wonder who snatched the heart of the always-dashing George Clooney. Many hearts were depressed as they watched one of Hollywood’s hailed actors tie the knot in the romantic setting of Venice. Little did we know that this lucky lady is more than just a woman with Clooney’s last name after the wedding took place. In fact, Amal Clooney is another interesting personality that’s worth following due to her substance and style.
Movie stars. They are celebrated. They are perfect. They are larger than life. The ideas that we have formed in our minds centered on the stars that we idolize make these people seem inhuman. We know everything about them and we know nothing about them; it is this conflicting concept that leaves audiences thirsty for a drink of insight into the lifestyles of the icons that dominate movie theater screens across the nation. This fascination and desire for connection with celebrities whom we have never met stems from a concept elaborated on by Richard Dyer. He speculates about stardom in terms of appearances; those that are representations of reality, and those that are manufactured constructs. Stardom is a result of these appearances—we actually know nothing about them beyond what we see and hear from the information presented to us. The media’s construction of stars encourages us to question these appearances in terms of “really”—what is that actor really like (Dyer, 2)? This enduring query is what keeps audiences coming back for more, in an attempt to decipher which construction of a star is “real”. Is it the character he played in his most recent film? Is it the version of him that graced the latest tabloid cover? Is it a hidden self that we do not know about? Each of these varied and fluctuating presentations of stars that we are forced to analyze create different meanings and effects that frame audience’s opinions about a star and ignite cultural conversations.
