As my mother and father were to me, Teacher Xiao was to him. Teacher Xiao was one of Li’s favorite teachers and according to the text, “He had been my mentor, my only mentor, the only teacher in whom I could confide. He was like a parent to me.” Teacher Xiao noticed something different about Li and the talent that he had. Thus, Teacher Chan started teaching Li separately. He was the one who taught Li to love ballet; he was the one who always encouraged Li when Li struggled. He treated Li nearly as well my mother and father treated me. After school everyday, my mother and father would sit beside me and teach and guide through everything I had skipped. Many tears were shed during those few months but every single one came with prize. By the end of that year, I was the top student in the class. I had managed to beat even the smartest people and they were jealous, but they didn't see the hard work I had put to come to
In the epilogue to The Death of Woman Wang, we see several ways in which Chinese culture determined the sentence meted out to the Jens by Huang. False accusation of innocent persons was a capital crime in 17th century China, punishable by death. The Jens, however, were not executed. The largest factor in sparing the younger Jen, was based around the cultural importance placed on continuation of family lines and the strict ways in which this could acceptably happen.

There are different types of parent and child relationships. There are relationships based on structure, rules, and family hierarchy. While others are based on understanding, communication, trust, and support. Both may be full of love and good intentions but, it is unmistakable to see the impact each distinct relationship plays in the transformation of a person. In Chang’s story, “The Unforgetting”, and Lagerkvist’s story, “Father and I”, two different father and son relationships are portrayed. “The Unforgetting” interprets Ming and Charles Hwangs’ exchange as very apathetic, detached, and a disinterested. In contrast, the relationship illustrated in the “Father and I” is one of trust, guidance, and security. In comparing and contrasting the two stories, there are distinct differences as well as similarities of their portrayal of a father and son relationship in addition to a tie that influences a child’s rebellion or path in life.
Liu had different color skin than his classmates, he was a bookworm who wasn’t amusing to his classmates, the girls in his class did not like him at all, and the boys shot spitballs at him. Liu quotes, “There were one or two occasions in seventh grade when the toughs in the back of the bus taunted me, called me chink, shot spitballs at me” This quote means that Liu was bullied by the students who were sitting behind him in the school bus, and they shoot spitballs at him. Even though he had a hard time during that year, he still did not give up to make white friends who could stand up for him, to support him, and to make connections with other whites in high school. Since Liu learned how to get along with white friends, he was able to easily overcome those type of bad situations in high

Jonathan Spence tells his readers of how Mao Zedong was a remarkable man to say the very least. He grew up a poor farm boy from a small rural town in Shaoshan, China. Mao was originally fated to be a farmer just as his father was. It was by chance that his young wife passed away and he was permitted to continue his education which he valued so greatly. Mao matured in a China that was undergoing a threat from foreign businesses and an unruly class of young people who wanted modernization. Throughout his school years and beyond Mao watched as the nation he lived in continued to change with the immense number of youth who began to westernize. Yet in classes he learned classical Chinese literature, poems, and history. Mao also attained a thorough knowledge of the modern and Western world. This great struggle between modern and classical Chinese is what can be attributed to most of the unrest in China during this time period. His education, determination and infectious personalit...
