Management at Baxter Healthcare
Organization is a big management function at Baxter Healthcare. It takes a tremendous amount of organizing to run a successful organization year in and year out. There are many branches of the organizing function of management that are used in daily, monthly, and yearly activities. For the management of my organization, organizing is as critical aspect of planning for the present and future as any. In this paper I will discuss the importance of knowledge and technology in the organizing aspect of my organization and how they play a role in current and future activities.
Organizing is defined as the assembling and coordinating the human, financial, physical, informational, and other resources needed to achieve goals (Bateman & Snell, 2004). The aspect I want to first discuss is how knowledge plays a big role in the organizing function of management in my organization. This is extremely important for organizing an organization because management has to obtain as much knowledge as possible. Here is a quote I will share that I have in my office from management “To know that we know what we know, and that we do not know what we do not know, that is true knowledge" (Thoreau, n.d.). They have to know about their plans for the future, their employees, competitor’s plans, changes in their market, and what to expect from the customer. They also have to try and plan for the unexpected things that happen to an organization. My organization starts the knowledge process by attending a convention called Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI). It is a meeting of medical device organizations and customers who are there to preview and review existing and new products. It gives my organization a chance to know what is out there presently and what is on the horizon for our competitors. Baxter Healthcare uses this convention as a steeping stone for planning in the future. They will involve a large amount of management to go around to the different booths of other companies and find out what their products are all about. That gives the organization an idea of what we are up against and what we have to plan ahead for. The affect that knowledge and technology have not only has an organizing function of management, but on the company as a whole is enormous. Without those two aspects however, the management team at Baxter Healthcare would not be able to provide the insight or have the tools to establish such a great company and work environment. For a company to be part of the big players in this industry these two aspects have to be a must and fortunately for me and the organization they have done a great job of utilizing these tools!

Operations management is an important aspect of the health care industry. Without operations managers, no organization would run smoothly and successfully. Studying pre-existing models of operations management may be a smart approach to truly understand this field. But since technology is advancing by the minute, new concepts, and tools should be adapted for operations management. The book titled Operations Management strategically explains the different concepts, divisions, and approaches of operations management.
One purpose of this course is to train you to assess an organization’s strategy. Part of your skill development is utilizing knowledge to address the real problems of a business organization. At the same time, technology is increasing your ability to obtain information rapidly from multiple sources. Being able to gather and use such information will become a competitive necessity for anyone in business and management. To prepare you for this, we used information technologies to analyze, discuss, and present business issues throughout the semester.

As Schermerhorn states in Management planning, organizing, leading, and controlling are the tools needed by managers to accomplish performance goals. It is crucial that managers be able to recognize and act upon problems or opportunities as they arise. Planning is perhaps the cornerstone of the four processes. All good processes were at some point given great detail so as to anticipate possible problems and solutions to those problems. When the Honda Motor Company decided it needed to refine its inventory they didn't just jump at the first idea that was proposed; they first set their objectives and discussed ways to meet those objectives. After giving careful consideration to processes and the streamlining of those processes human error rose as the top need for change. Sounds simple you might respond; in reality it is much more complicated.
Planning and organizing is another vital quality needed for managers. If manager can do effective planning he can really contribute in the long term progress and development of his organization. Proper planning helps in useful and efficient use of the existing resources of the organization. After planning if you are not able to organize the things, this can really worsen your planning.
Organization is the function of assembling and coordinating human, financial, physical, informational and other resources needed to achieve goals. Without this function, my business would have folded in the first week. I have midlevel managers to gather together my employees, and discuss the plans for the week. Specific shoe styles must be displayed and organized in a certain order. Information must be disseminated to our marketing team so they know who we are targeting and what steps to take to increase our visibility and productivity. Organizing is not something just one person can do alone. For this function to work, it will take the entire team to pull together for us to triumphant.
In most organizations, effective utilization of knowledge increases productivity, creates competitive advantage and, ultimately, improves profits.
“An organization can only function well if it is well-organized. This means that there must be sufficient capital, staff and raw materials so that the organization can run smoothly and that it can build a good working structure” (Van Vliet, para.4). Not being organized works for some individuals but companies cannot grow with lack of organization. Everyone’s opinion of success is different, the company I work for is very successful but we do not consider that our success, since we continue to set goals and grow. We would not be able to grow the way we have over the last 10 years without organization. Organization is the roots for planning, staffing, and directing in my opinion.
Organizations and individuals have to strategically position themselves in order to take advantage of the growing technology and achieve business competitive advantage while at it (DeHaven 2010 pg 1). Technology has enabled globalization; where ideas, products and services have been shared. This has promoted foreign businesses thus helping different economies all across the globe. Managers must understand how to achieve efficiency internally through applying new technology to operational processes. Managing new technology requires a thorough understanding of business technology management.
