Make America hate again Abramsky, Sasha. "Make America Hate Again." New Statesman, vol. 145, no. 5338, 28 Oct.2016, pp. 24-29. EBSCOhost. libproxy.uml.edu/login?url=http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=lfh&AN=119128512&site=eds-live. In the article “Make America Hate Again”, by Sasha Abramsky, she explains how Donald Trump is divining the country apart with his ideology and false messages. Even before being elected president of the United States Donald Trump was known as the “Law and Order” candidate, he structure his political policies on tougher punishment for criminals, “torturing terrorists”, and punishing family members of terrorist members. Abramsky, stated that America is an endless cycle of violence with crime and police brutality. Unlike our western European democratic countries, the United States has far more citizen death by law enforcement and higher violent crime rating. The majority of his supporters lack knowledge on “anti-immigration, and anti-Muslims”, seeing them as a threat to the country and asking to ban Muslims from the U.S. …show more content…
The 2008 market crash cause many workers to lose their job and blame immigrants for it. In recent year the number of hate crime has increase from attack on the LGBT community, to vandalism of religious building (Mosque), to murder of Sikhs mistook for Muslims. Any public officials or anyone that speak against Trump have their lives threaten by his supporters. This article would be great for my research because it highlights the racial disparity in the United States, the role of law enforcement when interacting the citizens. Furthermore, it compared the U.S. with similar well develop countries. Also, this article talked about the 2008 recession, high education cost, and income inequality. Lastly, this article talked about the ban of a whole culture, people inability to use their free speech because they fear for their lives and family. The Toxic Tap Sanburn, Josh, et al. In April 2014 in a cost saving effort in Flint Michigan, the city stops purchasing their drinking water from Lake Huron water in Detroit, and start using water from the local river.
As a result, the water was contaminated with lead because the city did not properly take care of the pipeline, a lot of people become ill due to drinking the water. It took officials 18 months to acknowledge the crisis after a researcher pointed out that lead contamination as double in children since using the local river drinking water. Back-then president Obama declare the Flint water crisis a federal emergency and funded the city with financial aid, and other states and volunteers donates bottle of water for the people of Flint. Due to the city long reaction effort 10 people have died from drinking the contaminated water. The need to save money has hurt the city of Flint Michigan gravely and the people are still
suffering. The reason I choose this article is because in the essay “What’s so great about America”, by Dinesh D’Souza he said “here is a country where everything works”. I needed to counter that claim the Flint water is a great example of how fragile our infrastructure in America are. Plus, the water pipes and Flint are still not fix, there have been some progress. There are more poorly, unsafe critical infrastructure that we depend on for example; the failed levee in Louisiana, and major bridges, highway, and dams that need major repair. America’s Mediocre Test Score Petrilli, Michael J. and Brandon L. Wright. "America's Mediocre Test Scores: Education Crisis or Poverty Crisis?." Education Next, vol. 16, no. 1, 01 Dec. 2016, pp. 46-52. EBSCOhost. libproxy.uml.edu/login?url=http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=eric&AN=EJ1084033&site=eds-live. This article about the low test score of American students and the relationship with poverty compared to other country. The article stated that the lack of “financial resources can create toxic condition in the home”. Without money most family can afford to provide their children with additional help for their education. Parents in the U.S without a high school diploma tend to live in poverty and their children are underperforming in school compare to their more financial stable peers. In the Organization for Economic Cooperation Development (OECD), the U.S. is ranked 27th among 34 other countries. In the U.S. a family making less than $26,000 a year is considered to be poor, compare to the median household income of $52,000. I pick this article because it great when it comes to measure the United States educational system worldwide, and the income inequality. The article also points out that poverty drastically effect how well a student perform in school. Furthermore, this article points out that even the more financial stable income students are underperforming compared to other countries. The Many Contributions of Immigrants to the American Economy Bellows, John. U.S. Department of the Treasure. 25 May 2011. . Immigrants living in the United States are more likely to start a business compares to non-immigrants, they are “highly entrepreneurial”. Compared to U.S. born citizens, immigrants are” more likely to have an advance degree”, or a Ph.D... Immigrants have co-founded some of the technology that are used in our daily lives like; Google, Intel, eBay and Yahoo. Immigrants tend do the job that most U.S. born citizens will not work. I choice this article because I wanted to show, how immigrants have help America prosper at faster rate than any other country, and the economy. In the past year immigrants have being discriminated against more than usually. I wanted to show that they are backbone of the U.S. economy, the work for less, do job most of us will not work

This is why the Flint water crisis is so critical today. Because young children are being exposed to lead and they should actually be screened from the lead. The pipelines with lead in the water system and the whole community of Flint, not being able to drink water out of the facet as well as not being able to

The lead got into the water because the city started using the Flint River until they could get it from somewhere else, and the pipes had lead in them, but they didn't fix them in order to save money because it was temporary. While the water was passing through the pipes the lead came off and got into the water.

... water crisis will have a long term affect on those who are consuming this water on a daily basis. Lead attack the brain and can cause coma and possibly death. Children who survive lead poisoning are left with serious health issues such as metal defects and leave a child mentally unstable. Even at lower levels of exposure symptoms such as behavioural changes such as reduced attention span, reduced intelligence quotient (IQ). Children with smaller amount of lead exposure also showed increased anti social behaviour, it also reduces educational attainment. These side effect of high lead exposure can leave children scarred for life. The water crisis in Flint Michigan car scar children for life. This could all be resolved if they could come to an agreement and replace the water pipes, allowing for cleaner and healthier water to be accessible to citizens in Flint Michigan.
These days, America is filled with those people who disagree with our system of government. Most times, these people suffer silently, expressing their opinions through their votes, or within the discussions that they hold in their own private homes. When these people act upon this anger, and their disagreement, the feelings are brought beyond the point of normal behavior to vigilantism and violence. This animosity, when pushed to these limits, often results in tragedy, a tragedy that we call domestic terrorism.
The article “concludes... ... middle of paper ... ... fanaticism of terror. They torment the lives of millions in fractured nations around the world. These obsessions cripple both those who are hated and, of course, those who hate, robbing both of what they might become.” (Clinton, screen #1) Racism grows when immigrants come to the United States, because they are the target of discrimination for racist groups.
In viewing the vedio two difining events come to mind Immigratiom Act of 1990 and The American Civil War. The Immigration Act of the 1990was an amendement incacted by George W. Bush but first introduced by Ted Kenndy in 1989 . The Immigratiion Act of 1990 is to increase the number of legal immigrants into the Unites States it also brought in the lottery system which randomly assigns visa to immigrants but it also prohibited visa's from being given to certian counties and homosexuality, like Prisdent Trumps is doing now with the Musilims. and The American Civil War in the 19th century. Muslims should be banned from entering the United States and we should have a database to track every American Muslim” (Healy). This recent statement by the Presidential candidate, Donald Trump asserts that Islamophobia in the United States is not a myth. Islamophobia is a serious issue which distresses many Muslims in the United States today. Thus, creating tension between Muslims and many fellow Americans leading to hate crimes, stereotypes, and inhumanity. This phenomenon is one which was created by Radical Islam and given life by the media.
Throughout this article the author states how President Trump has been handling his new presidency. Trump has made many claims in his speeches that aren't true nor accurate. These claims include having a record high murder rate in 47 years. This is not an accurate claim because in 2015 the crime rate was 4.9 people per 100,000 compared to murder rates in the 1980s and 1990s at an 8 to 10 people per 100,000. Trump has been fact checked many times about his allegations yet he does not seem to make a difference in his approach. Many people had high hopes for Trump as president but he has been off to a rough start so far.
Trump’s utilization of this part of the theory is one of the reason’s he is the Republican front runner. Although he does not use the fear tactics utilized by Hitler and Stalin, he uses perhaps a more effective way of using fear. He makes people believe they should feel unsafe due to things such as the Muslim people. Trump has shared his ideals about the Muslim people various times. Trump has said in an interview with Fox and Friends that in order to take out ISIS “you have to take out their families” (Levitz, 2015) He has also claimed we need a “total and complete shutdown of the country’s borders to Muslims” (Pilkington, 2015). With these statements Trump is utilizing the fear of terrorist’s attacks such as 9/11 and the Paris massacre. People are scared that another attack such as those will happen on American soil again. If you do not believe me, take the word of one of his supporters “Mr. Trump is not against Muslims. . . . Not all Muslims are bad, but ISIS, they are Muslims, so I have to think we have to group them together now” (Johnson, 2016). This man later went on to say “He’s trying to keep Americans safe. Our lives are more important than theirs, and that’s just the reality” (Johnson, 2016). This clearly shows Trump’s utilization of fear tactics. Americans are afraid of terrorists and by extension
Hyper-nationalism is one of the principal themes to fascism. While nationalists try to promote a strong government and national independence, another name for hyper-nationalists are extreme patriots. Hyper-nationalism is dangerous because it results in one nation thinking it can exterminate another nation because it is superior to the other nation. Well known socialist, George Orwell once said, “A patriot is someone who wants to defend his country, its culture and way of life whereas a nationalist is someone who wants to impose his country, culture and way of life. Patriotism is defensive, nationalism offensive.”(Orwell).Trump wants to invest his presidency in “Making America Great Again” by focusing on the United States and not worrying about foreign territory. He has pride in our country and wants others to be proud to be an American which makes people fear his acceptance towards minorities. Trump wants to preserve the culture this
