Maglev Trains
As almost any child knows, magnets have the ability to attract and repel other magnets. This knowledge is now being utilized in separate projects in Germany and Japan to propel and levitate a new and innovative type of train, the magnetic lift train.
A German company called Transrapid is now able to build a train takes advantage of a magnets ability to attract magnetic materials. Upon observing the system from a distance, it looks to be composed of only T-shaped track and a train that wraps around the ledges of the track. However, the wrap-around part of the train hides the mechanisms that cause the train to levitate and to fly through the air. Ferromagnets on the underside of both of both the track’s ledges attract electromagnets on the wrap-around-the-track part of the train that is adjacent to the ferromagnets. A computer controls the amount of current flowing through the electromagnets in order to keep the train at a constant 1 cm from the track (#5). These electromagnets are powered by onboard batteries that are charged by linear generators that convert motion into electricity. In addition, the train needs more than its levitation system to maintain its proper lateral position on the track. The Transrapid system accomplishes this feat by creating an attractive field between magnets on both the track’s ledge’s sides and on the interior sides of both the warp-around-the-track parts of the train. The two attractive forces cancel each other out and cause the train to remain in the same lateral distance from the track.(Most of the information is form #4.)
In addition to levitating the vehicles with magnetic forces, the Transrapid train’s propulsion system also uses magnetism. The forces used to propel and break the vehicle are both created with the aluminum three-phase cable winding in the ferromagnets on the track and the electromagnets on the train. The train moves forward when an alternating current, supplied by an outside source, is sent through the windings on the track. This creates an alternating magnetic field that both pushes and pulls the train along the track. In order to slow the train down the alternating current is reversed. This causes the train to be pushed and pulled in the direction opposite of its motion. Also, this system is energy efficient because instead of electrifying the entire track, the only electrified part is length where the train is traveling.

Phenomena are situations or facts that have been observed and proven to exist. A few types of phenomena that help rollercoasters are gravity, kinetic and potential energy, and inertia. Gravity pulls roller coasters along the track as they’re going downhill. Potential and kinetic energy help rollercoasters to ascend hills and gain enough momentum to descend them and finish the track. Inertia keeps passengers pressed towards the outside of a loop-the-loop and in their seat. A hero is someone who invests their time helping others rather than themselves. They are always conscious of their surroundings and environment. Heroes help their enemies and friends regardless of the circumstances. A hero is also someone who is humble and knows when to be protective of others and themselves. Heroes are people who acknowledge flaws, and fix mistakes, those were my own definition of a hero. In “Undocumented Immigrant”, Jose Antonio Vargas tells the truth about his illegal status in the United States. Not only was he an immigrant in the United States, he was his own hero. Vargas proved that he is a hero through code switching, bravery and honesty.
“Even though roller coasters propel you through the air, shoot you through tunnels, and zip you down and around many hills and loops, they are quite safe and can prove to be a great way to get scared, feel that sinking feeling in your stomach, and still come out of it wanting to do it all over again (1).” Thanks to the manipulation of gravitational and centripetal forces humans have created one of the most exhilarating attractions. Even though new roller coasters are created continuously in the hope to create breathtaking and terrifying thrills, the fundamental principles of physics remain the same. A roller coaster consists of connected cars that move on tracks due to gravity and momentum. Believe it or not, an engine is not required for most of the ride. The only power source needed is used to get to the top first hill in order to obtain a powerful launch. Physics plays a huge part in the function of roller coasters. Gravity, potential and kinetic energy, centripetal forces, conservation of energy, friction, and acceleration are some of the concepts included.

A hero doesn't always have to be have to be a special individual saving another hopeful soul from a burning building, or being born as an extraordinary individual who has the powers to save lives. A hero could be anyone whose daily acts go unnoticed, and could never be heard. People spend their days doing these things without any notice the act of heroism. Heros can be anywhere without anyone noticing these simple jobs that they do to help others. Heroes can be blind to the human eye but can be notice by the simple acts of strength and selflessness inside them. Although some hero acts go unheard of, heroes can be selfless people, who take up the courage to fight for things bigger than oneself.
Erving Goffman was a highly influential in the study of sociology, specifically in the vein of symbolic interactionism. With his contributions to sociological groundwork, there were many significant theories on his behalf that changed the shape of sociology as we know it today. One of these concepts was “impression management,” which was coined by Goffman in his 1959 publication The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life. This concept introduced deeper levels into the theory of “self” and how a person operates on a daily basis to maintain the image they want others to see them as. In this paper, I will delve deeper into the concept of impression management by first explaining it in Goffman’s terms, then looking at scholars who influenced Goffman as well as those who were influenced by his theory. In doing this, I will come to the conclusion that impression management is a vital concept of sociology today and helps
A hero is one that disregards his or her life for the sake of others. Despite the obstacles or dangers, he or she behaves in a manner that is deemed by them to be beneficial for society. As a hero, there is a certain image they must portray to obtain the respect of their admirers. Being a hero is no ordinary person, a hero demonstrates discipline, strength, and perseverance.
Tom hanks, an American actor, once said, “A hero is somebody who voluntarily walks into the unknown.” A hero is someone who risks their lives, for the benefits of the world. They don’t give up easily and always puts others benefits before themselves. The literal meaning of a hero is, “a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities.” Heroism can be defined as brave, strong, and courageous.
Before the advent of the automobile, buggies were typically propelled by one or more horses. Even with the first automobiles there was a need for a drive system, though, since those horses were no longer there. One thing that has remained common to every car is a motor and transmission system of some sort, but what varies greatly between cars is what is between the transmission and the wheels, also known as the drive train. There are many different styles of drive trains, each with their own advantages and disadvantages.

Nurses who comfort the sick and dying can be considered heroes, heroes normally have an impact on your life, for example a 19 month year old child was playing on railroad tracks with a train approaching her, the conductors saw the child but were at such high speeds they could not slow down in time, so one of the conductors, father of four, walked out onto the catwalk and saved the baby just in time. Another example of heroic behavior is, two boys, unable to swim were being swept out to sea, with the mother yelling for help, a pregnant woman jumped into save them, she grabbed them and held them up, one on each arm, unable to keep her own head up, another heroic fellow jumped in and pulled them to safety. Being a hero can even mean working extra hours out in the sun to make enough money to send you child to college so they can have a better future then you
Today I would like to talk about mental illnesses and mental health issues. For anyone that doesnt know, a mental illness is a disease of the mind. A Report of the Surgeon General defines mental disorders as “health conditions that are characterized by alterations in thinking, mood, or behavior associated with distress and/or impaired functioning.” Everyone has difficult emotions from time to time and this is normal. Mental illness, on the other hand, is any condition that makes it difficult to function in daily life. Mental health conditions go beyond these emotional reactions and become something longer lasting. They are medical conditions that cause changes in how we think and feel. They are not the result of personal weakness, lack of character, or poor upbringing.
Heroes are perceived with a cape and a superpower but, that is not entirely true. Once said by Joseph Campbell, “A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.” That quote means heroes are much more than what media depicts them to be. A hero is a person who gets back up when they fall down, a hero is selfless, and also a hero is someone who has courage.
It was once said by Gerard Way, “Heroes are ordinary people who make themselves extraordinary.” The definition of a hero has been a debatable topic. Usually the first thing that people think of when they hear the word “hero” is mostly fictional superheroes, such as Superman or Batman. In reality, heroes are just ordinary people who make the world a happier place with their actions and characteristics. My opinion on this argument is the courage, compassion, and kindness that the person displays is what makes someone heroic.
Heroism can be defined differently to each person. The acts of of a defined ‘hero’ serve to help and make an impact on a life. The qualities show bravery and courage, whether they are defending our country or just simply lending a helping hand. A hero isn’t negative, nor a coward. A hero is there to help a person, or persons, and defend what is right. The meaning of a hero varies to each person, they make positive influences on the lives of other people with their heroic qualities.
“Heroes represent the best of ourselves, respecting that we are human beings. A hero can be anyone from Gandhi to your classroom teacher, anyone who can show courage when faced with a problem. A hero is someone who is willing to help others in his or her best capacity,” this is how Ricky Martin describes heroes. This quote indicates that it doesn't matter who you are you can be a hero whether you do something big or small it will still have an impact on someone or something. Heroism can not only mean being positive but also someone who puts other people before them, is courageous and is not scared of anything, and also does not make bad decisions.
