The movie Cloud Atlas consists of many interconnecting stories that all seem to hold their own story line, however, the true significance of the movie can be seen when you evaluate the connections between the different stories as a whole. Thus demonstrating that although the main characters from the stories never meet they are still connected to one another through each other's actions. This is clearly displayed through Halle Berry’s characters Jocasta Ayrs, Luisa Rey, and Metronym . Despite all three characters living in different worlds at different eras in time they all seem to share the same essence of loyalty.
Halle Berry’s first character is Jocasta Ayrs who is a married to the renowned composer Vyvyan Ayrs. Jocasta Ayrs loyalty can be seen since the beginning of the movie as she is still alongside her husband Vyvyan Ayrs even despite the fact that he seems to have lost all inspiration to compose and therefore he isn't the most successful man as he just remembered by his past work. Hence when Robert Frobisher arrives at her home she quickly realizes how beneficial he is to Vyvyan’s life as he has helped her husband reclaim fame by composing new pieces. All in all, Cyrano’s loyalty to Christian and to Roxane demonstrates the theme that loyalty forms a deep connection that extends beyond love. The motif of faithfulness shown between Cyrano and Roxane, even when love was no object, portrays the idea that being a dependable friend creates long lasting relationships. As Nicole Yatsonsky articulates, loyalty is a decision to stand by a friend in hard times, even when it hurts; and when things are going well, loyalty is a willingness to be outshone.

The courage and strength expressed in the parallel tales help to develop the characters and different themes simultaneously. These tales bring with them the struggle of the human spirit overcoming adversity but at the same time makes the characters humble and portrays them not as heroes but as ordinary people, surviving against almost certain death, people just trying to live. By Yolen making the characters so real she is able to never let the story soar into pure fantasy.
One of the most useful in advancing this story is the typical, powerful character. Whether it be supernatural or cunning this character always comes out on top in the situation and holds the most control over others and their actions. The “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?” , “Leda and the Swan”, and “Harrison Bergeron” all utilize an archetypical powerful character to create tension from how each character uses their power.
... story are just a vehicle that makes the process that turns the feelings of these women into actions whether they were intellectual actions or a physical action such as those taken by Mrs. Mallard and Calixta respectively. When we think realistically we can see that both Mrs. Mallard and Calixta both love their husbands. These women were thinking and feeling like individuals. One was acting it out as in Calixta's case and our Mrs. Mallard was starting to think about it. It is people like these two, that are hidden in the throngs of humanity to start a ripple in the water and it is the Kate Chopin's that write about these ripples that make the waves.
