The passion that a person possesses has never ceased to amaze me. When I see a person that has such enthusiasm for a specific interest or hobby, I can’t help but want to follow in the footsteps of that person. Seeing someone that has the power to inspire and holds the attributes of a great leader ignites a fire within me to become a more determined and focused individual. Fortunately, I have had the benefit of having several passionate and inspirational people in my life that I look up to. Little do these people know that I take notice of their every move and dream to one day acquire the same character traits that they possess. One of the most inspiring and passionate people in my life that I look up to is my friend Lordwin. I’ve known Lordwin …show more content…
Lordwin effortlessly graduated from Dorman High School with honors after facing the challenge of moving to a new country that a vast number of students struggle with each day. After he graduated high school, Lordwin attended tech for two years while working full time at Best Buy and also running his own photography business. He was very successful with his photography business where he attracted a huge number of clients that solidified his named within the upstate of South Carolina. His photography business inspired me on many different levels. I found a love for photography and design after being involved in several of his projects. He taught me the essentials of being a photographer and heavily influenced me on thinking of potentially starting my own business in the future. Lordwin is also a prime example that hard work pays off. After working full time at Best Buy, he transferred to an art institute in Atlanta, Georgia where they paid for a majority of his tuition. After a little while at the art school, Lordwin decided that his passion was somewhere else all along. He found a love for business and marketing so he then transferred to USC Upstate to
There have been countless books, lectures, and and trainings, and retreats constructed around the idea of cultivating leadership in an individual. However, cultivating individuals’ ability to follow great leadership has received far less attention. Who are these people leading if each person within an organization is being trained to be a leader? The word follower has negative connotations, evoking the images of a weak, uncreative, milquetoast personality. However, Jimmy Collins, in his book, “Creative Followership: In the Shadow of Greatness”, suggests that the ability to be led brings as much creativity, consciousness, and indeed leadership to an organization or team as the leader himself.
Even though William the Conqueror descended from a line of Vikings who had lived in France for over 200 years, William had more of an impact on the English language than the majority of influential English people of the time. The “French-speaking Normans brought a whole new vocabulary to England, whose language was closely related to German”(Barlow 8). Although he is most well known for the Norman invasion of 1066 that overthrew the Anglo Saxon reign, which had lasted for over six centuries, William was a very religious man. He was moral and righteous by the standards of the time, and devoted much of his time to the Norman church.
Modeling the way is described as a leader practicing what they preach (Kouzes and Posner 29). A leader should set the example of what they expect from those that follow them. When a leader inspires a shared vision they “envision the future by imagining exciting and ennobling possibilities” and enlist others to join them by appealing to shared aspirations (22). Leaders know that in order to succeed they must experiment and take risks in order to challenge the process, build trust so that they may enable others to act, and “create a spirit of community” so that they can encourage the heart (17, 22). Along with reading The Student Leadership Challenge, student leaders can also find role models in various leaders throughout history, such as, Queen Elizabeth I, who exemplified the five practices of exemplary leadership because she was inspiring, took great risks, and encouraged her nation. Queen Elizabeth set a great example for the people of England in the 1500s and for the people of today—more than 400 years later.
Our world is filled with many successful leaders. The gift of being a leader can be learned; however some individuals have a natural born talent to be a leader. Each leader has his or her own unique leadership style. The gift of being a leader can be learned. Certain individuals are born with a charismatic style and can easily be a leader. A successful leader is one who can inspire and motivate people towards a goal. Martin Luther King Jr. was an individual with a born gift to lead people. The following paper will discuss how Martin Luther King Jr. was able to inspire and motivate people with his effective leadership style.
She seeks the best in each and everyone person she meets. Helping people reach his or her full potential as God created him and her to become is this transformational leader’s goal in life. She knows that to become the one of the best leaders, she has to remain committed to renew learning daily, seek mentorship, and be flexible to change (Kouzes & Posner, 2012, p. 334). Self-development and honest evaluation assists her in personal growth. Kouzes and Posner (2012) continue, “No matter how good you are, you have to always want to be
"You have to be burning with an idea, or a problem, or a wrong that you want to right. If you 're not passionate enough from the start, you 'll never stick it out” (Steve Jobs). Reading that quote there is one word that really sticks out and says something to me; passionate. To be or to become the greatest leader in whatever field you’re into, if there is no passion in the work or goal you’re trying to achieve, you’ll never be able to stick it out or grow/prosper in the end. Just like the quote above from Steve Jobs states.
Throughout life, there are and have been leaders who have helped change and shape others view of the world by their charisma, strength, morals, and kindness. These particular people can help to create a vision along with intellectually stimulating people to broaden their horizons and to be successful in business and personal accomplishments. At one point of time, there was someone who I considered a leader, who motivated me by applying what is known as the Transformational Leadership Theory. Transformational leaders “inspire and empower” (LugoSantiago, 2016, p. 18) other individuals to become more well-rounded along with helping to achieving overall goals. With the Transformational
Leaders can have a powerful impact on the futures of many, and the way in which one approaches leadership is paramount to the type of impact one will have. Continual growth in the areas of knowledge I have and seek to acquire, as well as recognizing my leadership style and utilizing my personal strengths to the fullest, is vital to the successful implementation of my personal philosophy of leadership.
Growing up and being in college, I had to keep myself motivated at most times and I've always thought it would be great having the potential to influence and standing out to inspire.
To become a truly effective leader, one must encapsulate the various behaviors related to the aforementioned course learnings in his/her persona and demonstrate such behaviors daily. This course has allowed me to identify four behaviors that all leaders must portray to be effective. The first of which is that a leader must be inspirational. To do so, a leader must set the appropriate vision and direction for the organization and provide a path to achieving defined goals. Additionally, a leader must induce the proper levels of motivation so that each employee has sufficient incentive to work towards the organization’s goals. As discussed in the class, motivation can be accomplished by factors such as rewarding hard work and providing the correct opportunities to employees. While these are motivating in that employees desire to be fairly compensated and to be doing work they deem valuable, inspiration comes more from organizational culture. A leader will be inspirational by setting a tone that appreciates each employee’s contribution, no matter how small in scale it is. Further, employees are inspired when they work collaboratively in a group setting and can capitalize on individual strengths to drive organizational goals.
When leaders have inspired their followers, a sense of purpose, fellowship, and a desire to continue their work can be felt throughout their work environment (Schwantes, 2015). If an outsider were to stroll through my office, it would be evident that we are inspired to launch rockets. Members of my unit are willing to sacrifice personal time and work odd hours to ensure the mission is completed correctly. One member of my unit was so committed to the successful landing of a particular spacecraft, that he remained on station within three days of his report no later date of his next assignment.
We all can become effective leaders by becoming experts in our field, by working on our leadership skills such self- confidence, determination, ability to understand other people’s needs, emotions and goals, ability to motivate other people to achieve their full potential and more. The journey to great leadership is appearing more straightforward than ever before, and there is no deficiency of resources showing what is need to be improved to become a great leader. Leaders today have much more opportunity to learn than leaders before us. It starts by transforming ourselves, and cultivating the habits true leader should
Mostly people think, a charisma is the only thing of the real leader that attracts people to follow him, nevertheless the leader can not energize them without inspiration and motivation. If there are no inspiration so for what people are going to follow him? The leaders inspire followers by involving people in the work, supporting them and guiding to the way achieve the
...y inspire in others. One person in pursuit of excellence raises the standards of everyone around them. And they do this both in their work and in their life,” (Gordon 148). By doing all eleven of these things you will be on the road to become the best, and maybe the greatest of all time.
Some people were born to be great leaders and some were born to be great learners. I ask myself this question, “How was I created?” Was I born a leader or was I molded to lead. As I explain my philosophy on how I want to lead, I will first dive into my past to recognize and pin point my creator. October 27th 2004 I raise my right hand in order to serve and protect the United State against all enemies, foreign and domestic. At this moment in my young personal leadership journey, I get my first glimpse of a leadership style, “shut up and listen.”
