The artist I have selected was Damien Hirst. Damien Hirst is a British artist that specializes in the fields of conceptual art, installation art, and paintings. Hirst was born on June 7, 1965 in Bristol, England to Mary Brennan and his father Mr. Damien. He grew up in city of Leeds, England and in 1988; he attended the Goldsmiths, University of London. During this time, he curated the now renowned student exhibition, Freeze, held in east London. Hirst brought together a group of young artists who (he thought) would come to define “cutting-edge contemporary art” in the 1990s. In 1991, Hirst created the art “In and Out of Love” in Woodstock Street Gallery in London, France. This exhibition featured many different artworks from his collection. One of the first major work(s) that made a big impact was the white wooden shelf units with careful arrangements of pharmaceutical boxes and bottles. The exhibition also featured hundreds of live tropical butterflies, some of them which hatched right …show more content…
This magical piece features a platinum cast of a human skull encrusted with 8,601 flawless diamonds, including a pear-shaped pink diamond located in the forehead. It costs Hirst 14 million pounds to produce and he asked for a selling price of 50 million pounds. If this piece is sold, it could be the highest price ever paid for single work by a living artist. This piece went on display at the White Cube gallery in London. The reason for the name for this piece is from his own mother when she would ask him, “For the love of God, what are you going to do next?” The New York Times wrote a story about the school in its paper stating that {or at least the editor states} “Hirst will likely go down in the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s most extravagant artist”. Hirst replied with a laugh “I hadn’t thought about that!”…. “I deal with that with all my work. The markup on paint and canvas is a hell of a lot more than on this diamond
Jarrod J. Rein is an eighteen-year-old with dark brown hair and brown eyes to match the brown arid dirt of Piedmont, Oklahoma. His skin is a smooth warm tan glow that opposes his white smile making his teeth look like snow. Standing a great height of six foot exactly, his structure resembles a bear. He is attending Piedmont high school where he in his last year of high school (senior year). He is studying to be a forensics anthropologist. Also he is studying early in the field of anatomy to be successful in his profession. While not always on the rise for knowledge Jarrod’s swimming for his high school. In a sense it’s like you see double.
George Ohr was a mysterious and odd man. He was born in Bolixi, Mississippi July 12, 1857. His origins are from German. Meaning his parents were German immigrants who came to the United States. George Ohr was interested in various many other trades before finally learning about ceramics. He then became interested. He was an educated clay maker learning in New Orleans from a man named Joseph Meyer (“Wikipedia Contributors, George E. Ohr”).
... the greatest achievements of any painter, not only in Australia, but anywhere in the world, working in our time.”
It was purchased by an American art dealer at a Sotheby’s auction in July 2008 for $2MM. It was brought to the Metropolitan Museum of Art where it was cleaned of grime, overpainting and discoloration. It was examined by infrared reflectogram and x-rayed for the first time and, on the basis of stylistic hallmarks such as “emphatic cross-hatching,” such as on the face of the saint, it was confirmed to be a Michelangelo (Michelangelo, n.d.).
Leif Erickson. You may not know him, but he was the founder of America. He was a viking, one of the only ones to step foot on the North American continent. I know, you were taught that Christopher Columbus discovered America. Well you were taught wrong. People can argue this but there is actually a Leif Erikson day. October 9th.
So the famous person I chose is Harry Hawk. He is an actor and a comedian. He is mostly known for his acting career. Harry Hawk was born on April 28, 1837. He died at the age of 79 and on May 28, 1916. He is mainly know for Lincoln's assassination. So I will be telling you more about Harry Hawks life.
We talked about British artist David Bowie, who throughout history has held his position of being one of the most influential artist of the 1950s. Alice Cooper was also mentioned in the chapter, today he is known to be one of heavy metals early innovators for sound and stage appearance. Other artist like; Elton John, Pink Floyd
Neither LOVE nor The Kiss are made out of the same materials or colors. The LOVE sculpture was made out of weathering steal. The red and blue colors of this structure are incredibly hard to miss while walking down West 55th street or Avenue of the Americas in New York City. The Kiss statue however, was carved out of bronze and marble. Unlike LOVE, The Kiss sculpture’s hard, grayish white stone color has a very chilling feel, but yet somehow is still one of the most romantic sculptures that some have ever seen.
Since the 7th grade, I have been a huge fan of the famous French-inspired realist and expressionist, Edvard Munch. His work is so full of passion and pain as well as shock and sadness. By gazing into the gloriously deep world of emotion he created, art lovers both young and old are amazed and drawn in.
German studio glass artist Erwin Eisch has produced many intricate and curious modern sculptures during his long career, perhaps his most personal being “Eight Heads of Harvey Littleton”. Eisch met the American glass artist Harvey Littleton in 1962, and their close friendship led to a unification of European and American studio glass cultures. The sculpture is a portrait of his friend made up of eight individual cast glass heads with enamel detailing, each displaying a different mood or characteristic of Littleton.

The art piece I chose was a pottery that I found very interesting, not only the art itself but the story behind it. This was a red-figure archaic type of pottery; the name of the pottery is called a Terracotta hydria, which is also known as a water jar. This specific pot was made in Greece and South Italy, around 340-330BC. It was also found at Canosa before the year 1878. According to the MET museum “This pot was created by a group of BM F 308, the specific artist is unknown. However, the potter and art was produced in Greek, South Italy, and Apulia.”
Jean Michel Basquiat Jean Michel Basquiat was in many ways an art hero. Risen from a seemingly grim and dark beginning, tagging a form of street poetry under the pseudonym SAMO meaning same old shit, he came out of the shadows of the underground punk scene in New York City. A Neo-Expressionist by nature Basquiat painted with a rough and aggressive style that in my opinion embodies the definition of Neo-expressionism; when looking through Jean Michel Basquiat’s works there is a strong sense of primitivism, borrowing from an almost ancient tribal style. Basquiat seemed to have taken bits and pieces of styles from his favorite artists throughout history.
