Four writers in this book, Ken Blanchard, Thad Lacinak, Chuck Tompkins, and Jim Ballard provide a new way of communication to help develop a more harmonious community in the work place and family life. The actor in the book used to involve in a vicious cycle of relationships, where he could hardly have a positive communication with his wife, children, and his coworkers. Life crises occur, however, he found a whale’s behaving manners that could also apply to human’s life. Good changes could happen in interaction with families and coworkers by emphasizing and changing direction to positive factors. I kind of like his idea, because I recognized that things go in that way. Virtuous cycle forms when people are phrased and encouraged, because they focus on their right behaviors and will do it again and again.
In part one, Petersen paints a picture of how he became interested in the topic of communication. He also describes major problems that all communicators have in common. Since he grew up in an environment full of communication deficiencies, it drove him to clarify issues that were common to all communicators. One of the foundational concepts to Petersen’s book is the nature of communication. Petersen called communication the lubrication designed to keep functions of stomach, heart, and head working separately and together. The stomach is the source of feeling words, the heart is the source of perspective words, and the head is the source of our perception of facts. Without these three elements working together, communication becomes deficient. In my experience and understanding how this concept of thinking and feeling affects mine and others people relationships goes a long way towards reducing disagreement and disconnection.

I later decided to further my education in nursing and returned to college, I graduated with an AS degree in Registered nursing in 2002 from butte college. Right after I obtained my LVN license I went to worked at Oroville hospital, I worked for Oroville hospital for one year, then I decided to make a change and I went to work for California Forensic Medical Group which is a subcontracted company for the Butte County jail and I have been there ever since. I am married and have 4 boys and 2 dogs. In my spare time I love to ride my Harley.
Throughout my career, I have always championed communication among my co-workers despite the current position I have held. For this reason, I believe that communication is a vital part of an efficient and safe work environment. From my sixteen years of professional experience, I have seen miscommunication cause uncertainty, tension, and stress among my colleagues and general working atmosphere.
The effectiveness of one’s communication can significantly impact one’s ability to initiate, develop, and maintain personal, therapeutic, and interprofessional relationships. According to Casey and Wallis, “Without it, people cannot relate to those around them, make their needs and concerns known or make sense of what is happening to them,” (2011, p.35).
As in all aspects of personal and professional life, having effective communication is a key element of success. Effective communication can benefit your relationships with people. By conveying your message and integrating them as a member of the team and not just a subordinate leads to better production. By effectively communicating you can clearly define job responsibilities and expectations. The better you are able to communicate the less likely organizational turnover of personnel will occur. Supervisors and leaders in the professional workplace find that the most important factor in advancement and retain ability is effective communication. Senior level executives and human resources managers are stressing the importance of communication and providing more training for mid-level management. Emphasis is placed on communication being clear by being transmitted strongly.

For years, communication was the number one method for delivering information between two parties. Communication has always considered being either verbal or non-verbal, depending on the situation in which the information must be relayed. Communication consist of body language, verbal communication, letters, messages, sign language and anything else that rely on the usage of words to transfer or decode emotions and thoughts. As of recently, newer forms of communication have appeared and to a certain degree, render all older forms obsolete. Knowing how to communicate effectively can improve relationships one has at home, work and in social affairs.
