The Blocks of Lego
Introduction
Some people have wondered how Lego has been going strong for the past 80 years. At the beginning Lego bricks just seemed like another invention that would fail within 10 years, but some people are surprised to see it is worth over $5 billion today. Though Lego has a ton of sets, Lego has an amazing history that will keep on going and still people just neglect it.
Lego
The beginning. At the start of the company Lego made wood toys until they had an idea to use plastic instead. Before ever making bricks Ole Kirk Christiansen built wooden toys in Billund, Denmark for the children of Europe. He originated his company name, Lego, from two danish words which mean Play Well. Christiansen found plastic in the 40s and

It always seems like Lego should be running out of ideas, but they still have a million to go. Ole Christiansen can’t take credit for Lego bricks because he got the idea from an English businessman. Thought he can’t take all the credit, he can take some because the early bricks fell apart very easily and he fixed them so they can withstand getting hit, but can still be pulled apart easily (Ringen, 2015). The first LegoLand park was opened in 1968 in the town Lego started in; Billund, Denmark.the few roller coasters there are made for smaller children. Other LegoLands have been opened in Carlsbad, California, Windsor Safari Park in the UK, and Gunzburg, Germany. In 2005 Lego was struggling so badly that they sold 70% of LegoLand too Blackstone Group in New York. Some people think that Lego s are only made in Billund, Denmark. Actually Lego bricks are made all across the world and are sold in almost every country on Earth. Manchester, England has the Millyard Project in their Science Center which is the world’s largest permanent Lego project with more than 8 million Lego bricks and mini-figures (Scott, 2015). In the Idea House (A private museum), contains all the Lego sets ever created and is only available to retailers, staff, and VIPs (Ringen, 2015). Even though Legos were originally made for kids, adults also use them for teaching or just for passing some time. There is also a magazine that keeps people updated on the new things Lego has released to the world (Scott, 2015). Nowadays kids don’t see that digital games like Swagcraft- made by the air and physical games like Legos are almost the same thing. Now Lego has made something where you can build a house out of a special kit, take a picture of it, and watch it come to life on a tablet or
The history behind Lego’s is an interesting story of how they came to be. The Lego was a great idea. The Lego is a fun, imaginative, creative, and educational toy! The story behind these amazing toys is interesting! The Lego goes way back to the great depression too! These bricks are cool to play with!
The Lego Movie is the story of a complete and utter dystopia but everybody does not know it. When Lord Business pretends to give them taco Tuesday as a form of gift or propaganda, he actually intends to glue them all in one place using the kragle (krazy glue with letters wiped off the tube). When he tries to do this, he is stopped by a simple minded construction worker, who at an earlier date has accidentally found the piece of resistance and learnt how to be a master builder. Through this confrontation will Lord Business rule over the world or will Emmet be able to save his home from being destroyed.
The educational and artistic importance Lego has been long-lasting from generation to generation. In the beginning of 1930’s until now, LEGO bricks has been the driving force of self-imagination and expression for multiple people around the world. It has given a voice to kids, adults, innovation and technology. Generation after generation, LEGO advances forward, yet keeps its core values intact as a family company. Lego is an essential element of toy culture and unlimited boundaries of mufti media and education in the 21st century culture.
The target market is a group of customers with a similar need for a product. With toys, the target market is usually for children; they need toys to pass time when they are bored and to allow their imagination to unfold. Sometimes it is hard to market a toy because of the diverse characteristics that people have; boys and girls have different interests, and every culture see things differently. It would be very easy and effective to market a toy that would not be affected by any external factors. For that reason, I have decided to take interest in Etch-A-Sketch; Etch-A-Sketch is beneficial for anyone with a creative mind. Although this product is suitable for all ages, we will be focusing on children aged seven to ten, because at that age, children will be most creative and will be able to transfer the image in their
In his attempt to dethrone the corruption of conformity in his hometown, Emmet and his team will utilize their individual gifts and abilities to take down Lord Business and set free the realm of Bricksburg. This is similar to a concept that Paul refers to in his letter to the Corinthians concerning the body of Christ. In 1 Corinthians 12:18-20, “But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. If all were a single member, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, yet one body.” (ESV) Emmet and, by extension, the central theme of the Lego Movie desires to communicate that the things that make individuals different from each other is what makes them important and valuable to society. Creativity and imagination, in this way, becomes the opposite of conformity. The Lego Movie clearly and innovatively communicates that individuals are not just identical cogs in a monotonous machine; rather they are unique and equally important pieces in an intricate
of the sessions familiar to put their client at ease. As discussed previously, impairment in social functioning causes difficulty in communication which is necessary in typical counseling interventions. According to Woods, Mahdavi, and Ryan (2013), Lego therapy, a type of play therapy, is highly effective in improving social skills between pairs or small groups of children aged 6-11. Legos are an appealing toy to children with ASD as they are a methodical and predictable toy that are easy to control. Therapists are also faced with the difficulty of ASD children regulating emotions and behavior, which is often a typical reason parents seek therapy for their child in the first place (Samson, Hardan, Lee, Phillips, & Gross, 2015). It is encouraging
The Lego Movie is an animated film written and directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. This movie is about an ordinary Lego mini-figure named Emmet, who is mistaken for an extraordinary master builder and expected to save the world. Everything changes when Emmet finds the Piece of Resistance which makes him the chosen one called “The Special.” Lord Business who is also the President plans to use the Kragle to freeze the universe perfectly in place so that the individual actions and machinations of society no longer go against his plan. Emmet teams up with his teammates to take down Lord Business plan and to save the world. At the end of the movie, Emmet convinces Lord Business that he does not have to be the bad guy and he could also
Most people can remember playing with Legos at some point in their lives. From 1958-2013, 650 billion Lego bricks were manufactured and sold in 130 countries, making Legos one of the most popular childhood toys. In more recent years, with digital technology on the rise, Lego’s have a become popular subject in video games and movies. The Lego Movie was the first movie centered around Legos to use a fully CGI animation style. While The Lego Movie may at first appear to be an average children's movie, it's storyline goes much deeper than that most movies marketed primarily to families, allowing it to quickly become one of the most sold movies of 2014. Through the use of creative cinematography which helps reinforce the storyline, as well as an ingenious adaptation of an Orwellian society, based upon capitalist values and extreme conformity, The Lego Movie pushes a pro-libertarian, anti-capitalist message, hidden behind the innocent facade of children’s movie.
Toy World, Inc is a manufacturer of plastic toys for children, founded in 1973 by David Dunton. In the past, the company's production schedules had always been highly seasonal, reflecting the seasonality of sales. Jack McClintock, president and part owner of this company, is considering a proposal to adopt level monthly production for the coming year.
Social interactions are another area of focus of LEGO therapy (2004). Social interaction comes naturally to those who do not have social communication deficits. Observing and imitating at an early age enables one to gain the social skills required in basic everyday interaction, as well as allowing one to gain confidence when socialising (Densmore et al., 2007). However, children with autism may lack in social interactions. Autistic children may require additional assistance in social interactions as they have difficulty in things such as: forming peer relationships, group play, maintaining eye contact, sharing, use of body language, use of facial expressions, participating in imaginative role play and much more; these skills are the fundamental base of effective social interactions (Gammeltoft and Nordenhof, 2007). Lack of social skills and communication skills overlap one another, having a “knock on” or “dominos” effect thus it is important that children with autism are supported in the development of these areas.
The rattling commencement of plastic was appointed by Aleksander Parkes He presented a material called Parkesine ,which was both named after him and an non- synthetic material derived from cellulose ,which when heated could be molded and wrought, and after cooling the substance sustain the shape it was primitively wrought into. As time advanced plastic had become more in demand and is now one of the most common materials of our time. In terms of quantity us humans are using twenty times more plastic today than fifty years ago.
The LEGO Group organization is famous due to its flagship product – colourful plastic bricks that can be interlocked to form a variety of figures, and then disconnected again. These binding bricks originated in a wooden form when the company was first established in Billund, Denmark by Kirk Kristiansen in 1932 (The LEGO Group, 2012), and today’s well known plastic version was introduced in 1958 (Rosenberg). The company’s head office is located in Billund to this day, and The LEGO Group remains privately owned by Kristiansen’s family (The LEGO Group, 2012). They currently sell toys and teaching materials in over 130 countries worldwide.
Toy Story is a series that has just been put to an end after its third installation, Toy Story 3. These feature length films were successfully launched to public viewing by Walt Disney Pictures and were produced by Pixar Animation Studios. What can you expect when two gigantic firms work together? It is truly a blast. The success of the Toy Story is a huge testimony that can attest this claim.
Legos are the multi-colored blocks we used as children to build creations that were only limited by our imaginations. I remember adding to my multi-colored plastic sculptor, each block putting me one step closer to the final product. The process would always entail first setting up a strong foundation, and then creating structural support, while always having a plan in the back of my mind. The outcome of which, would tower above me; to think it all began with a single block. In many ways people are similar to Legos. We are the combination of our experiences, each adding to our personas, and shaping how we view the world. Also like Legos, to have a stable and functioning final product it must have a foundation, support and a plan. I was able to establish my foundation in high school.
The sheer vastness of possibilities that Legos present is both intimidating and exhilarating. The colorful blocks lay strewn about in no particular pattern and no particular order. From this chaos virtually anything can be created. As a child I gradually learned not to be intimidated by the endless possibilities but to embrace them, to relish the opportunity to create something from nothing. A preschool teacher recommended holding me back one year. Because I preferred the challenge of Legos to running about with the other children on the playground, she believed that I was socially and psychologically unprepared for school. Little did she realize that the creativity these blocks taught me became a cornerstone for the rest of my life. The seemingly insurmountable challenges gave me confidence and taught me to value cooperation. Watching my Lego edifices grow slowly but surely skyward taught me patience. Watching them fall again taught me the tenacity to continue onwards.
