1. How did you learn of The Cooper Union?
The first time I heard about The Cooper Union, I was a high school freshman in my Art Appreciation class. My teacher was discussing Cooper Union's reputation as an art school and showed us a painting one of her students who was accepted to this university. At first I wanted to attend Cooper Union as an art student but as the years passed by, I realized I would be happier if I could combine my creativity with science and math to make contributions to society through engineering.
2. What aspects about The Cooper Union attract you?
From a young age, I have realized that choices make us who we are. Our choices show our true characters far beyond our own attempts. But these decisions are not always so simple. One very appealing aspect of Cooper Union is that I can choose to have it all. I love that I can choose to major in Engineering but also take liberal arts classes as part of the core curriculum in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. This resonates with my interests because I love math and science but I also have interests in visual art and dance- now I can have both.
Furthermore, I do not have to choose between being independent and spending time with my family. Cooper Union is in the perfect location because I can pursue my own interests without sacrificing time with my siblings and parents. On the same note, I no longer have to pick between the big city or a comfortable campus. Cooper Union has amazing architecture and a unique student atmosphere that provides a secluded and comfortable feeling, but as soon as you walk out of the doors, you are in the middle of a great, bustling city.
I also crave to attend the Cooper Union because I have heard many judgments. There can...

...hanical engineering because I find it the most appealing. I participate in an architecture, construction, and engineering program at school called the ACE Mentor program and I have spoken to several mechanical engineers and gained insightful exposure. In this program, I also worked together with other students, teachers, and mentors to design and create a realistic model of a hotel which we then formally presented at a conference. This year we are building a research facility and interactive museum, which helps me decide which facet of engineering I want to explore. Although, I remain open minded, I prefer mechanical engineering because the work can help make advancements in robotics, medicine, and computers. No engineer works alone and I believe that if I pursue my interests in this field, I will have the opportunity to make contributions to a vast array of fields.
I could make a living doing what I love by either becoming a doctor or engineer. I love helping people and I could achieve that by becoming a doctor. If I was a doctor I could help create medicine to aide injured or sick people by using bioengineering. I could also do what I love by becoming an engineer though. I love being able to figure out which pieces go together, but I also
I was recently accepted into the Exploratory Studies college at NC State, and am beyond excited to hopefully continue my academic career at NC State University. Although I am currently undecided on my major, I've shown the most interest in math and science related subjects, and hope to pursue similar avenues of study at State through the Exploratory Studies program. I am interested in exploring different career paths that I may have not yet considered, and believe that this program will provide me with the resources necessary to truly discover what I want to do for the rest of my life. Although I currently do not have any specific career objectives, I am confident that I will leave NC State prepared to build a successful career, regardless of my eventual major. I am excited at how much NC State and the Exploratory Studies college has to offer, and hope to eventually graduate with the experience and knowledge to begin a professional career.
My preferred major is mechanical engineering. Mechanical engineering is the broadest engineering field, involving the design of mechanical systems. These systems are used in a multitude of different fields such as manufacturing, aeronautics, nanotechnology, nuclear power production, heating and cooling. A primary focus is on thermodynamics, structural analysis, materials science, and kinematics.
UNC Asheville’s vision of a diverse and inclusive community excites me. One of my main expectations of college is the opportunity to reach beyond my comfort zone, make new connections and broaden my view of the world. I can’t wait to join a college community emphasizing tolerance, respect for others and diversity in addition to providing a quality education. In high school, I was involved in a broad range of extra-curricular activities not to build a resume but to get the most of out every day. I am bringing that same passion to college. My interests and hobbies include the arts and politics. I expect to continue those interests and activities in college, performing on stage and participating in student government organizations. In
The social experience could be the best time of my life or maybe not the best time of my life. The social experience of college varies with what kind of person I am. I do not think the college experience is for me. I am all about work; however, I also like to play. Although I like to play, I do not like to play as much as college students do. College offers a chance for friendships that could last for a lifetime, but that is not what I am looking for. “This offers a better chance to social involvement and the development of strong friendship bonds” (“What Are the Benefits of College Vs. Technical School?”). Also, college offers me the chance to live on campus which is not for me. I think dorm rooms are too small and if I was to live the sorority life it would distract me from my school life. “Attending college can also provide the opportunity to enjoy a rich social life, since four-year colleges usually require you to live on campus for at least the first two years. Living in a dormitory with other students can help you make lifelong friends and business contacts once you have started your career” ("Technical School Vs. Traditional College."). The advantages of these important learning styles are what uphold the University of North Carolina at Charlotte as a school with deep values and comforting surroundings that houses students who value not only an exceptional education, but also an unforgettable college experience.
I chose to pursue on being a computer hardware engineer because I like taking apart and building computers and I would like to be able to construct some components that would go into a computer. I am kind of fascinated on how much there is to know about computers to even buy parts yourself and build it. Later on, I will start to study on what computer hardware engineers really do on their jobs. I know they usually work in groups because the task computer hardware engineers have will usually be really hard to do alone. When I am in college, I will most likely get an internship to gain practical experience.
As a young woman growing up in an urbanized setting and attending public schools all of my life, when the time came to start planning and searching for colleges, I searched for schools that I felt fit my persona, that I would be comfortable attending for some of the most integral years of my life. My search included schools such as Temple University, and Pennsylvania State University, higher education institutions that allowed me to challenge myself, but at the same time would put me in a setting where I would be with others just like myself, fitting into the standard American university fashion.
...y you have enthusiasm for and do well in,” is advice often given by employers. Lynn Cheney, former Chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities, agrees: “Students who follow their hearts in choosing majors will most likely end up laboring at what they love. They’re the ones who will put in the long hours and intense effort that achievement requires. And they’re the ones who will find the sense of purpose that underlies most human happiness.”
Engineering has been a key interest of mine since childhood. While still in grade school I enjoyed listening to my father, an electrical engineer, teach me about advances in technology, and was always eager to hear more. I was introduced to my first computer at the age of five, and have loved interacting with them ever since. My decision to study engineering as a career was no surprise to those who knew me.
Electrical engineering is the major that I am pursuing during my college career. I decided to pursue this major because it is a career, which requires knowledge in other subjects, it is a career, which changes often, and everyday it provides a person with new problems to solve.
...ersonally, professionally, and spiritually. Many of the instructor’s non-judgmental attitude, patience, caring, educational, and experience has helped me to achieve and improve overall at GCU. The knowledge that I study from GCU will allow me to continue my higher education, which will prepare me for the future, and for making a difference in someone life.
Everyone wants to be something from a doctor to a stylist, I want to be a mechanical engineer. This is something I have always wanted to do in my life, the opportunities that exist in this field can lead to anything. Mechanical engineers are able to do many tasks in the job environment from designing, to developing, and also building. In addition, as new companies are starting up they will need mechanical engineers to help them develop their product. All of the engineering fields have great pay, that is able to support my family and also my parents. In the work environment of a mechanical engineer, they usually are around an office and sometimes where their product is being used at. To be able to apply for a mechanical engineering job you
My biggest reason for being a mechanical engineer is not because of the pay or the benefits, but because it is what I want to do. I feel like I can be happy going to work everyday as a mechanical engineer. I have always wanted to wake up everyday and be a happy person. Mechanical engineering will provide me with a challenge and a spark of joy at the same time. Mechanical engineering is my dream career. One day I will accomplish my goals. Through hard work and dedication I will accomplish the goals I have set out to achieve in life.
... do. I am the type of person that becomes bored very quickly with the same thing day in and day out, so this fast paced, always-changing work atmosphere is perfect for my personality. As a civil engineer I will choose to work outside with a hands-on approach to the projects I take on. This will be a very rewarding career for me, since I will get to see a specific design all the way through to the finished project, and I will get to observe how this finished project helps the public. I also like the fact that my work would benefit more people in one day than almost any other profession. Since I am good at solving problems and designing and constructing things, I should have no problems as a civil engineer. Because civil engineering has all the qualities I am looking for in a job, I feel that it is the perfect career for me.
