Leading With Vision
All companies must have a vision, without one, it is difficult to create goals. As a leader in any company, it is important that we know the mission, vision and goals of the company in order to model this for our teams. Good oragnizations convey a strong vision of where they will be in the future. (MODYUKE) Creating appropriate goals to drive the vision is vital for the success of any company. Goal setting is an improtant role in sharing the vision and goals with the team. Gaining their buy in and commitment will ultimately help create effective teams. As leaders, it is also important that we follow up with our teams and give coaching and training when needed. Leaders must also remember that, "leadership is influencing others to truley want to achieve a goal." (Mod 4) All of this together will create well informed teams working toward the same goals for the company.
The Importance of vision and goal setting as a leader
According to The U.S. Army Handbook, there are four charactoristics for goal setting. The first two are goal difficulty and specificity. It's important that the goal is attainable and appropriately difficult. Too little or too much can cause motivation to decrease as well as productivity. In our prior modules, we learned about speicific recognition being more beneficial than general, the same applies when defining goals. Clearly defined goals will lead to better results, because the team member knows the expectations, and knows how to achieve them.
The third and forth characteristics for goal setting, according to the U.S. Army Handbook, are feedback and participation in goal setting. A good leader provides feedback that is honest and timely. For the most part, ...

...ccessful companies sell the vision of the company with positive energy and a positive attitude that is contagious. (MOD) In addition, highly trained team members who take part in their goal setting process are likely to achieve their goals as well as perform well in their positions. Including leaders that are positive and passionate about their goals will further create a positive environment for meeting the goals set byu the company.
