I had the marvelous opportunity to speak with Cathy Gentry, Director of Business Operations for Sloan Museum and Longway Planetarium. She has shown strong leadership in the 2 years I have known her. Cathy provided me with her experience in leadership through her time at Sloan and Longway as well as her own personal skills.
Cathy has incredible managing experience in all operations of a business. She studied communications with emphasis on event planning at Michigan State University. Cathy is also the President of The Junior League of Flint. She has been involved with The Flint Cultural Center for 20 years, holding various positions such as Marketing Intern, Finance Administrative & Marketing Assistant. Cathy …show more content…

The conversation was very insightful and provided me with what I believe to be a good framework for a successful business leader. Cathy gleams with energy and puts every ounce of energy into everything she does. She enjoys working with a variety of people and motivating the group in many different ways. Cathy shared a lot of information about how she provides leadership within her organization, but also her community. She has always had a high level of involvement within the community and shared this is what makes her tick. Having your hand in many buckets assists your personal and professional growth as well, having others to relate to from diverse backgrounds. She shared it is advantageous to have heads to bounce ideas off, as well as a way to share knowledge. In my interview with Cathy Gentry, I learned a great deal of information. She has a kind personality but able to offer sincere advice to her employees and everyone she meets. She carries herself with an approach that adapts to each individual within her organization. If I were to interview Cathy’s colleagues, I feel as though I would be given a warm response that shares the strong leadership sense I now have of her. The traits Cathy holds are many of which I hope to emulate in my further career
