In my opinion, I believe both programs are beneficial. However, there are several factors to consider when placing students' in each program: age, personality, and gender. When Sanya first arrives, we should assess her. Her father has described her love for books, so even just reading to her the first few times to see where she is at with her English comprehension. In addition, Sanya's father has described her as a shy seven years old, but is outgoing when she is familiar with her new surroundings. I believe, with her personality, she will flourish in a classroom setting. But, we should pull her from time to time to see how well she is adjusting to her new environment. People in this stage become angry and confused, and do not understanding their new environment. We need to give him some time until he becomes familiar with his surroundings. He also may be going through the "silent period", commonly known with newly arrived ESL students'. This stage may last a few days to a year. Hussein age is a major factor in trying to place him in a specific program. I think, a pull-out program will help him tremendously, but he may become more withdrawn as it could be embarrassing for him getting pulled from his class. However, I still think we should try for the first few times pulling him and see how he reacts. Maybe, he will open up once he becomes comfortable with an EA, but any information given to EA's must remain confidential. Another idea is to bring older ESL peers into the pull-out program and see if he will connect with them, for this may make him feel like he belongs. His father also mentioned his love for sports, EA's can bring in sports books, magazines, or even sports card. Talking to him about his sport interest may engage him and remember what he loves. EA's also have to be aware of pulling students' out of the classroom setting will make them fall behind in their classroom
