Another example of how this community interacts and communicates, on gatherings and social events, is by posting flyers to social events on and off campus on the facebook page. Around campus there are groups like Urban Arts Theatre, Multicultural Students Association, and Latin American Student Organization. These groups have worked hard at trying to bring the Class of 2020 and other classes out of their shells by putting on events around campus. All of these groups have spent time and dedication to promote a special weekend around campus starting Thursday April 27th and ending Sunday April 30th. This event is known as Takeover Weekend and it includes the events like Kompa Night, the annual fashion show, a pool party, Foam & Glow event, a basketball tournament and a cookout. These events have been broadcasted all through the Facebook Class of 2020 page, in order to have all students come out and enjoy a weekend of fun as the community they are. …show more content…
The Fashion Show consists of a variety of different scenes put on by the Multicultural Student Association every year. The Pool Party is held at the O’Keefe pool and has students enter into a best swimsuit contest. Foam and Glow is put on by all three groups LASO, MSA, and UAT. It is an event where students are given glow in the dark accessories and are provided with music. The event literally drops foam onto students the whole night. The basketball tournament is the second to last event and is hosted at the O’Keefe Gassett Fitness Center. Lastly, TakeOver Weekend ends with a cookout for all students at Marsh Quad. The flyers being put around campus were made by a student know as D'shawn whose social page is known as
Over the past few years, Crescent School has made several changes due to stakeholder dissatisfaction. Some of these changes include high school advisory, activities/sports offered, and the graduation ceremony length. The administrative team heard from student and other stakeholders about concerns of the number of activities and sports offered. The team worked together to develop new clubs that students have requested. The time of day the club met was also altered to accommodate additional students participating in the club. Dr. Mork and the administrative team listen to suggestions as they come from stakeholders and do all that is available to implement the change, if deemed possible.
There have been many historical moments with the University of Dayton Flyers Men’s Basketball team, but Mark Weaver recalls of the one that meant most to him. It took place on March 24, 1967, in Louisville’s Freedom Hall for the Final Four of the NCAA (National College Athletic Association) tournament against the highly favored North Carolina Tar Heels (Collett 228). This was the third straight NCAA tournament appearance for the Flyers, but their first ever Final Four (Collett 228). It turned out that the Flyers smashed North Carolina, seventy-six to sixty-two. Don May hit a record thirteen straight field goals and scored thirty-four points (Collett 228). Mark Weaver, a lifetime fan said, “I remember that game like it was yesterday, it almost brings tears to my eyes. I have never seen UD party like we did the night of that game. I have been following Dayton basketball since the mid-1960s and I have yet to witness the team getting a greater win than the one over the Tar Heels.”
This tournament, apart from entertaining students and other fans, highlights what stuff different colleges are made of. This comes at a critical time when high school seniors are considering what colleges to attend once they graduate. Thus, it is not surprising that this package of sporting events brings glad tidings to the people as it helps usher-in the beautiful spring season. However, a critical evaluation of the different teams and schools reveal the series of events -both good and not so good- that occur as they prepare for this all-important tournament.
The first group will be divided into two subgroups: the general student body and student athletes. Student athletes that are out of season generally play indoors to stay competitive and active during their off seasons. We would like to target them, because they are naturally drawn to competition and may provide a fan base due to the player’s standing with the fans. We would like to aim at the general student body as providing opportunities to relax, de-stress, and enjoy entertainment on campus. 2.
As a commuter to McDaniel College, I don’t spend much time on campus outside of classes. Therefore, the relevance of after school activities doesn’t apply to me as much. Keeping current with events happening on campus grounds, is often a daunting task. However in the spirit of class participation, I decided to create awareness that fall break is upon us.
In higher class part of Chicago the University of Urbana- Champaign holds two very large graduation ceremonies in the spring. So large the crowd cannot fit in the basketball arena that holds sixteen thousand people. Marsh taught some of the students that attended the University of Urbana- Champaign however he was not at the graduation that may. Instead he was at another graduation in a shabby room in
Between study group, debate, and chess tournaments there wasn’t much of a social scene around Winchester University in Omaha, Nebraska. The school year at this college was year round, but the students were given a 30 day summer vacation in July. The majority of the students went back home to visit their families during this time. But as juniors at the University Charles, Fredrick, and Stanley, all childhood buddies, decided it was time for a change and that they needed a little more spice in their life. Realizing that they were almost twenty-one and had never breached their comfort zone, they knew a road trip was in store.
The smell of carnival foods, music blasting through the tall speakers, and the crowd going wild is the first thing one hears as one enters the stadium. Shortly, one hears the sounds of clapping, stomping, and yelling as the Greek organizations compete for the grand prize, title of recognition, and bragging rights. People are dancing and supporting their favorite groups as they perform the routines the groups have been practicing for days. The final group performs and walks off stage drained with all the energy they put into the performance. Everyone crosses their fingers hoping their Greek organization won. Different colors, like salmon pink and apple green, surrounds the stadium representing the different groups. The MC (Mic Controller) comes out and tantalized everyone with the final results. Once the results were called out, screams and bantering erupts from the crowd as the crowd is signaled to leave. Everyone leaves and hangs out with friends and their favorite Greek organization. As one sits in the stand, one thinks why they are entertained by such activities. Many overlook the important purposes of joining a sorority. History can only tell why sororities were created and where they originated.

The forum enraveled with an introduction given by Mayor Tom Weisner as he welcomed the incoming crowd of students. As things settled down, he passed the mic to Dr. Brandon Kooi, associate professor of criminal justice at Aurora University, set the stage with a general overview of national state affairs and APD Chief Kristen Ziman expounded on community and relationships with an analysis of the

It was a cold cloudy Friday morning. The day of the most nerve racking championship game had finally arrived for the two rivalry basketball teams, the Kress Lady Roos and the Hart Lady Horns. Weeks and weeks of hard, aggressive, closely won ball games one after another. Only a little bit of time after that to get ready for the most important game ever; this is the game everyone has been preparing for. A ton of exhausting conditioning and an enormous amount of shooting lead up to this moment. Every girl on the Lady Roos basketball team feels excited, pumped, and ready for the game later tonight. Constantly thinking and feeling overly enthusiastic of what the outcome of the game would be like. We all had predictions of what we wanted the game to be like but it was up to whichever team wanted it the most. With all the confidence and motivation that we had that morning we just wanted school to be over with already. It did not end quickly though. School was such a drag. We all could not wait for that three-thirty bell to ring so we could hop onto that big, yellow, warm bus. Finally, the loud, annoying bell goes off. It was now, “Game Time”! Only hours away until we would play the game of our lives. As we approached the humongous school our opponents were already there. We did not want to even look at them when we walked in. We did not want to be discouraged by what kind of players they were. As the minutes passed by it was time to get ready. We could already hear our loud and passionate fans approaching the gym. We love our dedicated and supportive Kress community. As the warm-up started we all became very anxious and jittery but knew we had to shake it off and stay focused. As we had our last talk with the coach and said our glorious ...

Class of 2012, as we sit here this evening, I would like you to take a look at the classmates sitting around you. Many students have given countless hours of time, energy, and passion to worthy cuases that they have been a part of throughout high school. However, those aren't the only students deserving of recognition this evening. We have students here tonight, who have taken a stand for what they believe in, not even hesitating to compromise their reputations.
