Kinesiology Personal Statement

I’ve loved the weather ever since I was a little kid. It all started when my hometown Novi, MI got a big snow storm when I was seven years old. At the time we did not have cable, but we did have the local news stations. I remember the night before the storm my sister, dad, and I were all glued to channel 7. It was really exciting and having them there watching the T.V. with me increased the anticipation for snowfall which we got. I was amazed by the fact that the night before the storm around midnight we had not a trace of a flurry on the ground nor in the sky, and when we woke there was a foot of snow on the ground. I was about four or so feet at the time so the snow was literally a quarter of my height. The first action I did when I woke …show more content…

I grew up in a house full of athletes and as my life progressed through high school I became more and more interested in the science behind body movement and how to better myself as an athlete. What further my interest in kinesiology was when my high school got a new course they offered my junior year called IB Sports and Health Sciences. In that class we learned basic information if we did chose to go in a kinesiology or athletic pathway. It was a three semester class so I learned quite a bit about the body and how it functions. As I said before kinesiology has always been an interest for me but not a priority. Thus far, I am enjoying everything that revolves meteorology and around it. I started a bit slow in Dr. Kluver’s MET 260 class, but I refocused and figured out how to overcome what I was struggling with by actually studying for the second exam, which I saw a significant result in exam two. Since I am doing well and enjoying what I do with meteorology, I plan to stick with the major instead of going into kinesiology or something else.
As a minor, I plan to pursue in Mathematics. First off, it comes with the meteorology major as a minor. Second off, I am going to have very little room to have a different minor that I enjoy. It will be very helpful to have to primarily focus on just mathematics as a minor throughout the meteorology program. It will allow me to study …show more content…

They may be something in history, athletics, or communications. As of right now I am not clear on the path of electives I will be taking. I first want to meet all of my requirements that the University and meteorology requests. A few of these courses on the map are chemistry, meteorology, and geography. These classes I see are strengths for me because they interest me. Since they interest me and I have a drive to reach a goal when I’m interested in certain subjects, I am going to be determined and focused to reach my potential. My strengths are in these classes and are in the commitment I am willing to endure. From my previous experience in high school, I was a captain for both the cross country and track and field teams. Through my experience of being a captain, I learned you don’t necessarily need to have a title to show leadership, commitment, or determination for success. I learned success begins by setting a goal and working on how to refine and that goal throughout time. In my current situation, my goal is to major in meteorology, with my determination and commitment, I will. Everybody has weaknesses as well, for me, my weakness is that I lack the ability to fully understand concepts at first glance. I unfortunately don’t have photographic memory. When I study I am a visual learner, so you will see I literally copy down the notes that I take
