The Stolen Generation was a tragic time when Australian aboriginal people were removed from their families and homes by racist colonialists of the Australian government, causing long-lasting, generational trauma. The aboriginals were demanded to acclimatize to a non-indigenous society, depriving them of native culture by removing them from their families, forcing European customs and religion onto them, and changing their names, all in the hope of them gradually blending into white Australian society. At 1:22:53, a long shot silhouette of Molly and Daisy being hugged by their family is displayed in front of the vibrant night sky. The hugs not only represent the end of their journey, but also the fact that the girls successfully stayed true to their roots and did not let the oppressive powers take their culture away. The calm yet happy music is combined with cries of happiness from the family, evoking a sense of pride in their dedication and joy in their results. Despite not having many things to see, the mise-en-scene depicts a shot the viewer can feel. The shades of blue in the sky replace their journey's earthy, dry tone with more restful and calming colors, symbolizing peace at last for the family. Though presented at different times and circumstances in the film, the two silhouettes embody a roaring sense of togetherness. They both uniquely illustrate the strong familial bonds that no matter what, family always sticks together. The two silhouettes are connected, representing different points in their journey back home. The comparison presents a timeline in which the girls stick together through separation, relocation, journeying, and
On the morning of February 13 2008, Australia’s Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd made an apology to Australia’s indigenous peoples in the House of Representatives, Parliament House. Prime Minister Kevin Rudd’s public apology to the indigenous people of Australia is a key event in Australia’s history. It apologised for the past mistreatment of Aboriginals. It apologised for the Stolen Generations and their families. It apologised for ‘the laws and policies of successive governments that inflicted grief, suffering and loss on these, our fellow Australians.’ However, the scars still remain. Aside from the apology that was given, nothing else was done to help the Aboriginals, not
The removal of children from Aboriginal parents was not a new idea, it had been happening for almost a decade before becoming the Stolen Generation. The removal policy was stepped up with the introduction of the assimilation policy. The whites believed that they were the dominant culture and their way of life and culture was the only way. The Bringing Them Home Report (the Stolen Generation), is a very important topic which allowed a sense of freedom for Indigenous Australian people. The changes in the law, made all Indigenous Aboriginal people apart of the census. The ‘Bringing Them Home Report’ is the title given to the inquiry of stolen generations of the Indigenous Aboriginal people of Australia.
The Indigenous stolen generation in Australia have been adequately recognized and compensated. Do you agree? “We apologise especially for the removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families, their communities and their country.” (Rudd, 2008). There has been a general contentment about the stolen generations after the government publically apologized. However, besides words, no solid compensation has been given to affected children and their families. Therefore, the purpose

The Stolen Generation is a major racial issue in Australian History, and has had a large effect on the reconciliation between white and Indigenous Australians. Some people, both Indigenous and white Australians, believe that reconciliation cannot occur between the two races, for a number of different reasons. One of the major reasons for this is the Stolen Generation, where many Indigenous Australians have had to suffer from cases such as being separated from their families, abuse, neglect, and ongoing
The Australia Stolen generation People of the stolen generation have been negatively affected by Australian polices.
