Keeping the Bad off The Streets: Need for Sidewalks
Other than people that have a car, walking is the essential transportation for many people in the small town of Courtland, Alabama. The only thing about it is that pedestrians do not have a safe area to walk on. If people walk on the road then they are most likely to get hit by a car. Sidewalks would benefit Courtland in many ways. This includes less accidents, more workers, and a healthy community.
Although most sidewalks in the United States are made of concrete, wood, brick and stone are ways to construct a sidewalk. The different materials of the sidewalk depends on the use of the sidewalk. Concrete is preferable because it is durable. It rarely rots and can withstand any storm. Also, concrete is easy to maintain which means it does not need much repair. The sidewalks could enhance the looks of the town with the decorative sidewalks. On a serious note, cars are less likely to run on a sidewalk with a high shoulder pavement. Courtland does not provide buses, so the only way would be to walk. The thing about it is that the police will not allow pedestrians on roads when through traffic. Sidewalks help to provide equal access for the handicap, children, and adults without cars to travel to other places. Sidewalks can improve the town economically greatly. Even if someone has a car, many prefer to save gas for to simply take a trip down the road or take their dog on a walk. Sidewalks will improve local traffic towards the small businesses in the town. responsible citizen of Mount Vernon, of some of the important laws that we live by. Combining my copious amounts of free time with my love of the mundane, I dug through our city's ordinance code as well as state law to unearth some rules we all need to know about. First off, let it be known that many of these crimes come with penalties. State laws can carry heavy prison time while city ordinances come with fines up to $500. Bearing this serious business in mind, let us begin. We all know not to start
covers the sidewalk and streets or graffiti covers a wall in an alley it is not a big deal as long as it is cleaned up and attended to promptly by the neighborhood. The problems begin when the broken windows, litter and or graffiti is left alone and more follows it. Once a neighborhood becomes neglected, only more neglect follows it. When people in a neighborhood fail to care about the neighborhood it shows. The people who like to engage in bad things begin to feel safe in indulging in bad practices
Rough Draft This year Milinda just started high school. She is at a bad start, she has no friends and no one to talk to. At a party before school started, Milinda and her ex-best friend got drunk, Milinda went outside and walk to a tree. Then along came a person named Andy Evens. He walked up to her and told her that she was pretty and how no one was with her. Then he made his move, he put Milinda on the ground and started kissing her. Milinda tried to stop him but she couldn’t make a sound
became apparent that eventually people were going to need all the real estate they could get on the island of Manhattan. In 1807, frustrated by years of uncontrolled development and a decade of public health epidemics attributed to lower Manhattan’s cramped and irregular streets, New York City’s Common Council (the predecessor to today’s City Council) petitioned the State Legislature to develop a street plan for Manhattan above Houston Street, at that time a rural area of streams and hills populated
wanted just that. She asked her parents for a party, and like most teenagers she wanted alcohol to be involved. In order to keep her house and the people inside it safe, she had to make a few precautions before the party. These rules ranged from keeping the music volume moderate, closing the windows, and warning the neighbors beforehand. The party was under control and everyone was being courteous and controlled. Around midnight, two new guests walked around back through the sliding door and crashed
realized that escape was hopeless. Knowing that they were going to burn to death, some turned to the window and jumped. None of the girls that jumped survived the fall. Within twenty minutes of the fire breaking out, there were bodies lying on the street and people surrounding the building. The total number of victims of the fire was 146. Nineteen bodies were recovered from the elevator shaft, and fifty-four workers died by jumping out of windows. 12 The two founders, Harris and Blanck, made it out
could get top 20 for sixth grade racing with over six hundred kids. The bus started slowing and I noticed we were at a street light. I expected to just see a normal intersection, but there were at least ten or twelve buses at every turn trying to get into the school that the meet was in. It was then that it hit me, this race was going to be far from easy. We stopped at the sidewalk of a normal looking middle school and unloaded the team's luggage, snacks of all kinds with tents and blankets to keep
and Miss Emily still lived in that same house "set on what had once been [the] most select street," "lifting its stubborn and coquettish decay above the cotton wagons and the gasoline pumps." Miss Emily had once belonged to the most select class, and still stubbornly maintained the image, even though she and her entire town knew the truth to be otherwise. She remained a stubborn product of her times, keeping a manservant who most likely had been with her since he had been a slave, and had stayed out
someone made me a cup?” Kat set two cups on the table and poured the steaming coffee. “I wanted to surprise you.” They visited for several minutes before Rachel’s face turn serious. “I have a problem. Jake’s always good about picking up whatever I need in town, but he can’t get this,” she said, heat stealing her face before she looked away. Kat cringed as several miserable explanations, beginning with an illness, came to mind. She twisted the napkin in her lap and swallowed before asking, “What would
life, he spoke against guns. Didn’t he come to my place one mid-morning while I was at neighbors? My dad chased Toby out of my apartment and down the sidewalk with his new 22. Toby was trying to get his pants on as he went. Instead of my family taking the kids when I needed all the help I could get. They waited until couldn’t take anymore and ran off with Toby Dunn. A script of Librium’s and one of the best melon liqueur mixers I'd ever had in my life! My family used to take my kids because they didn’t
I sat at the table reading the paper at the table as Póilín and Sonas ate their breakfasts. Jack had wanted to make them sleep in the garage, but I had insisted on them sleeping inside with us. Jack had laid the dog beds in the living room, but Sonas had ended up in bed with me. She slept curled into my side with her small head using my arm as a pillow. As I munched on a bowl of cereal I looked through the ads for a part time job around here. There wasn't much beside a waitress at a diner in La Push
checks her surroundings and reminds herself that she is safe. She is at home. Her parents are in the other room. Her other sibling is sleeping in a different, nearby room. She gets up and pulls her white blanket that was given by her ex-boyfriend off her. She puts on her Pikachu slippers, turns on the light, and heads out the hallway to the kitchen in a careful manner in order to not wake her family members. She grabs a cup from the cupboards, opens the fridge, and pours herself orange juice. She
