Kanban is an information system that is used to control the release of materials in operation (Monden, 1998). In this way, organizations know when to acquire more materials from suppliers (Slack et al., 2007, p. 480). This also provides visual signal that helps organizations to have products according to customers’ needs (Melton, 2005). A push system operates by attempting to determine when individual work centers must complete processing of work orders in order to meet the commitments of the MPS. MRP is considered to be the classical example of a push system. A pull system, on the other hand, looks at the manufacturing process from the other end, i.e. from the perspective of the finished item. The production controller works on the basis that his/her orders represent firm customer requirements. The time horizon is understandably short. The orders are broken down from the highest level and the controller checks whether sufficient component parts are available to produce the finished product. If the components are available, the product is produced. However, if they are not, compon...
Lego managers used the same approach they used for their blocks. They created a modularized and standardized architecture for their information systems, making it possible to expand at a faster rate and add capacity and functionality as it was needed (Pearlson, Saunders). They implemented...
The tool essentially shows the chain of activities required to develop and deliver the products. The effectiveness of the organization vastly improves when all the key activities such as customer, vendor, suppliers and partner within the value chain working smoothly. The value chain used to reduce operational and production cost using low-cost producer strategy. If two service or products are delivery by two separate divisions for two different markets, there are functionality and process that can be integrated to save cost.
According to Sehgal, “The push/pull decisions afford a balance between the responsiveness (agility) and cost (lean) (2009)”. Pull systems must be responsive to be effective; push systems are generally more cost effective. Retailers have response immediately to consumer demands but wholesalers like Valley Steel can hold inventories and generate economies of scale to reduce cost.
It is evident that the information system used by Kahuna Cleaning Supply is rather slow and inefficient. The director of sales reports that the business lost a big order recently to the competitor who was able to provide the potential client with timely estimates online. In addition, the system is marred with a lot of errors while making orders and requisitions. The customers are not connected with an online interface and this makes it difficult for the company to compete favorably on the information front. The manual system is therefore obsolete, slow and unprofitable to the company. Therefore, in order to leverage their effectiveness and competitive edge, management seeks do develop a system that incorporates all the functions in a customer friendly interface. In this regard, a study will be undertaken on the current operat...
Just in time is a key strategy companies use to increase efficiency and decrease waste by receiving goods only as they are needed in the production process thereby reducing inventory cost. ‘With the JIT manufacturing system, materials are purchased in small quantities delivered frequently just before they are needed for production’. It is a proven system of producing product effiently while keeping cost low and this is seen in two very successful companies such as Dell and Toyota. Toyota follow the ‘Kanban’ system which means they are able to change quickly in relation to demand without

Operations – To work out the right layout and work flow process in the company. The manpower resource allocation is also critical in the situation on the right balance of resource to handle the production. If possible, adopt a hybrid model to handle the flexibility in the product nature, make both the production line being able to configure standard and customized so to reduce setup and changeover time and cope with the demands.
The basic premise for JIT is fairly simple: a company only produces an item when there is a need, or just-in-time for a company or individual to purchase it (Manoocherhi, 1988). The theory of JIT also accepts that there may be a need for an item at another work station and this would also create the need for production. Rather than utilizing the common practice of mass production and attempting to sell and distribute the products after they are created, JIT waits until there is a defined need that must be met. By doing this, JIT systems allow companies to decrease the level of production, decrease the necessary manpower hours utilized in mass production modes of supply, and eliminates the waste inherent in over-production. These techniques are especially effective for small companies, who are far less able to absorb the impact of unsold products. JIT has been shown to significantly impact reductions in overhead costs that reduce re-investments, and encourage stabilizing business practices(Manoocherhi, 1988).
It is undeniable that Inventory Management is an important key to success at Walmart. This paper will discuss the two main methods of Inventory Management used by Wal-Mart: Material Requirements Planning and Just-in Time. Next we write about the technical means of keeping track of inventories, like RFID tags. We conclude by discussing how Wal-Mart, one of the world’s largest retailers, manages its inventories. Material Requirements Planning (MRP) Walmart needs to make sure that consumers are satisfied all the time, not only with the quality of service being provided to them, but with the quality of the product they are planning.
Supply Chain Management is the science that improves the ways companies use raw materials to make a product or service and deliver it to the customer. Every product that reaches an end consumer is the result of a cooperative effort between several organizations. This means companies need to manage their product, not just inside of the business walls, but the path that their product takes to reach the final consumer. If companies only focus on their product and do not follow its way to the market, many inefficiencies may occur in the companies supply chain (Baltzan 2014). Businesses who cooperate in a successful supply chain are linked with one another and allow an easy flow ...
A pull marketing strategy is where concentrate for an exact product deal is made within a target market that demands for the product from channel companions, pull strategy is get costumers to come to you to buy our product . Pull marketing strategy includes mass media promotion, word of mouth referrals, advertising on sports channel which is related to this product on television,
Material handling system is an important equipment and in the design of an effective manufacturing design. One of the main tasks in material handling system design is the selection and setup involving apparatus, demanding comprehensive technical understanding along with methodical research. Material handling equipment selection is a very complex and tedious task. The main factors contributing to the complexity of the equipment selection problem is the constraints imposed by the facility and materials, a variety of disagreeing design and style requirements, anxiety inside functional environment, and some of equipment varieties in addition to designs accessible. In recent years, the equipment selection
In manufacturing process there are different steps and jobs needs to be done in specific ways and time such as sourcing the parts we need in the production, make the items, and shipping it for the customers.
Inventory management involves planning, coordinating, and controlling the acquisition, storage, handling, movement, distribution, and possible sale of raw materials, component parts and subassemblies, supplies and tools, replacement parts, and other assets that are needed to meet customer wants and needs (Collier & Evans, 2009). In order for business and supply chains to run smoothly, they must meet all the listed requirements for effective inventory management. Thus, inventory management must be managed wisely in order to be a successful an...
