Background/Introduction: For a long time, I believed that I was the youngest sibling in the Aquino family. For twelve years, I had been spoiled, pampered, and very happy. However, everything changed with a phone call. I found out that I had a younger brother living with another family in the Philippines. My mother put so much effort, time, and money into becoming a citizen and trying to petition John Paul, my little brother, to come here in America. When John Paul came to live with us in 2011, I had to become an older brother figure. I thought that John Paul and I would get along, but we grew distant within the years we lived together. Initiating is the act of showing interest in communicating with another party (Adler, p.284). This stage is basically the introduction between two parties. In my situation, I initiated the relationship when I first met John Paul in 2011. After the initiating stage, the relationship moves onto the experimenting stage. Experimenting consist of small talks that will pursue a relationship further (Adler, p.285). This is basically the stage an individual becomes acquaintances with the other party. During the analysis week, I asked John Paul what type of movies he would like to watch. From this interaction, I could tell that John Paul was into superhero movies, which I also liked. The next stage is intensifying. Intensifying, according to the textbook is the time for relational excitement and event euphoria (Adler, p.286). During the analysis week, John Paul and I cleaned together, ate dinner together, and played videogames together. These are moments where we both shared. The feeling was nostalgic because I remember my older siblings doing similar activities with me. During this stage, I felt more like an older
