“Father-daughter relationship is something that I think is so unique and it can't really be explained unless you have a daughter.” - Michael Jordan. Paul Revere and his daughter Sarah share a special and unique relationship in the novel The Secret of Sarah Revere written by Ann Rinaldi. The book takes place during the Revolutionary War in Boston, Massachusetts. The narrator of the story is a thirteen-year-old teenager named Sarah Revere. Paul Revere, her father is the leader of the Sons of Liberty and works as a silversmith. The book Secret of Sarah Revere is about Sarah and her perspective on the secrets that are tearing her family apart. Although Paul and Sarah are secretive and clever, they are both different because Paul takes responsibility …show more content…
One similarity that they share is that they are both extremely clever. One time that Sarah is very clever is when the reverend came to their house and asked who fired the first shot at the battle of Lexington and Concord. Instead of telling him the truth, Sarah says she does not know and then starts talking about non-relevant topics and this confuses the reverend (Rinaldi 20 and 21). Paul Revere Sr. possesses the similar attribute of cleverness. One example of how Paul Revere is clever is when he is about to go to Boston, and Sarah asks him what reason is he going to give to the British Officers if they ask why he is out of the house. Paul responds, “Reason? I’m a silversmith. On my way to sell silver. What other reason?” (Rinaldi 141). Paul is clever because he is prepared, and always has a plan. Secondly, both Sarah and Paul are secretive. One example of Paul being secretive is when Sarah asks, “Do you know who fired the first shot at Lexington?” and Paul says, “No, it isn’t settled.” (Rinaldi 278). Even though he does know who fired the first shot, he does not tell anyone. One place where Sarah is being secretive is when she states, “I had a quarrel with Dr. Warren. That in itself is not too bad. What is bad is that I let the time pass for settling it. I let the words go unsaid. Until it was too late.” (Rinaldi 309). This quote is saying that Sarah quarreled with Dr. Warren, and she never said …show more content…
In my opinion, I think that Sarah and Paul’s relationship is similar to connections today because nowadays relationships are not so easy going. They are more complicated like Paul and Sarah’s relation. However, their bond is different from the modern day because in their relationship they are keeping secrets from each other. This is something that happens currently, but back then they would never figure it out because they did not communicate as much as today. I think that it would spread faster today than back then because the rumors that can fly around fast. The secrets would spread around faster due to technology that we currently use. I learned from this novel that you should never hold grudges and that as a society you should be respectful and positive. Hopefully, the strong bond between Sarah and Paul Sr. can be reflected through the modern day society that we live
Louis and Peter had quite a balance of similarities and differences between their politics. Louis and Peter both viewed themselves as above the law, however Louis thought this a bit more so than Peter. Louis XIV was quite arrogant and
A trait that both Mary Warren and I have in common is that we are caring. Mary showed her caring side by making Elizabeth Proctor a poppet while in court. She made the poppet because she felt bad because she wasn’t there to help Elizabeth at her home. I have show myself as caring when I volunteer to help others. I volunteer for the salvation army every Christmas to raise funds for charities and to help out the poor families. I am also considered as caring because I won’t turn someone down to help them. I help out random people so that it makes it easier on them, I help out the elderly by carrying bags to their cars or even carrying something too heavy for them. Being caring to others is a trait that Mary and I both share.
Jeanne and Elie have many similarities and differences. Not only did they both go through the same thing, but they also went through some very different experiences. Jeanna and Elie were around the same age and their emotions were somewhat different because of the different experiences.
As previously stated, in the beginning of the book, Paul was super quiet, shy, and lonely. In fact, his only friend was his mom. Paul never tried to change anything, and never made his voice heard. He had terrible self esteem - mainly because he felt it was his fault he was blind, and had to
Paul's father is a single parent trying to raise his children in a respectable neighborhood. He is a hard worker and trying to set a good example for his son. His father puts pressure on Paul by constantly referring to a neighbor, whom he feels is a perfect model for his son to follow.
The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon is written by the famous psychological writer, Stephen King. King usually steers more to the fictional stories and characters that people usually would see in scary movies. The difference in this story is that King brings realistic fears that could easily happen to us. This difference is what makes it so more surreal than his other stories, making this story so much scarier. The novel starts off with nine year old Trisha McFarland and her brother, Pete McFarland, and divorced mother, Quilla Anderson, take a family outing to the Appalachian Mountains. Pete and Quilla walk ahead of Trish deep in argument that is a normal occurrence between the two. Out of desperation, Trisha steps off the trail to relieve herself and get away from the constant bickering that she knew would last the duration of the trail. Trisha continues to go deeper in the woods so no other walkers could see her. Once done, she realizes how deep she has gotten. Instead of traveling the same way she came in, she decides to take a different route back to the trai...
In the beginning of the story, Paul seems to be a typical teenage boy: in trouble for causing problems in the classroom. As the story progresses, the reader can infer that Paul is rather withdrawn. He would rather live in his fantasy world than face reality. Paul dreaded returning home after the Carnegie Hall performances. He loathed his "ugly sleeping chamber with the yellow walls," but most of all, he feared his father. This is the first sign that he has a troubled homelife. Next, the reader learns that Paul has no mother, and that his father holds a neighbor boy up to Paul as "a model" . The lack of affection that Paul received at home caused him to look elsewhere for the attention that he craved.
In "Paul's Case," the story revolves around a young male. He is the main character. There are very few mentions of women, however, when they do come into the story they are only mentioned briefly, or they play minor, secondary characters. Paul's mother and sisters are spoken about once during the entire story, while there are four references to his father. The females in his family are mentioned only in passing and remain flat characters, while his father is referred to several times, each time involving an action or comment which exhibits an aspect of his father's personality which makes him a more rounded character.
This is the main similarity we can see in their poetry. However this is also where they differ as well, in their exact relationship with God. Bradstreet first found herself before realizing her love for God. This was probably due to her being well educated and independent, she really was the first feminist to hit the world. Bradstreet found God in nature a lot of the times and expressed that in her poem ‘Contemplation’
Often historical events leading up to the twentieth century are dominated by men and the role of women is seemingly non-existent outside of reproduction. When one thinks of notable and memorable names and events of the Revolution, men are the first to be mentioned. The American Revolution was mainly dominated by men including George Washington, Samuel Adams, and Benjamin Franklin. There is no denying that men were vitally important to the American Revolution, but what were the women doing? Often overlooked, the women of the Revolution played a key role in the outcome of the nation. The women of the American Revolution, although not always recognized, were an influential society that assumed risky jobs like soldiers, as well as involvement
The author explains father and daughter bond. The girl is eleven years old, and her father teaches her chess on this age because his father taught him when he became the same age as the girl. Ben Franklin and Thomas Paine have different ways of writing, Franklin writes in a more clear, short and smooth way unlike Paine who wrote persuasive essays and legal documents, these authors are similar because of the era they came from. Ben Franklin was writing during the 1700’s and so was Thomas Paine. That makes their writing a little bit more similar considering they came from the same time era, there were things going on such as the age of enlightenment. These authors styles were similar, about the same thing but they were written in a different format.
The relationship between Harriet Tubman and Benjamin Franklin’s biographies are similar because their word choice is older english. They’re different because the style of writing is more formal in Franklin’s biography. In Harriet Tubman’s biography they use a lot of quotations to represent talking between sentence, and they do this in Franklin’s too. Their sentence patterns are very similar because they use a lot of short choppy sentences to enforce how they felt towards that object.
Emily Dickinson and Robert Frost both think that individuality is very important to a person, equally like Ralph Emerson. Although they may have a lot in common, these poets are different in many ways. Both Frost and Dickinson were American poets and were both from New England. A big similarity between Frost and Dickinson. Both talk about death.
