“Cause allllll of me loves alllllll of you. Love your curves and all ya edges, all your perfect imperfections…Beautiful ballad? Yes. Was it a hit song? Yes. Do you think it was his biggest one yet? Without question. Are fans getting another album full of John Legend songs like that? Sorry, but no! On the recently released LP “Darkness and Light”, Legend takes you on a completely new joyride!
A New Agenda
Instead of smooth, he hits you with some tunes that have more of an edge. Rather than more of love jams, he steps outside of his comfort zone with sulkier musicianship. This in effect, brings out a more versatile side of Legend that many aren’t used to seeing. “What good is a dream when the dreamer dies?” he belts out on the sultry track,
Legend croons “Streets fired up with the TV crews, look ma we on the news, but they didn’t notice before this.” He is assertive and genuine but not too forceful, in true John Legend fashion. With that being said, you will still envision him get sentimental on tracks like Right By You, a special dedication to his seven-month-old daughter, Luna. Besides, on the beautiful setup duet Overload, with fellow soul crooner Miguel, Legend briefly touches on love and marriage in reference to wife/model Chrissy
(as previously mentioned). Identifying the ideas of everyday struggle and searching for a faded star that one may never get to from his point of view, in essence, the album represents his stance on what’s going on in America. He aimed to raise social awareness, bringing forth some realness and grit opposed to catchy love songs, albeit, he still provides that and then some, which we still love! Don’t get me wrong, perhaps Legend had a new agenda this time around, we simply just don’t know for sure.
Henceforth, the often close-minded will naturally doubt to a degree, but you must acknowledge an artist’s progression when it’s present. Isn’t that where the true fulfillment is stored? On this album, John Legend has done exactly that, despite the fact of trying to evolve fluently in a world full of anger, bitterness, and strife, where darkness can hover over us like an unwavering cloak if you allow it. On “Darkness and Light” John Legend just wants you to step out with him to gain some more perspective.
In the end, not everyone will feel Legend’s new change of pace, but with courage comes limitless potential. All things considered, John Legend does not disappoint with his new album. No matter what the views of his fans or critics, he is stepping out in vibrancy, so let’s march forward with him! Shall

Jerry Garcia’s life was filled with wonderful things, many of which he never expected in the first place. After an almost fatal heroin overdose in 1986, “ Garcia philosophically stated, ‘ I’m 45 years old, I’m ready for anything, I didn’t even plan on living this long so all this shit is just add-on stuff.’ ” (“Garcia”) This attitude shows why Garcia did all of the things he did and even how some of them came about. Garcia, who “functioned as the preeminent pied piper of the rock era,” led a life of great artistic ability which he used in many ways(“Grateful Dead_ Rockhall”).
I have always said the only thing I miss of a past girlfriend is her collection of Barenaked Ladies albums. After recreating her collection for myself, I learned that a new album was on the way. Maroon -- the band's sixth album is filled with 12 brand new songs with enough quirkiness and pop that will forever be the marks of the Barenaked Ladies (BNL). To my surprise Don Was, a Grammy Award winning producer whose name was also on my B-52's and Rolling Stones albums, produced this album. This pop-infused CD displays the BNL's signature of happy, jangly, tunes filled with sarcasm, irony, truth and passion embedded into every song that brings out old memories to everyone.
It will be released by Capitol Records and has been written by the “Stay With Me” hitmaker himself and his fellow Grammy award winner Jimmy Napes. "I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an
He provides a lot energy and he gives you this image that he really doesn’t like Rivera when he yells, “I Don’t F*ck With You.” This song was one of the few songs that made the top hip hip billboards. Most songs about break-ups will make you sad or depressed, but his version was more I’m more happy without you. His album was number one on the billboards in the month of March. West had a lot of input on this album, because if you listen to the sounds in the beats you can see the similarity between the two artists. Kanye and Big Sean did a collaboration together on a song called “Blessed.” The next day it was on the top of the charts on billboard. The help he gets from Kanye West makes his music well organized and more professional than others, because Kanye is a legend in the hip hop industry. The first song on his album “Dark Sky” started with this thunderstorm sound in the back ground to give you this feeling that he’s about to go hard. After the storm goes away Big Sean starts to go off(Rapping non stop) and at that point I was ready to hear the rest of the album, because of the fact that he convinced me with the first song. The beats he used on
When artists go through an emotional down fall in there career’s you see some stars fall and other’s reflect to back when it all started to better themselves. As Katy Perry stated in her interview with U.S.A Today Prism is “less over-the-top and more “me””. I have come to realize that when artist put out an album, it isn’t just to see how many copies they can sell but it’s about making music with feelings, getting into there inner self and reaching out to those who admire them, the social text of the music is the heart of every song and the album altogether. A lot of the time artist will write about their emotions but never really behind the sense of what occurred. Here I will take two artists and break down there trails and show how they made them into triumphs through the context of there music. I will describe how these artist were able to create pieces of music that took over a particular emotion and were able to get it’s point across to the listener. These artists will be Katy Perry, and Britney Spears.
...orgettable. Research shows that “There’s this unifying force that comes from the music and we don’t get that from other things.”(Landau) Bruce Springsteen is a great storyteller and has captured some of the experiences of the American working class. Even when the lyrics are dark or the subject matter is depressing, he manages to provide hope, too. For as long as I can remember, my mother has been playing Springsteen’s music. When I hear a song of his now, it reminds me of driving down the road with the windows down belting out a song with my mom. As Dave Marsh from Creem Magazine prophetically wrote in 1975, “Springsteen’s music is often strange because is has an almost traditional sense of beauty, an inkling of the awe you can feel when, say, first falling in love or finally discovering that the magic in the music is also in you.” (Bruce Springsteen Biography 2)
One of his most controversial songs came later in his career, it was titled “Jesus Walks,” many people didn’t want this song to be played but radios did it any way and so did MTV. There is one verse of the song that makes you appreciate his work:
Some people are born to become legends, Bruce Springsteen is one of them. From the second he was born and through his younger years everyone knew he was destined for something bigger than a regular nine to five life, they just didn’t realize the magnitude of what was to come. Born into a all around food middle-class family, no on in that house hold even Bruce, didn’t realize that within fifty years he would reach living legend status. Also have a title of one of the best musicians to every live. After working hard at what he loves, Bruce has become known as a musical hero and inspiration to his fans and fellow musicians. With his deep lyrics, amazing stage presence, incredible guitar skills, and his passion, he is an untouchable force in the music industry. Using his lyrics to vent his emotions and past, but to also add awareness to social issues around the world. Bruce and his love for music affected him his whole life, and has shaped into what he is today. His music now affects the world. His music has truly changed the world (musically and socially) forever.
She describes how it affected her and how he was a negligent lover. She goes so in depth with her words and I felt just as hurt as she did when I heard the song. This can be interpreted as a message to all women and men who feel as though they are not being treated fairly in their relationships. If your significant other can drop you in a heartbeat, then they do not deserve your love. “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You” is a remake of a song by Frankie Valli and the 4 seasons, but it ties in with the album so well. She speaks of a man that did her wrong, but she cannot seem to stop admiring him. Something a lot of people can relate to. There is nothing wrong with admiring from afar, but letting that same person that hurt you back into your life is a different story. Essentially this is just a playful song, and she is not encouraging people to start loving the abuser all over again. The final song is called “Tell Him (Live),” to wrap up the album she talks to everyone that did her wrong. She says despite all that they have done, she does not regret one thing in her life and she is happy with the person she is

“All of Me” is one of the few songs I liked when I first heard it. I was totally touched by the lyrics, rhythm and melody of the song and the voice of the singer as well. It is a piano ballad sung by John Legend, which dedicated to his newlywed wife Chrissy Teigen, and I think it is definitely one of the most beautiful and romantic love songs and a Valentine’s favorite song. It can be considered as a love letter that the John writes to his wife. The song describes the displays of affection and shows how much he loves his wife. Even sometimes she drives him nuts, he still loves every inch of her. Taking the good things with the bad is love of the most unconditional way.
Although music provides an aesthetic value according to DeNora, it still makes us feel in a specific way i.e. in terms of emotions. “Our response to music is in any case not always congruent with what we would objectively characterize as its emotional content” (Ball, 2010). This song for me acts as a gateway that leads me to a very special emotion by the time the song ends. In conclusion, I can say that I have made a very self-conscious choice of deep engagement and in addition, it is almost as if the music is trying to reach to me and to speak with me.
