Love was the one thing Lauryn was after since she was a little girl. She was fascinated with the idea of being married and settling with someone. What she did not expect was the hunt for love being so hurtful, heartbreaking, and draining. After many failed relationships, and many years of emotional abuse, she realized that all she really needed is herself and not someone else’s love and approval. With her newfound knowledge, Lauryn tries to not only educate the children, but people who are having a tough time trying to escape their stressful and abusive relationships as well. Her songs “Lost Ones,” “Ex-Factor,” “When It Hurts So Bad,” “I Used To Love Him,” “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You,” and “Tell Him (Live)” speak about her past relationships, …show more content…
She describes how it affected her and how he was a negligent lover. She goes so in depth with her words and I felt just as hurt as she did when I heard the song. This can be interpreted as a message to all women and men who feel as though they are not being treated fairly in their relationships. If your significant other can drop you in a heartbeat, then they do not deserve your love. “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You” is a remake of a song by Frankie Valli and the 4 seasons, but it ties in with the album so well. She speaks of a man that did her wrong, but she cannot seem to stop admiring him. Something a lot of people can relate to. There is nothing wrong with admiring from afar, but letting that same person that hurt you back into your life is a different story. Essentially this is just a playful song, and she is not encouraging people to start loving the abuser all over again. The final song is called “Tell Him (Live),” to wrap up the album she talks to everyone that did her wrong. She says despite all that they have done, she does not regret one thing in her life and she is happy with the person she is
She thinks that if she vandalizes his precious “souped-up four wheel drive” it will stop him from being unfaithful- to teach him a lesson. However, in “perfect” the thoughts haunt her mind as she realizes she serves no purpose to her boyfriend. “ I hear you talking 'bout her in your sleep”, she feels as if he’s distancing himself from her; as if he has lost the love he had for her; it can make any women feel defeated wondering what the other women is doing that has such of an effect on them. “I can taste her lipstick, it's like I'm kissing her, too”. She has reached a turning point in the relationship; she knows he is being unfaithful from the way he acts towards her, tasting her lipstick as she kisses him, when he says her name in his sleep. She knows he’s being unfaithful yet she still stays- she stays hoping he will change when he does not. While in “Before He Cheats” she does not stay another second to an unfaithful man; she leaves the relationship. Secondly, in “Before He Cheats” she keeps thinking about her ex, thinking back to the memories they had and insulting his new replacement how she is nothing like her and how she believes she is much more better than who he preferred to be with. “He’s
Trina’s intent was to create a song that liberated women from the double standards and stereotypical views placed upon them. Her song however can cause harm to young women that listen to take this song to heart. Instead of liberation, we are moved further down into the hole of degrading and devaluing women. Trina should’ve sent the message that these things were wrong. Instead she endorsed and encouraged them.
The second song, Change, also shows the problem with systematic oppression. J. Cole recounts the time that he saw his friend get shot. This is the main point of the whole album and the song revolves around the tale of this friend who is killed. The last song, 4 Your Eyez Only, brings everything back together and tells the full narrative of his friend’s unfortunate fate. While attacking the life that many people glorify and empathizing with those who are stuck in this life, J Cole closes out his fourth album on a hopeful note. Using the perspective of his deceased friend, he writes a song (the actual album), for his daughter, condemning all that is bad and hoping for her to grow into a somebody. In a heart touching verse the father states “Maybe you hate me, maybe you miss me, maybe you spite
The second book of Thessalonians, chapter 2 verse 7 says, “For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out the way”. Lauryn Hill, an American singer, rapper, and actress, who is also known as a member of the Fugees, put out one of the most prominent albums of the 90s entitled The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. one of the most politically charged songs on this album is also titled The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. In this song, Lauryn Hill talks about how people are not educated or open minded about what is going on in society today, whether it be in the judicial system, religious beliefs, or education systems. She spoke about her devotion to God and she also dove into self-ambition, but she
It is believed to be one of her best pop songs. This song is considered a pop song because it is written in the form of verses, bridges and choruses and it ends with an outro. The first verse of the song starts with “Share my life, take me for what I am”, which is shown specifically at the time 0:23. It ends with “Just all that you are and everything that you do”, which is shown at 0:53-0:58. The verse is followed with a bridge, which begins with “I don’t really need to look, very much further”, specifically at 1:00, and then follows it and it ends with “I can’t run from myself, there’s nowhere to hide” which is from 1:15 to 1:20. The song’s structure continues with a chorus, which starts off with “Don’t make me close one more door” which is at 1:21, and then it follows and ends with “If I don’t have you, you, you, you, you” which is at 1:51 to 1:56. It carries on with one more verse and one more bridge, and it ends with an outro, which begins with “Don’t you dare walk away from me” which is at 4:12 and ends with “If I don’t have you, oh you” which is at 4:27. The exact times for each verse, chorus, bridge or outro is all shown in the table below. In addition, the song is considered a pop song because it’s time duration is within the average time for a pop song, which is 3 to 5 minutes, and the song is about 4:50 minutes. Moreover, it is appropriate for different people from different places and it
This song talks a lot about the baggage of the past that people hold onto instead of letting it go. All that baggage is only going to end up hurting you more and more instead of helping you in any way possible. An example is the opening
for the years of this abuse” (5-6), these line reveal that sense of regret the writer has over their actions regarding their addiction. The lines mentioned before also show that the writer is feeling as if an impending punishment for their waste if time during the actions caused by their addiction. Towards the end the song repeats the line “You won’t go away” (38), this line is repeated a total of nine times to represent the writer’s paranoia during his addiction and alludes to the listener that the addict feels trapped. By that addiction and feels isolated to the point where his addiction “won’t go away”
In the song she shoot him because she is sick of his stuff like him with the beating her and taking avenge “He’s drunk again, it’s time to fight same old s***, just on a different night she grabs the gun, she’s had enough Tonight she’ll find out how f***in’ tough is this man pulls the trigger fast as she can, never again “ This is a quote that make sense because he was beating her and she had no power to hit him back because she not as strong as him in any way shape or form. As this girl is going through this it show us how life really is because violence goes on every day because the world is a place no one want to be in. If you look at violence statists it clearly shows you how violence in pacts us. “Fathers a name yet haven’t earned yet you’re just a child with a temper Haven’t you heard don’t hit a woman kicking’ you’re a** would be a pleasure” this is a good one because some people like me take this to heart because if you hit a woman in front of me boy I tell you want and theirs many other people who think the same way. Most people were born and raised not to hit a woman because a lot of people are like this doesn’t mean there not people like (the man who hit her) out there and this what cause violence even more in the world this take it to the highest
Levine compares a woman’s anatomy and her being like that of a drug, such as its effects and purpose only lasting temporarily for an instant gratifying high. “We get along when I’m inside you,” clumps the woman’s own individuality and personal consent with the man’s. In this case, a woman can be described as a negative because of her lack of power, while a man is a positive, and positively powerful, and therefore, a 1 negative plus 10 positive, a scale of men and women’s power, still equals a positive, and thus, interpreted as a yes in a question of consent. The line, “you can find other fish in the sea, you can pretend it 's meant to be but you can 't stay away from me” implies the stereotype that women are indecisive because of their supposed irrationality and moodiness. Then he says “taking me down, rolling on the ground” which again seems to romanticize aggression, in this song about sexual assault and stalking. “I love your lies” sounds like Levine is slut shaming a woman for not being interested or submissive to his forward ideas and expectations of what a romantic and sexual partner should
The man feels abandoned in a corner and he drinks for the sadness he feels. While drinking, he tells himself I do not understand why you left me, if I know she loved me, so if you ever regret your decision he will be waiting for you. Basically, the man feels broken emotionally because the women he loved, left him for no reason. This song to me is not a dancing song, however the song is more about remembering your ex-wife, ex-girlfriend or ex husband and ex-boyfriend. For me personally, this song reminds me of drinking, the title literally means bitter shots of liquor. The way the song shares the hurt the man feels by the women that left him. I could almost picture a man sitting at a bar drinking to his ex saying, “I’m drinking because of you, you caused this”. I could picture that scene in my head because I have seen my friends in Mexico and my cousins in Mexico do
The re-invasion of pop music has brought out the theme of love and relationships even more so then ever. If a songwriter has “writer’s block”, then the simple solution is to write a love song. “All I want is you (Come over here baby). All I want is you (You make me go crazy)... I‘m gonna love you right...” (Aguilera), is part of the chorus to Christina Aguilera’s song “Come on Over”. The attraction to this song to girls is in thinking that they could be in the situation of the female character in the song, finding the perfect guy and spending time with him. For guys, the attraction comes because a beautiful girl is singing this and they can pretend that she is singing to them. Something similar is also found in the song “Doesn’t Really Matter” by Janet Jackson. In this song she is stating all the things she loves about a certain individual. She can live with his imperfections and doesn’t care what anyone else cares. “Doesn’t really matter what the eye is seeing. Cause I’m in love with the inner being. And it doesn’t really matter what they believe. What matters to me is you’re nutty, nutty, nutty for me.” (Janet Jackson) This song is good in that it is a love song unlike many out there today. In this song we see that the main character loves her man because of who he is.
I have been in a similar situation where all your friends are telling you a person is not right for you, but all you can see is the good in them. It is very hard to let go of something or someone that has such a strong hold on your heart. It is nearly impossible for people on the outside looking in to understand a situation that they are not directly involved in. When I heard this song in concert it brought back so many memories from the situation I was in. The way that Brantley sings with such passion and a hint of pain in his voice touches my emotions as well. Towards the end of the song, there is a long pause where you think the song is over. Then you hear Brantley sing, “Not like I do” and the music plays and Brantley sings the lyrics “Never understand. That girl’s my best friend.” Then he belts “That girl’s my best friend!” with the drums and guitar blaring. I felt that that moment was the most powerful moment of his entire performance. Brantley transitions from softly singing to almost screaming about this girl that he loves, and in that moment you understand all the pain that Brantley feels. It is such a beautiful song that allows the whole audience to sympathize with Brantley, since so many people have experienced similar heartache.
The chorus lines, saying ‘And if I could offer a kindly reminder / It’s not okay to grab women by the vagina’ refers to the offensive comments that Trump made about women during a recording for a television show in 2005. On a leaked tape, he said: ‘Grab them by the pussy. You can do anything.’ The use of the word ‘vagina’ instead of ‘pussy’ - like Trump did - emphasises the vulgarity of Trump’s
CSNY is profoundly successful in conveying their message in the song by using the right lyrics and vocals accompanied by the tune of the guitars. “Helplessly Hoping” can be interpreted in so many ways that in either way it, nonetheless, will insinuate on the same thing, which is love. As they put it love is not lying, and it will always be around. Listening to the song can put one in an emotional roller-coaster that its theme can be known beforehand. This perplexed relationship describes the essence of love, and its implications. It reflects on how love can be capricious, which gives a sense of mystery. The harmony of the group in the song makes it one of my favorites, and puts it in my top list of love songs in all times.
These three girls described in this song relate to sociological characteristics of poverty, education, healthcare, marriage, and family. The biggest sociological aspect seen throughout all three girl’s stories, is poverty. Poverty is a big part of the song and shows some cases in which it is like to live in poverty. At the end of the song Ludacris is talking about how he has no idea what these girls have been through. He tells the girls to close their eyes and pretend that they are running away from their lives, when they open their eyes their problems will be gone and everything will be ok.
