Entrepreneur Research Project Joanne Rowling, known as author J. K. Rowling to her fans, was born on July 31, 1965 in Yate, United Kingdom. As a young child, Rowling grew up surrounded by books, and at the age of six she began to write fantasy stories for her sister to read. The support of her close friends and family encouraged her writing ambition and inspired her to write throughout her childhood. Interviews with both Rowling and her teachers describe her as bright and adept, but not exceptional when it came to her studies. She succeeded in higher level language courses called A-levels and was chosen by her headmaster to represent the female students of her school as head girl. Following graduation from finishing school, she was encouraged …show more content…
The inspiration for the series came to her while she suffered an hours-long delay aboard a train headed from Manchester to London. At the time, Rowling had to begin forming the plot and characters in her head alone because she didn’t have a writing utensil and was to shy to ask to borrow a pen. The main character, who later became Harry Potter, wasn’t even a wizard at first, but through her creative procedure developed into one. That very evening, Rowling began penning the early stages of her first novel, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, and later was forced to undergo arduous hours of typing on a typewriter as every revision necessitated the entire manuscript be retyped. The process to the publication took almost six years. Rowling sent off the first few chapter to various agents and was refused numerous times before being accepted by Christopher, who found a publisher on her behalf almost a year later. After enduring rejection from twelve major publishing houses, a small publisher named Bloomsbury agreed to take on the book, mostly due to the fact that the first chapter was well-received by the publisher’s
Harry was born on March 24, 1874, but he always said he was born on April 6th, because that is what his mother seemingly told him. Most amazingly, though, he even sometimes said he was born in America, depending on which reporter he was talking to! Harry was born a Jew. Harry set off for America in 1876, not knowing any English at all! He arrived there in a prolonged amount of time to raise enough money- 2 years!
McGonagall characterizes herself as a very wise teacher, and even from a young age, Rowling declares that McGonagall always displays wisdom. Rowling confirms, “By the end of her education at Hogwarts, Minerva McGonagall had achieved an impressive record: top grades in O.W.L.s and N.E.W.T.s, Prefect, Head Girl, and winner of the Transfiguration Today Most Promising Newcomer award” (6). She, also, helps teach her brothers, when they begin to learn magic, to not flaunt their magic and help clean up when something goes wrong- something very impressive for such a young girl.

Agatha Christie was a remarkable author that had her own style and “flair” of writing. Born in England, she grew up with inspirations to write. Although Agatha Christie had many events that affected her life, in the end she remained true to who she was. Agatha Christie was born on September 15, 1880, in Torquay, England.
Not only has J.K. Rowling influenced many women around the world, but she also has impacted many peoples’ lives. J.K. Rowling was a single mother trying to support her only daughter. She proved to single women that she doesn’t need a man to survive. J.K. Rowling shows females that they are just as capable as men. An editor of Good Housekeeping said “Everyone felt J.K. Rowling was the one with the most influence across the widest audience. As a single parent who managed to cope and pull herself out of poverty and create a massive entertainment empire on the way, she is very inspiring” (Nicholson). Rowling shows women that they don’t have to have super-model looks, or a wonderful voice to be noticed by society; they don’t need that to be an inspiration to people of all ages. Those important words to keep in mind underscore one of J.K. Rowling’s characters sayings, “Wit beyond measure is a man's greatest treasure” (Rowling). Rowling believes that people need to use their brains and a hop in their step to make it in this world. Rowling is such an inspiration for people everywhere, not only women- “Anything’s possible if you’ve got enough nerve” (Rowling). In 2010, J.K. Rowling was voted Britain’s most influential woman. She topped the list of over 100 women who have the most influence in the lives of the Briti...

As Rowling emphasizes in her speech failure is beneficial as removes the pressure of the unattainable expectation of perfection we have for ourselves and the “what those closest to me expected of me.” By focusing on expectations and proving ourselves we strike an “uneasy balance” in life. Rowling recounts her own struggle with the expectations of her parents and her own desires: “they hoped that I would take a vocational degree; I wanted to study English Literature.” Rowling failed to focus on her own wishes, above pleasing others and

Have you ever thought how different and similar Gandalf and Dumbledore are? Like they are both wizards. One has a staff and the other one has a wand. Creator of the most famous and best loved character in contemporary fiction, J.K Rowling is also the author of her own escape from a depressing existence on the verge of destitution. On the one hand, there is J.K Rowling who wrote the ‘Harry Potter’ novels, ‘The Casual Vacancy’ and ‘The Cuckoo’s Calling’; the literary phenomenon of the nineties and present day. On the other, there is Joanne Rowling (the ‘J.K’ was her agent’s marketing notch), a dreamy, rather shy, but passionate woman whose brilliance in translating her dreams into prose changed her life. In January 1994, she was broke and jobless, struggling to bring up a young child in a small rented flat in Edinburgh. Just six years later, with her first book transformed into a major Hollywood film, she was reportedly worth £65 million (Smith 2001).
When I began to undertake this book series I was only in the first grade, because I was so young oftentimes I would have to ask for help on a word and I would have to persevere through the difficulties and become better. In turn these difficult books at my young age expanded my vocabulary exponentially. If you know anything about the Harry Potter series, then you might know a little bit about the backstory of J.K. Rowling. An interesting fact that I learned was that she was rejected by 12 different publishers before she was accepted. This shows the immense amount of perseverance that she had to have had because she happened to be very poor at the time. The amount of faith in herself and the belief that she could do anything is an inspiration to me and everyone. This has really impacted me because it showed that with a little faith and belief in yourself, you can do anything you set your mind to.
