Entrepreneur Research Project Joanne Rowling, known as author J. K. Rowling to her fans, was born on July 31, 1965 in Yate, United Kingdom. As a young child, Rowling grew up surrounded by books, and at the age of six she began to write fantasy stories for her sister to read. The support of her close friends and family encouraged her writing ambition and inspired her to write throughout her childhood. Interviews with both Rowling and her teachers describe her as bright and adept, but not exceptional when it came to her studies. She succeeded in higher level language courses called A-levels and was chosen by her headmaster to represent the female students of her school as head girl. The inspiration for the series came to her while she suffered an hours-long delay aboard a train headed from Manchester to London. At the time, Rowling had to begin forming the plot and characters in her head alone because she didn’t have a writing utensil and was to shy to ask to borrow a pen. The main character, who later became Harry Potter, wasn’t even a wizard at first, but through her creative procedure developed into one. That very evening, Rowling began penning the early stages of her first novel, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, and later was forced to undergo arduous hours of typing on a typewriter as every revision necessitated the entire manuscript be retyped. The process to the publication took almost six years. Rowling sent off the first few chapter to various agents and was refused numerous times before being accepted by Christopher, who found a publisher on her behalf almost a year later. After enduring rejection from twelve major publishing houses, a small publisher named Bloomsbury agreed to take on the book, mostly due to the fact that the first chapter was well-received by the publisher’s
