J.K. Rowling: A Phenomenon in the Making

! Joanne Kathleen Rowling was born on July 31st, 1965 near Bristol, England. Her

parents were both from London and had met on a train traveling from Kingʼs Cross

Station to Scotland when they were of a very young age. They married a year later at

! Joanne was born almost a year later, and was described to be a very “chubby

baby”. So chubby in fact, that she decided to use her description for Harry Potter as an

infant in the first installment of her novels as to “what appeared to be a beach ball

wearing different colored bobble hats”. (“Comptonʼs by Brittanica”)

! Rowling had a younger sister, Di, appear nearly 2 years later. Joanne has

always had a bit of envy for Di because she always thought that Di was substantially

prettier than herself. Joanne always claimed that her parents deemed her “the smart

one” and Di was simply, “the pretty one”. Joanne and Di always wanted to be each

other. J.K wanted to be more attractive, and Di wanted to be taken more seriously,

instead of being always known for having a pretty face. Rowling claims that this

contributed to a lot of their fighting during their childhood. However, the time that wasnʼt

spent fighting with each other, Di and Joanne were the best of friends. Joanne was quite

the story teller and Di would love hearing the. Most the time, the stories became almost

! Rowling went from being supported by welfare, to becoming Britainʼs 13th

wealthiest woman. (Even more wealthy than the queen) Although, Rowling does not

intend on writing any more novels for the series, Rowling always imagines keeping them

close to her heart. She also intends on writing more works of her own. Rowling

currently lives in Scotland with her husband, Dr. Neil Murray whom she married on

December 26th, 2001. They have two children together David and Mackenzie.
