Islam:Empire of Faith
The main purpose for the movie Islam Empire of Faith was to inform us about the Islamic culture. The movie in some parts really got you into the moment and started educating you but then some other parts trailed off and it was very hard to concentrate during those stretches of time. So I think that the only thing that would make it better is that the movie did a better job of keeping you fixed on what is going on. The faith of Islam affected Muslims, Christians, and many others by by peacefully changing their religion unlike the other conquerors and forcing them to change religions. this wasn't as affective as the more forceful conquerors methods but in the long run it ended up helping them in the long run because people didn't want to kill them so they though of them as understanding people. Two of the most influential religions around the globe are Buddhism and Islam. Both religions trace back to the 6th century. They are among the top five major religions around the world. Today, Islam ranks second as an organized religion and has more followers than Buddhism. Buddhism and Islam mostly have basic beliefs that are relatively different from each other. Buddhism originated from Nepal, India and is based off the teachings of Buddha and denies the existence of any kind of god. Meanwhile, Islam originated from Mecca, Saudia Arabia where Prophet Muhammad was born and is based off of one God, Allah, who is all great and powerful. Some examples of differences and similarities between Buddhism and Islam include their practices, sacred texts, and their beliefs of life after death and the afterlife.
The town of Mecca was the birthplace of Islam, at first the leaders of the city refused the changing of this new religion and forced Muhammad to leave. Muhammad returned and preached to the people about what he had heard, that there is only one god. Islam spread quickly for two main reasons they are the message and military conquest.
Expansion of the Muslim Empire The Muslim empire expanded vastly from 622 CE to 750 CE. This empire could be compared to the Holy Roman Empire, one of the greatest in the world. There are three main reasons to explain how the Muslim empire reached its height: battling for land, signing peace treaties, and granting stipends. Every Muslim who was in the military fought against other civilizations for land. After that, they made an agreement, or a peace treaty, with the people of the land they conquered.
The Islamic Caliphates worshipped the Quran which was a religious text which the Islamic Caliphates believe is a religious text from God.
Movies, one can argue, are one of America’s greatest pastimes. Unfortunately, after 9/11, films have become increasingly prejudiced against American Muslims. In movies Muslims are frequently portrayed negatively. According to James Emery, a professor of Anthropology, Hollywood profits off of “casting individuals associated with specific negative stereotypes”. This is due to the fact that viewers automatically link characters with their clichéd images (Emery). For Muslims, the clichéd image is of the violent fundamentalist, who carried out the terroristic attacks on 9/11. As a result, the main stereotypes involved in movies display Muslims as extremists, villains, thieves, and desert nomads. An example of a movie that has such a negative character role for Muslims in film is Disney’s cartoon Aladdin, depict...
The conception of the Islamic civilization drew much attention in Arabia. In 600 C.E., the rise of this new empire helped its people improve in all studies of sciences and culture. The ability to spread teachings and customs throughout an entire area could not be easily obtained, therefore they used extended force and violence to take control of lands. In 610 C.E, when Muhammed was met by the angel Gabriel and accustomed his beliefs to those of God, the devotion of Muhammed's followers increased at a rapid rate. Following the death of Muhammed in 632 C.E., the civilization expanded very rapidly through momentous success both by converting nonbelievers to Islam and military conquests of opponents. It is noted that during the expansion of the
Islam is a monotheistic and Abrahamic religion alongside Judaism and Christianity. It is currently the second largest religion in the world today. Its beliefs come from the Qur'an which literally means "the recitation" which is believed to be a literal transcription of the word of God. Its main prophet is named Muhammad who began Islam by speaking with the angel Gabriel in a cave during his meditation and then acting as an instrument of God to help write the Qur’an. Muhammad then spread Islam to the scattered tribes of Arabia by becoming the leader of Yathrib and using his wonderful leadership abilities to then grow his influence over virtually all of Arabia. Muhammad is known by Muslims to be the seal of the profits because no profits after Muhammad should be considered legitimate. Muhammad also left behind the Hadith or “tradition” which is a collection of writings compiled of reports of Muhammad’s actions as leader of Yathrib. These reports are used as a more specific code of ethics in day to day life and from these reports the 5 Pillars of Islam are derived (Smith 160). Although Islam shares many similarities to Judaism and Christianity it is often viewed in the US with hate derived from preconceived notions following the attack on September 11th 2001. This paper seeks to provide an overview of Islam’s history as well as its two major sects and 5 main pillars to remove preconceived notions and provide a glance into the minds of the Islamic people.
The Muslim Empire began to expand vastly under the Umayyads, with the empire becoming so large many people were converting to Islam religion. The Umayyads were the second of the four major caliphates after the death of Muhammad. The Empire used many different ways to spread the Islamic civilization consisting of war, classes, and appeal. The Islamic civilization spread so strongly because of the way it allured the common man.
As the Qur’an was written in Arabic, it created a common language in the Islamic empire, making communication and trade easier. The economy benefited from the increase in trade which spread goods as well as Islamic ideas, culture, and knowledge. Islam attracted many scholars to big cities like Baghdad, where they studied at the House of Wisdom — a library and academy that included a huge collection of books and manuscripts in a variety of languages. Religion also gave rise to new discoveries such as the invention of the lunar calendar and astronomy because Muslims needed to know the direction of Mecca in order to complete their pilgrimage. Similar to Islam influencing the east, Christianity also shaped medieval Europe.
...is one of the most popular religions in the world. They influenced us greatly because a religion that we practice today is a root from Judaism and we call it Christianity. They started the whole monotheistic movement. The Arabs conquered the Zoroastrinists who then began to live in the hills and practice their religion very discreetly. Then Islam came into play with the Arabs. Islam is the most populated religion in the world today. Without these two religions we still may have been a polytheistic society and praying to a god for everything we see.
The film itself is rather striking, in that these images of the Arab world and culture haven’t been openly contested. Rather the depictions of Arab culture have been openly accepted and utilized for entertainment purposes, even within family films such as Aladdin. The stigmas surrounding Arab culture have become
The movie The Message by Moustapha Akkad tries to tell the story of Mohammad from the Islamic religion to an audience that may know nothing of the religion. As any representation of Mohammad is forbidden the movie never depicts or voices the Prophet using instead side characters who become the main characters to supplement the story. The creators also utilize an ingenious technique of second person filming.. The scenes which Mohammad was present the filming was done from the viewer's perspective that the remaining characters then spoke to. The handling of Mohammad’s epic tale along with stipulation of the religion was masterfully done. The Message acts as a wonderful medium to explore the story and historical life of the Prophet Mohammad.
...ts and knowledge from other nations and made sometime improved it or added to it and passed it on to other nations, which strengthened the belief of Islam even more to people. All in all, the rise and spread of Islam was very significant during the Postclassical Era.
Many people have been led to the fact that Islam is violent, but all these people do not know the truth, they hear it by the famous people and believe it. The famous people have led other people to believe that all Muslims are risky to be near. I believe that because of these Muslim terrorists, media thinks that all Muslims or believers of Islam are disgraceful, which leads to everyone believing the media.
The Achievements of The Islamic Civilization Islam, one of the most successful religions was started by Muhammad in Arabia and had a massive impact on the world. If it weren't for Islam the world would have been a very different place to live in. Muslims didn't always invent things; sometimes they improved on other people's inventions e.g. the number system, the astrolabe and much more. The first Muslims were Arabs and they went on to conquer many countries.
