Millions of fans cannot be wrong. Baseball is a popular sport because people of all ages can learn it. Rules of baseball are important because they make the game fair for everybody. Younger generations look up to baseball players because they can see how teamwork and discipline of the sport work making the team players look like role models for them. Baseball, a sport with a good history, easy to learn rules, and amazing teams and players, like the St. Louis Cardinals, provides a career for people looking to succeed and become good role models.

Baseball began in 1839. “In 1845, according to baseball legend, Alexander J. Cartwright, an amateur player in New York City, organized the New York Knickerbocker Base Ball Club, which formulated a set of rules for baseball, many of which still remain” (Jamail). William Cammeyer, in 1862, built the first enclosed ballpark with seats in it in Brooklyn, New York. People were required to pay money to see a game. Baseball season begins in early April and ends in October with the World Series. The first World Series, as we know it today, between the National and American Leagues was played in 1903. However, in 1882, there was a World Series played, but it was between a National League team and an American Association team. The 1920s is when baseball began to be broadcast on the radio. Comiskey Park located in Chicago, Illinois was the scene for the first All-Star Game in 1933. Another historical moment is when Jackie Robinson began to play in major league baseball as being the first black baseball player to play with the white baseball players in 1947. This team became part of the National League in 1892. They finally were first called the Cardinals in 1900. Chris Von der Ahe, the owner of the Browns, went bankrupt in 1898. Then, Frank and Stanley Robison became the new owners. The new owners changed the Browns name to the Perfectos. The team’s color became the cardinal red that the team now has today. There was a fan in the stands that said, “What a lovely shade of cardinal” (qtd. in Fleming). The next season the Perfectos were called the Cardinals. The Cardinals struggled from 1900 to 1925. The Cardinals won their first World Series then in 1926. In 1928, they won the National League pennant race, but did not go on to win the World Series. Jay Hanna “Dizzy” Dean played his first game as a Cardinal in 1930. The Cardinals won their second World Series in 1931. They ended up winning the World Series in 1934. On June 4, 1940, the St. Louis Cardinals played their first game at night. Stan Musial became a Cardinal in 1941. Bob Gibson ended up being one of their best pitchers. Lou Brock was one of their best runners. The St. Louis Cardinals ended up winning the World Series in 1942.
