17 straight World Series dating back to 1999. One photographer has been to every game and captured the great iconic moments. His name is Brad Mangin and he is a freelance baseball photographer based in the San Francisco Area.
Mr. Mangin grew up in the San Francisco bay area in the city of Fremont. His father was a former basketball player at The University of Pacific and was a high school basketball coach for 32 years. Sports were big in his family, but Mangins favorite was baseball, and his favorite team was the San Francisco Giants. During his youth when games were not televised, Mangin dreamed of being a radio broadcaster so he could go to every Giants game. After Mangin graduated he took a job working for Contra Costa Times for a year then was hired to be a sports photographer for The National Sports Daily. At 25, Mangin found himself shooting the World Series, Super Bowl, and NBA Finals all in the same year. It didn't last long as the next year the National collapsed and Mangin found himself out of a job. After working some freelance jobs, and the death of his father to cancer, he was given an opportunity by Sports Illustrated to shoot some assignments in 1992. Mangin did well and the assignments kept coming, shooting the Giants and 49er’s for SI and Upper Deck. He also shot some NBA games that winter, learning to become a better photographer and businessman. Mr. Mangin then bought a fax machine and began doing invoices and accounting on his own before getting a Apple Powerbook 520c in 1994, his first computer. Not long after as the assignments to shoot for SI kept coming, his friend Joe mentioned earlier helped him set up his first portfolio website manginphotography.com. In 2002 Mangin also helped launch the website SportsShooter.com. These days when Mangin is not shooting baseball games he has his iPhone handy and is shooting football games or out on the range during the PGA Tour. On his instagram @bmangin he has amassed over 10,000 followers. Mr. Mangin also has published two books called “Instant Baseball: The Baseball Instagrams of Brad Mangin” which captures the 2012 baseball season from spring training to the World Series all shot on his iPhone and “Never. Say. Die.: The San Francisco Giants- 2012 World Series Champions” which covers the Giants memorable 2012 season. Mr. Mangin also does workshops, and speaks at colleges and venues, such as Stanford University, National Baseball Hall of Fame, Brooks Institute, and the Atlanta Sports Photojournalism
