Americans have become extremely-even horrifyingly rude. Social media is dangerous. This according to the article “Is Anything Wrong With This Picture”. Social media has positive and negative effects, but I think it has more disadvantages for people to use. To begin with, there are many positives for people to use social media appropriately without having to get in trouble by using it. According to Melissa Healy’s article “Social Media Butterflies May Not Be Such a Bad Idea” she states “Adolescents are using social networking sites to keep in touch with friends” (5). In Lauren Tarshis and Kristen Lewis article “Is Anything Wrong With This Picture” they state that “Americans have become ruder because of the distraction of being on social on an electronic” (25-26). In fact, because of distraction people don’t interact in person with others. They don’t respect people talking to them all they want to is chat or text with friends on social media. Another example in Tarshis and Lewis’s article states “Ways of communication standards of conduct has changed” (26). Although people don’t know how to be respectful to others. The generation has changed and being respectful is different now. Most importantly, I think that social media has a negative effect on people. It is more dangerous to people being on social media. As an example, Agata Blaszczak-Boxe article “Social Media Use in Teens Linked to Poor Sleep, Anxiety”, states that “pressure to be available 24/7 on social media may lead poorer sleep quality as well risk of depression and anxiety, according to a new study”. Also examined teens’ sleep quality, self-esteem, anxiety, and depression. The whole time spending on social media the examiner showed decreased sleep quality, lower self-esteem, increased anxiety, and depression levels. It shows that social media can also affect the health. Social media can be a serious danger to people’s well-being that can cause problems to them. Social media is proven to have positive
In the two articles, "Is Anything Wrong With This Picture?" and "How The the Telephone Made America Rude" by Lauren Tarshis and Kristen Lewis it explains how technology has made us rude. In "Is Anything Wrong With This Picture?" The authors make it clear that we not only are rude have become more selfish in some ways. "We take them into the bathroom stalls. We don't bother to take out our earbuds in the check out line. We post unflattering photos of our friends because we look good in them"(Tarshis Lewis 25). Phones have changed the way we act in public and how we treat people the changes are obvious. Now that we have changed our actions we are becoming more and more accustomed to the changes in etiquette. In "How the Telephone Has Made America

To begin with, social media has been proven to be a dangerous addiction due to the many negative side effects like: sleep deprivation, and self-esteem problems. Most of the adult American population is connected to some sort of social media site, and they have joined the banned wagon of people whom check their social media accounts at least five times a day. Using social media to often can be time consuming and essentially causes sleep deprivation because the user stays up late on social media. Since social media has grown in popularity many have began to believe that social media is a life necessity. It is viewed by many as a daily necessity like brushing our teeth, or yet as important as eating. People whom are constantly on social media have been linked to develop self-esteem problems because they are so consumed on pretending and portraying this image of a person they are not. Have you ever wonder what Social Media can do to one’s life? Does it make the life better or worst? Does it benefit the user or harm? If you ask me, then I would say that there are more risks than benefits of social media because it decreases the amount of social interaction of people, increases the amount of cyberbullying, and violates privacy.
In today’s society, much advancement has been made throughout the universe. However, one that seems to stand out in particular is the use of social media. Social media has both positive and negative effects on society. This advancement has led to a difference in communication to everyone by reconnecting with others, or even informing the public nationwide through televisions such as the news or talk shows. However, is social media safe to use? Social media has a great impact on everyone in society. While allowing your children or teenagers to engage in social media a few things to consider are the risks of youth using social media, what age is too young, and also how social media is useful in some cases. Children participate in cyber bullying now and even find themselves involved in bad habits, such as sexting (Schurgin O’Keefe). According to a recent poll conducted, over 22 percent of teenagers log onto their social media site more than ten times a day (Schurgin O’Keefe). Social media can have detrimental effects on the formation of an adolescent’s identity such as social isolation meaning that the individual will spend excessive amounts of time attached to any electronics that will provide him with social media access. Social networking has been debated to have beneficial or detrimental effects, as overuse and abuse of the Internet can be harmful to someone, such as an adolescent. Social media although a great tool can become an addiction ultimately affecting our lives and state of mind. That is why we need to limit the amount of time and information we share on social networks. Although the internet is a tool full of good and bad available to everyone, teenagers and young adults are more prone to falling into the traps of the internet. People also abuse social media and overuse it every day because they are concerned with what is happening every hour. Social media is a tool not a necessity and should never be abused or used as a diary because it could result in unwanted consequences that can hurt us in the future.
Social media has nothing but negative effects on people’s minds. Social networking can become very addicting and people can get wrapped up in the drama and excitement of the cyber world. It would only improve our society today if social media never existed to our knowledge. Our society today feels so connected with social media that it interferes with our lives making every task even harder with the temptations.
Bhardwaj 1 Think of a time when people didn’t have technology and how they had to interact, whether it had been from writing letters to using telegraphs, communicating with people was hard to come by back then. Of course, times have changed and now technology has made it easier over the years, social media has become an essential part of our lives whether it be on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and many other websites. Nowadays, everybody is using it whether its companies using media to promote their products or even teachers tweeting out what last night’s homework was. Social media is a great tool that helps us connect with the world and communicate our ideas. Yet there are some people who believe that social media has a negative impact towards our society as they believe that people can get addicted to it, it causes them to get easily distracted, and many other dangers.
There are about one and a half billion users of social media worldwide. It can be used to meet new people, find old friends, chat the day away, join interest groups, or even to share pictures. Social networks were mostly created so people could meet and find new friends. What most users of social media don't know, are the dangers of using social media. One example is when you meet a person online, because they are not always who they say they are. If someone is not who you may think they are, who could they be? They can be a stalker or a person that wants to steal your identity; which could be done easily thanks to new developments of new technology. Also thanks to new technology it is now easier for people using your information to track you. Posting personal information can risk your family and friends lives. Social media can be used as a weapon against you. It can even lead to a kidnapping, or even someone's death. Many people use social media to help to waste time, but could also become an unhealthy addiction. Also social media can damage your future. When you are a teen you tend to post pretty much anything you want. This is dangerous because you can post too much personal information. What most teens don't realize is that what they do on social media now can affect them for the rest of their life. It can even come back to haunt you in the future. Social media is dangerous because it makes it easier to be stalked, identity theft to happen, kidnappings and murders, and also can ruin your future.
