The Daniel Goleman’s presentation I watched was called “The Introduction to Emotional Intelligence”. I learned that emotional intelligence has 4 main domains including self awareness, self management. empathy, and summarizing it all. Self awareness is knowing what you feel and why you’ll feeling it. Self management is handling your distress emotional in an effective way. This way they don 't cripple you and get in the way of what you are doing. You can turn to them when you need to learn what you must, every emotion has a function. Empathy is knowing what others are feeling. Based on my results, for my weakness I am reasonably skilled when it comes to the core ability of identifying, perceiving and expressing emotions in myself and others. I still need an improvement in them areas. Overall my strength , skills in the area of emotional intelligence aid me in the process of reading others, understanding how they feel, and effectively identifying my own emotions. These skills form the basis of your ability to relate to the emotions of others as well as your ability to understand yourself. I selected this organization because it 's has a strengthen organization, that has a good foundation. It maintains facial solvency, increasing visibility, and promotes community services including global awareness. The organization also support research and scholarships. The SOHS will help me become a successful because they are educating stakeholders that utilizing technology, advocacy, and activism.
The continuous education that is required in the human service field is Human Services-Board Certified Practitioners (HS-BCPs) must complete the established recertification requirements, every five years in order to maintain the credential. HS-BCPs must complete 60 clock hours of relevant continuing education during each five-year certification cycle. The continuous education is important because it pertains to the code of ethics.
I think the word professionalism is the way you act in a professional setting. It could also mean the way you carry yourself at work. For a person to be professional, I think they should have good professionalism skills. To the human service professionalism is an individual who is driven to succeed in helping people and organizations perform at an optimal level. Emotional intelligence is the ability to identify and manage individual’s emotions. Also one should be able to recognize other people emotions to help improve their life. Goleman shares five elements to the theory, which are self-regulation, awareness of your own feelings, motivation, empathy, and social skills. Having self-regulation gives people the ability to recover form emotional distress and manage one’s emotion. Motivation helps one stay in the task they want to fulfill. Empathy is the awareness of what others are feeling and social skills is the ability to cooperate with people. All of the elements are used to make individuals to be a better person, to complete their goals and bring others on track. This can bring great change to an individual at any given moment in their life and help them develop as a better
Professionalism can be defined as the competence of skills and principles of an individual in a profession. A professional must be knowledgeable in their profession, committed to improvement of one’s knowledge and skills, service oriented, covenantal relationships to patients/patrons, creative, innovative, ethical, accountable and a leader. These competencies are essential for a professional to perform and excel in their profession.
Professionalism is defined as the accrued knowledge and behavior possessed by individuals in order to obtain successful goals and attributes for their organization, facility or work environment (McDonagh, 2008). Being professional while at work let others know that you are reliable, respectful, and competent at what you do. Professionalism in a medical office is very important, it means putting patient needs as top priority. Professionalism in a medical office is taking responsibility of your patients, committing to patient confidentiality, and having patient-centered care for the patients.

These domains are then broken into two competencies. Self-awareness, the understanding of one 's emotions and being clear about one 's purpose, and self-management, the focused drive and emotional self-control, make up the personal competence (pp. 39, 45-46). While social awareness, or empathy and service, and relationship management, the handling of other people 's emotions, make up the social competence (pp. 39, 48, 51). These emotional intelligence competencies are not innate talents, but learned abilities, each of which contribute to making leaders more resonant and effective (p. 38). When we hear someone use the word professionalism, usually it is used to describe one’s conduct on the job. So, what does it mean to be a professional?
Emotional intelligence is the ability to gauge your emotions as well as the emotions of those around you, to make a distinction among those emotions, and then use that information to help guide your actions (Educated Business Articles , 2017). It also helps us consciously identify and conceive the ways in which we think, feel, and act when engaging with others, while giving us a better insight to ourselves (Educated Business Articles , 2017). Emotional Intelligence defines the ways in which we attain as well as retain information, setting priorities, in addition to regulating our daily actions. The ability to express and control our own emotions is vital for our survival in society and the work place but so is our ability to understand, interpret, and respond to the emotions of others. Salovey and Mayer proposed a model that identified four different factors of emotional intelligence (Cherry, 2015).
For moreover, Daniel Goleman (2004) explained that emotional intelligence plays an integral role in defining character and determining both our individual and group densities. It involves the ability in monitoring one’s own and others emotion, to discriminate among them, and to use the information to guide one’s thinking and action. It means to embrace the power of emotion intelligently, it involves abilities that may be categorized, into five (5) domains: (1) self-awareness, (2) emotional maturity, (3) self-motivation, (4) emphatic understanding, and (5) quality communication.
Professionalism is defined as one's conduct at work. The quality of professionalism is not restricted to those in occupations with high level of education or high earnings. Any worker regardless of their level of education or occupation should demonstrate a high level of this trait (About.com, 2013). Acting professionally at workplace makes others think of you as reliable, respectful, and competent.
Before I lay emphasis on defining professionalism, I would rather ponder what is unprofessionalism. According to the Free Dictionary by Farlex, unprofessionalism is defined as not conforming to the standards of a profession or unprofessional behavior. Some of the glaring examples or traits of unprofessionalism are as follows- being unresponsive, putting the blame on others, not keeping up the promises, pervasive politics, being fake, putting profit ahead of customer needs, poor communication, lying and stealing, not giving 100%, superficial work, and lastly thin skin. Most individuals look forward to working in an environment that is composed of professional and competitive staff. A positive working environment promotes efficiency, productivity, performance, teamwork and camaraderie.
Emotional Intelligence is this ability for yourself to recognize and understand emotions for yourself and those around you. This ability helps you manage your behavior and relationships to get a better perspective for others. We citizens all have emotions, we use it all the time. It affects how we manage behavior, navigate social skills, and makes personal decisions that achieve great positive results. Theories, approaches and the mindset of employees have changed with the times. Millennials now make up the largest demographic of employees in the workforce and as result the this has changed the dynamics of professional relationships. I grew up an era where the concept of shut up/do as your told and don’t question the system was the norm. Respect was a two-way street and earned not given. Opinions were heard and that may or may not have been the end of it but in today’s society it seems that you have to watch everything you do or say in order to not offend someone. Professionalism refers to the skill, good decision, and polite behavior that is expected from a person who is trained to do a job well.
An individual’s ability to control and express their emotions is just as important as his/her ability to respond, understand, and interpret the emotions of others. The ability to do both of these things is emotional intelligence, which, it has been argued, is just as important if not more important than IQ (Cassady & Eissa, 2011). Emotional intelligence refers to one’s ability to perceive emotions, control them, and evaluate them. While some psychologists argue that it is innate, others claim that it is possible to learn and strengthen it. Academically, it has been referred to as social intelligence sub-set. This involves an individual’s ability to monitor their emotions and feelings, as well as those of others, and to differentiate them in a manner that allows the individuals to integrate them in their actions and thoughts (Cassady & Eissa, 2011).
