Interview's Transcript Interviewer: What do you do at the first lesson? Interviewee: I usually do an introduction activity. Something fun and creative in which I get to know the students and the students get to know each other. However, it depends if it is a new class or not. If we know each other already, the activity will focus on what they did during the vacation. Interviewer: What is established on the first day of school face to face? Interviewee: I do not think I establish anything on the first day. I do not want to scare them. Interviewer: Do you introduce your rules? Interviewee: I do not do it at the first lesson. I usually start at the second lesson with the most important rules such as, being on time and respecting each other. During …show more content…
The principal was actually one of the teachers in the past, so he truly understands and works with the rest of the staff cooperatively. Furthermore, he is very involved in the classroom management. For example, the principal decided that each time a pupil comes late to class, the teacher can send him to the secretary to get a letter. If he has three letters, he will get suspended for a day. Moreover, if a student got twice a letter with an assignment one after the other, he stays for a long day. The principal also takes some problematic children and speaks with them personally and in general, if I have a student that is out of control, I know that I can send him to the principal and he will help me. Although I do not have to use this support, it aids me as a teacher to know that I have someone on my back and that I am not alone. In general, we have a very good and safe environment in school as …show more content…
I even asked the same questions other teachers as well since the answers can truly aid me as a teacher. Although the questions do not relate to the learning content, they are very important for the way of learning. It seems that a good way of learning will result in better learning. Moreover, it is related to everyday teaching. In contrast of the content which changes from time to time. In addition, classroom management seems to be one of the most difficult tasks for a teacher. From the interview, I learned that the most effective and essential way is being consistent. The consequences of this method are useful and not only for the classroom management but also for promoting the learning in general since a consistent teacher makes the pupil know what is expected of him and makes a clear and safe environment, which supports learning. Also, I was surprised to find out a teacher who has such a close relationship with her students' parents. Most of the teachers that I know, usually look at parents' involvement in a negative way. Nevertheless, it appears to be a promoting tool for teachers if they use it correctly and with some
As a teacher in training, I have very limited in-classroom experience and depend heavily on the expertise of professors as well as a variety of books and articles published on education. I am convinced that a learner centered approach to instruction is of fundamental importance and that it will inform most teaching decisions I will need to make to become an effective educator. Knowing as much about the students before school even begins will help structure the content material and guide the instruction methods. Along with this, knowing what the school provides in terms of environment and materials will help formulate a plan to give students every possible opportunity for achievement and success. Wong (2005) defines classroom management as “all of the things that a teacher does to organize students, space, time and materials so that student learning can take place” (p. 84).
Students need to be able to come to school, feel welcome, and receive the best education that their teacher can provide. To be able to do this the principal needs to make the decisions that supports his/her school. Principals need to be role models and responsible decision makers. Policies and procedures need to be updated regularly and should be reviewed by multiple parties.
Parent school involvement in children’s education is associated with positive outcomes, educational and otherwise. Within the last two decades parent involvement has increased in American schools. While initially parents were
In my twelve years of teaching experience, one thing that most of my colleagues have struggled with at some point in their career has been classroom management. Classroom management is one many keys to instructional success. Unfortunately, many have left the teaching field due to lack of knowledge of classroom management best practices.
On one of my first days of school placement I learned the importance of teachers having good questioning skills. I was helping out one afternoon when a young child, pulled out the chair of a classmate as he was about to sit down and the student fell on the floor. It was quite a dramatic incident and I was very impressed by the way the teacher used questioning to deal with the wrongdoer and make him think about his actions and see the error of his ways using leading questions without getting angry and shouting at the child. The teacher’s conversation with the student, who for privacy reason’s we’ll call John, went something like this.
By working at making sure there is trust and openness between the teachers and oneself, an administrator will have made it comfortable for the teachers to come to him or her with any requests, concerns, ideas, or grievances. Plus, by ensuring one is not just delegating, but also being hands on and taking on work too, then the administrator has set an example to all the staff that all work is important and that he or she is willing to take on tasks and challenges as well.
This is a great tool that schools can use to help connect parents to community resources that could benefit their families. As teachers, we must do what we can to make sure that our students’ most basic needs are being taking care of without this it is hard for children to be in the mind frame of wanting to learn. * The last idea that I want to mention is just any activity that I can do as a teacher that includes the family. It is vital that educators be proactive in trying to design and plan lessons that include the family.
Classroom management has the largest effect on student achievement, so students cannot learn in poorly managed classroom. Additionally, research has pointed out that the quality of teacher-student relationships is the main aspect of classroom management.(…2). Furthermore, when teachers set classroom management plan, the plan will give structure to everything from seating to lessons to grading to the relationship between students. Teachers should incorporate strategies for addressing student behavior into classroom
Parental involvement in a child’s life is crucial to their motivation, and eventual success or failure in school. According to the National Education Association (NEA), students who have parents involved in their education are more likely to earn higher grades, go to school regularly, have better social skills, have more positive behavior, and proceed to secondary
I’m glad my first impression for the interviewer was a good one. This also increased my motivation.
I believe Classroom Management is the main component in the educational setting. I believe if students are in a safe environment, then learning can take place. This doesn’t mean punishing behavior problems but rather a combination of setting the tone in a class, preventing behavior problems with interesting and engaging curriculums and effectively including all students in the classroom so that their needs are met. Having the right environment for all students to learn is my major goal of implementing good classroom management--without it the students would not be able to learn.
During my own classroom observation it was noted that the level of questioning with the students needed to be improved upon. Reynolds and Muijs (1999) mention one of the main requirements to be an effective teacher is knowledge of the content being taught. Spending more time reviewing the content and preparing a list of questions prior to each lesson would greatly help develop the level of questioning with the
Parental involvement promotes the social growth of a child. Children whose parents are involved in their education have many advantages. They have better grades, test scores, long-term academic achievement, attitudes and behavior than those with disinterested mothers and fathers (Gestwicki, 2001). Parents becoming involved in their child's schooling creates extra sources of social constraint to influence the child's behavior (McNeal, 2001). For example, parents talking to their children and becoming involved in the school conveys a message to the child of education being important. Parents should be talking with your children's teacher and letting her know about your family. The more she knows about your child, the better she will be able to connect with your child.
In the reading it brings up how most parents are only contacted by the school when it is something bad. This is not how it should be. Teachers should be sending home good news notes to the parents praising the students for their hard work in the class. Schools also need to be welcoming to the families and provide workshops to assist in the parent’s knowledge to allow them to help their children with their schoolwork. Having the parents involved and aware of the things that are going on in the classroom and the school are great ways to build that relationship and to enhance the student’s academic achievement and
We need to continuously assess and evaluate our students so we can set appropriate goals for each student and individual instructions. Each child learns different, so as a teacher we need to have different styles of teaching for positive reinforcement.
