This week during my internship the pace was a bit slow again. However, I learned a lot during this week. I talked to my supervisor about getting more hours and with his approval I am now doing 10 hours a week. It was great to be able to speak about my hours with my supervisor and that he understood me. During this week I had another one-on-one session with a client. I was instructed to show him a video about teenage strategies that lead to success then ask him questions about the video. I knew that my client was a juvenile, but as I walked into the room, I was surprised to see how young the client was. One aspect I really disliked was that the silences made me really nervous and it led me to ask closed-ended questions. Even though I wrote down the questions I needed to ask before hand as open-ended questions when I actually said them to him I asked them as closed-ended questions. This led him to be able to answer my questions in one-word answers, which led to more silence. However, I was able to rephrase my questions and asked for more information when needed. At the end of the session I made sure to thank him for participating (the little that he did), because I could tell it was hard for him. Even though I was really nervous about working with a child it went okay and I felt like I received some new information from him. Another aspect of the internship, I liked this week was that I was able to do drug test training online and was able to receive a certificate. I will be able to put this on my resume and be able to use this in my future career. I will also be able to administer drug test on clients whenever needed. At the end of the previous school year, Carol, and her daughter’s teachers noticed that Carol’s daughter was not progressing in her studies, and an evaluation conducted by the child study team revealed that she had a specific learning disability. An IEP meeting was scheduled, and conducted. The determination was made to place Carol’s daughter in the same resource room as Carol’s client Jody, for half of the day. Carol instantly realized that this decision put her in a predicament where a dual relationship would be created. She would then cross a clear boundary, and become a parent of a classmate, as well as the professional she has already established herself as to Jody and her parents. This would undoubtedly lead to instances in which both her client, and the client’s family would be interacting with her at both school functions and on class trips. She knew that allowing this to happen was against the BACB Guidelines for Responsible Conduct for Behavior Analysts. Carol voiced her opposition and explained the ethical quandary to those attending the IEP meeting, and what would occur if her daughter was placed in the same room with her client. Carol stated that she would speak with her supervisor, but it was probable that he would determine that she would not be able to continue working with Jody. My favorite part of the day was a woman thanked us over and over for relieving her sore tooth. It had a gapping wipe hole in it. We were able to see the pulp of her tooth. She has so much missing tooth structure, we had to extract the tooth. It's a real skill to be able to be a dentist, because it's as much of an art as it is a science. I look forward to being in that position and having that doctor patient
For me, the whole process went quite smoothly. I enjoyed working with Jacoby. We had a great rapport. I had the opportunity to assess the student in a minimally distracting setting and a reasonable time frame. Furthermore, Jacoby was eager to read out loud.
I had applied for a job at Catholic Guardian society; in 2001 I did get the job. It was working with young girls in a group home, place there by the court. A group home is a place that children are sent to, once in foster care. A child can be in a group homes for many reasons; such as running away from home, not going to school and getting being arrested. I work every shift that was allowed, sometime doing doubles. As a second language learner I have never expected myself to be a perfect writer throughout the semester. Even If English was my first language still, I would not be a perfect writer. It is not about first or second language, it is about how well I understand the learning objectives. Then organizing and writing with my own ideas and putting them in my paper. I am going to be honest, I am not good at English subject and English subject is my strongest weakness than the other subjects. In this paper I will discuss and analyze my own writing, reflecting on the ways that my writing has improved throughout the semester.
I feel that this Coop experience was a great way for me to reflect on my abilities to be a quality educator. I feel that I would have gotten more out of this Coop experience if our school year would have ended a little later, but overall, I think I received a lot from this time. My Coop was at my work at Head Start PDPY in North Platte. The center is a newly renovated room, so it is nice and clean with lots of storage space. Overall, I really enjoy working in the space because it is convenient and although it is small, we are able to make it work well. Ever since I started talking this class, English 1301, with Dr. Piercy, I have been able to expand my writing and thinking skills. Not only was I able to make more better essays but I also learned important topics such as how education creates an impact in the world. In this essay I will be talking about three writings and how they are related to this course semester. The three writings are “On Bullshit” by Harry Frankfurt, “Why I Write Bad” by Milo Beckman,and “Statement of Teaching Philosophy” by Stephen Booth. How are these 3 writings related to this semester’s course work?
When we were first given this assignment I had not put much consideration into it. I thought we were to ask a couple of questions, it would all work itself out and I would be done. But this was not the case. The thought and reflection put into interview questions really surprised me. There was far more factors other than the questions you were asking, because you were also dealing with people, people who are giving you there free time, their attention and opening themselves up to you a stranger, so there were far more responsibilities then what were initially at hand.
The internship that I acquired during the summer of 2010 at the Greenwood Sports and Industrial Rehabilitation Center (GSIRC), allowed me to gain an immeasurable amount of experience during my tenure at this facility. Within this period, the exposure to new concepts within the physical therapy industry allowed me to observe and work hands on with patients of all ages and disabilities that exposed me to various treatment plans and programs to restore client’s mobility. The essential Physical Education and Exercise Science (PEES) courses taken at Lander University were beneficial to my academic knowledgebase, which prepared me and developed me for the opportunity within the physical therapy discipline. Working as an intern taught me the responsibility of time management and working within a lean schedule that allow me to further develop my skill set. This reflection paper will illustrate my classroom experience, internship experience, and learning experience.
The business used for my internship this semester was Hyatt Place in Rogers, Arkansas. This location was once an AmeriSuites that was renovated into a Hyatt Place. The Rogers Hyatt Place is owned by McKibbon Hotel Management. McKibbon also owns seventy five other hotels in ten other states in the Southeastern United States. Hyatt Place has one hundred and three rooms in either king or two doubles. All of the rooms are suites and are separated into a couch area, and a bed area. Each room also holds a refrigerator, desk and flat screen t.v with HD channels. Hyatt Place has four main departments within the hotel. These departments include management, front desk, housekeeping and maintenance. The management team includes a General Manager, Assistant General Manager, Sales Director and an Operational Manager.
It has been a while since I started at the internship and I am really glad I decided to work here. I think the experience in this area is a good preview of my career and future. I am learning some important skills and finding out some things about myself and the tough skin I will need in order to stay in the area of juvenile support.
The clock reads 5:15 p.m. as I walk out the Ruston residence hall doors. I head towards the David L. Rice library, which is about a ten-minute walk from my dorm. As the sliding doors open, the strong aroma of coffee fills the air. I walk past the line at Starbucks and descend down the first flight of stairs. I turn left down the second hallway and enter room 0021. The pale, cream walls and clean whiteboard make the room appear brighter than it really is. Lovely, smiling faces welcome me as I sit down at the desk closest to the door. The Internship (2013) is about two middle-aged sale marketers who used to sell a small amount of products to local businesses that was until their company unexpectedly closed down leaving them jobless and in a mess trying to find a job that pays well without having a degree. The pair split in attempt to find themselves these sustainable jobs. However only one out of the two seems to find a somewhat decent job as a salesman at a mattress shop. I was given the internship only being 20 years of age when in reality it was required that the intern be of 21 years or older. I learned the value of appreciating the opportunities I get in life and making a good first impression. For instance, in the beginning I was afraid to conduct a therapeutic group, but after the help of my two Youth Behavioral Specialists, who supervised me throughout my internship experience, I came into my "comfort" zone if I may say. As an intern, I understood that my internship experience helped cultivate my understanding of the differences in age, mentality, and the environment each child is exposed to that leads them to develop these moderate to profound acute psychiatric disorders. I also established that working in a school setting like the Children’s Home of Reading-Acute Partial Hospitalization Program was not the place for me. The reason for this was because I felt it was unfair to each child to not be able to get the clear, cut attention they deserve. For my next internship, what I’ve decided to do differently is to engage and interact more with my next Supervisor. My parents arrived in the United States hoping for a better future not for themselves, but for the baby they carried in their arms. We would often move from relatives ' houses since my parents couldn’t afford renting an apartment themselves. We were fortunate enough to have caring relatives who didn 't mind us living with them since they knew the hardships we were going through.
