International student who study in the US will have a lot of chance to have the best job with the degree that they have in University or College. Should international students work while they are studying in the US? I think the government should let international students work off -campus to support themselves. International students should work while they are studying in the US because job is not only help students have money to pay for tuition or living expenses, but also improve the speaking skill and give them invaluable social experiences which are really needed in the future.
For example, at South Seattle Community College, resident students pay $73.90 per credit, while non-residents pay $245.60. Annually, a typical international student has to pay from $10,000 TO $15,000 for study fees, and at least $6,000 for living expenses(South Seattle Community college news, 2007, p6). This is definitely not a small amount of money, especially to students. While all their American classmates can legally have a job to pay for college, most students from overseas who are already allowed to work legally in their home countries have to cover the increasingly high expenses of college using their parents’ money. Therefore, to be able to pursue their studies at school, international students, in addition to saving money as much as possible, try to find a job off campus. However, they know that they are risking their stay at the United States. They live three people in one rented cramped room, make tables from traffic signs, and buy chairs from Goodwill. They go shopping in dollar tree stores, and they are familiar faces in food banks. Students, who choose to work under the table, are abused by callous employees. They usually get paid...

College graduates are already experiencing difficulty finding well-paying jobs and careers today. Free tuition does nothing to help grow the job market but just adds competition through degree inflation. This could cause degrees to be less meaningful and a rise in unemployment with college graduates aiming for better jobs. While we can acknowledge that these programs may be utilized in other countries with some success, many of these cultures have static labor markets, strict entrance requirements for their universities, and have other cultural limitations that prevent pursuit of degree by average or slightly above average students. A student who has only been academically focused without work experience, may not be the best candidate for a job as someone with less education and more experience. In fact, Germany, a country that offers free college based on merit, actually graduates fewer college
The goal of this research is to find out why the immigrant students have to face more challenges in the level of education they achieve, the high level poverty that they face in their daily lives and all the confusing networks they have around them which they have no clue of how to utilize it. Also, the research focusses on the fewer resources immigrant students have while achieving their goals. The research question is important as it does affect all immigrant students and their respective families and not limited just to the immigrant. I am sure many families move to a different country to achieve better education and to make a brighter future for themselves and their loved ones. These families come with so much hope and faith, but in return they are bombarded with so much confusing information that it’s very easy for them to get lost and give up. At last, children are the future and if from being they don’t have the correct resources then how will they achieve their goals.
To being with, college students today are economic pressure by school system and because of that student have become enslaved by financial aid department. This is an excellent quote by Zinsser he states: “they are the authentic voices of a generation that is panicky to succeed” (Zinsser 449). Student are spending more money than the actual value of their degree, on average student are spending 20-30 thousand each year just for tuition. Recently
Although we international students have brought a lot of benefits to our colleges, there are certain bad things that happen to us in return. International students are only allowed to work only when they have obtained their OPT, become a citizen or if the work is assigned by the school as part of the curriculum or major they are interested in. I know this is much offering from the government, but I think as students we deserve more, slightly like American students am not saying same but slightly after all they are citizens and we are not, but at least we should be allowed to work off campus and gained more financial help and more knowledge about what we going to face out there. For example, in other countries students are allowed to work outside
Employers consider a degree necessary for getting a job at their company. However, not many people can afford college. The solution is to take out loans, then college becomes affordable. These loans create a whole different issue, student loan debt. This can affect people their whole lifetime and has been happening for years upon years. But, in the more recent years America is starting to shed more light onto the issue and are becoming curious on why colleges charge twenty five thousand dollars, or more, for a year of education. Many different countries offer free college, but in America student loan debt keeps getting worse.
Imagine only paying for transportation, meals, supplies, room, board for college, and small college fees. This is exactly what other countries like Germany and Sweden are doing. Instead of having students pay an enormous amount for their education, these countries only require an individual to pay for their own basic needs with a small tuition fee as well. It is no surprise that students from the U.S are traveling overseas to get these benefits. In the meantime, colleges in the U.S have only become more expensive each year, and it’s greatly affecting graduating high school students since each student has to find a way to pay for his or her college tuition. The college graduates are then affected because they have to pay for the outrageous debt
For most families with teenagers applying for colleges there is one main question―what will it cost us? According to The College Board, the average cost of tuition and fees for the 2013–2014 school year was $30,094 at private colleges, $8,893 for state residents at public colleges, and $22,203 for out-of-state residents attending public universities. Although these numbers are averages, the actual costs of colleges are widely varied. A sad truth about this is that many students and their families don’t even know where all their money is going. Normally the money is paying for tuition; fees; housing and meals; books and school supplies; and personal and transportation expenses. As showed in the average cost of college, usually a school has a lower tuition for in-state residents and a vastly higher tuition for ou...
Some illegal families do not earn enough to provide everything for their children, so several illegal students become unable to attend college and only receive education up until high school. This only expands the number of unskilled workers in the United States. The aspiration for that to change sparked up with the Dream Act though, but will that lessen the cost of immigration? Competition for college is arduous enough already; the costs for tuition keep rising and almost every student is rushing for financial aid. Adding aid to about “1 million illegal immigrants” will end up costing “American taxpayers $6.2 billion per year” ("Dream Act Would Be Nightmare for America," B02). However, legalizing them and providing educational aid will benefit the economy in the long run, as it will increase the number of skilled workers over time. Still, it is something that will take great effort to reach, as some citizens might not agree. One school, The University of North Carolina allows illegal immigrants to admit if and only the undocumented immigrants graduate “from a U.S. high school, pay out-of-state tuition and do not get government financial aid” ("Educating Illegals," A10). Although it is a step for illegal immigrants to reach for something higher in their life, there remains the drawback of not being financially stable in the first place to pay for university. If other universities or colleges began to execute the same
Education comes at a high price for this generation and not just financially. Going to college can give students plenty of debt with no promise of a job in return, which can set a student father back on their course of life. Young adults trying to start their lives by going to college encounter many setbacks. Today the average cost for a private university is $25...
Whoever goes to college after high school are going to have a mountain of debts caused by student loans for the rest of the student’s life. College and universities are almost inaccessible to the people who want to achieve the dream job because of the high prices of college. In an article titled, “The Challenge of College Affordability: University of Alaska is a bargain in shaping the future” by Ashok K. Roy, it is stated that “The average student debt is approximately $26,600. Roughly $864 billion is out-standing in federal student loan debt while the remaining $150 billion is in private student loan debt”. People don’t have twenty-seven thousand dollars on hand to just pay for college out of pocket. Most people cannot even have breakfast, lunch and dinner, let alone spending money on college. Many students struggle with debt because of unemployment or under-employment. The same article stated, “The Center for the Study of Education Policy estimates that in 2012-13 the average tuition and fees at a four-year public universities was $8...
In the last few years, studying abroad has become an increasingly popular choice for higher education among international students (Accessibility Navigation, 2014). An average of 10% of students in universities all across the UK are international students from countries all over the world. (Accessibility Navigation, 2014). Although the experience is different for each individual student, there are many common problems that international students face. Those problems include: culture shock to varying degrees coupled with emotional issues(Bailey, 2005), Language barriers along with other communication problems (Sherry et al, 2009), and academic problems due to a change in school curriculum (Ramachandran, 2011). This essay will expand on the common problems faced by international students in the UK, offer solutions for handling the problems, and making the process of acclimating to a new environment easier for students.
The international students are expected to pay the full tuition fee, whereas the domestic students are eligible for heavy government subsidies and that is one of the reasons why there is a huge difference between the fee amounts. Many students take up part time jobs to make ends meet, but it is imperative to note that job opportunities are very limited and even those jobs that are available do not give a substantial income. Therefore, they must rely on their own money and be prepared for the expenses.
Going to study in a new country can be a stressful experience, from learning the culture norms to new foods. Culture shock is common with international students. Culture shock can include, meeting new people, language barriers, social behaviors, and a sense of community. A students comfortability with the culture of their new home can determine their learning experience. It can be an emotional rollercoaster, being so far away from family and friends. American culture is difficult to understand. International students find Americans to be confusing. Social norms vary depending on the part of the country a person is in.
Employment opportunities are the way for highly educated immigrants for their better career. According to Glennie & Chappell (2010), employment opportunities always give to well qualified migrants according to their faculty. Preference always goes to skilled immigrants. Host country gives the employment to students at a better level of education as compared to already qualified. For instance, according to a SAMP survey on students which is occur in Southern Africa illustrates that students who have job they already far away from employment opportunities as compared to Lesotho and Namibia is students. Moreover, professional development is very beneficial for immigrants they can get extraordinary opportunities and access the latest technology and other innovative sources regarding to their field. According to Glennie & Chappell (2010), in overseas countries most of the immigrants who have a job they can access to professional growth opportunities as well as better training and different participations. Immigrants can attain more money by working host country and it is helpful for them to make further steps in terms of career. In addition to it, better standard of living also a part of immigration to immigrants they can access convenient facilities, 24&7 electricity, water system and transportation system. According to Dogra (2011), in
Studying abroad can be one of the most rewarding experiences in a college’s students career. For many colleges, having their students can mean an increase in tuition, higher application rates, and overall better reviews by their students. According to the Indianapolis Business Journal, by Scott Olsen, “The Wall Street Journal reported last month that several small colleges are requiring students to pay full tuition even if the programs cost less, setting caps on the amount of financial aid sent abroad, and limiting how many students can participate”(5). Also, Olsen tells us “In the 2003-2004 school year, 7,208 students from Indiana universities went on study-abroad programs, according to the most recent statistics available from the Institute
