Instagram is Not Safe Many pre-teenagers are giving out their private information on social media, like their phone numbers, full name, email, school address, or even their home address. Giving out personal information can lead to kidnapping, or even lead to kids getting killed. Pre-teenagers on social media can find “friends,” but it could be an older man or woman just posting pictures of kids on that account. Also, kids on Instagram could be seeing or hearing inappropriate content. The claim by social researchers that Instagram is a dangerous addiction to middle school aged kids is true because of hackers and inappropriate content. To begin, hackers can lead to kids being kidnapped or even killed. A thirteen year old girl got kidnapped by a hacker, she thought was her friend (Fox News). If you’re friends with someone on any social media, make sure you know who it is, not a stranger. According to ABC News, “Instagram has a bad impact on a middle schoolers future.” This quote is basically saying that whatever is seen or heard on any social media impacts kids’ futures. Twelve year olds are getting kidnapped due to the Instagram hackers (ABC News). Abc news is saying that the more hackers that are making fake accounts, the …show more content…
According to Fox News, “Instagram has started to build up more inappropriate content in 2014.” This means that Instagram had the most people post inappropriate content three years ago. In the US the most adults posting this kind of content is in Iowa. Iowa is desperate for people to come to this state, so they post inappropriate content on the internet, (ABC News). According to Fox News, “16,000,000+ photos and 17,000+ videos were posted on Instagram, all of these were bad for kids.” Fox News is telling us that there are a lot of older people that want to scare kids, or simply don’t care if they are a negative
Studies also found that 6.4% had intentionally cut bruised or harmed themselves and that 8.1% had though about suicide and 1.3% had actually attempted suicide. This evidence shows that social media is bad for teens and preteens. If social media got banned then there would not be any sort of problem like this.
Social networking sites leave opportunities for vulnerability, however, I don’t believe many youths are an easy target. Using ethos, pathos and logos individuals can create their own reality to relate to the internet world who they think are and how they wish to be seen. In mediated publics such as Facebook and Instagram, the user has complete control of his or her profile and is the only one who can allow content about his/herself to be shared. It is my personal belief that as technology has evolved many people have taken to fabricating some truths here and there and omitting details to give an ideal representation of who they are without incriminating themselves or leaving themselves vulnerable for mistreatment. The fantasy of what is or could be is more desirable than reality. In the past few years, privacy settings have been adapted to cover the growing technological advances to keep users safe from online predators.

Some people use social media to communicate and keep in touch with friends and family. As a result of all of this information I have provided to you, there are more cons then there are pros when it comes to social media for kids under the age of 13. It is safe to wait until the child is the appropriate age to allow them on social media. Children under the age 13 should be more into school or natural play than social media. This can affect them a lot so please take my advice and wait until they are older so all of the cons can be avoided. When they are older they will be smarter, and able to understand what and what not to do.
Not only this, but kids are always on different forms of social media such as snapchat, instagram, facebook, and twitter. People are always
Social media or cancer? Just like cancer, social media slowly withers away people’s brains, especially in teenagers, when they consume almost everything they read. Social media has grown exponentially while attracting the young minds of teens and molding them without teens knowing. They latch on to things that they feel comfortable with, because they are still trying to find who they really are. Today, social media is used by almost every teenager in America. Sites like Twitter, Instagram, Vine, Snapchat, and Facebook can affect them in a negative way, making them feel worse about themselves or even changing who they really are. Social media can seem harmless to many teens, but it can actually hurt them and cause mental health issues.
There has been controversy as to whether parents should limit the use of social media by teenagers. Teenagers feel that there is no need to limit the use of their social media networking, but on the other hand, parents should feel the need to limit their use and also keep track of their teen’s social networking. Social media allows students to be connected with their peers, teens who post positive status are more likely to be involved in extracurricular activities, and for many teens putting up “selfies” is a self confidence boost; however, too much social media can affect students GPA in school, cyber bullying can affect social health. Social media networks can give out personal information. Social media sites such as Facebook are one of the most popular social media sites that has 700,000-750,000 members joining each day.
Social media is described as content created and shared by individuals on the web using freely available websites that allow users to create and post their own images, video and text information and then share that with either the entire internet or just a select group of friends (Affilorama, 2012). They are more like a website allowing you to express your daily activities, beliefs, locations, likes, dislikes, photos, music, etc. They are used by creating a profile, and logging in through either the website, or apps now used on smartphones, or any portable device with Wi-Fi connection. Although most social media networks are directed towards adults and young adults, young children are getting into these websites as well. There are usually age limits but there isn’t a certainty that all the users provided their actual age, allowing whoever wants to be a member of these sites to bypass an age limit “security” procedure. Facebook and MySpace require users to be at least 13, but they have no practical way to verify ages, and many young users prete...
When it comes to having an account online it can get quite dangerous. Not only is it dangerous but having the gadget lying around the house or even having their own at a young age can make it easier for them to have easy access to those social media accounts. Parents need to take precaution with their children and the internet. Meeting someone online is so much more different from meeting them in person. It is hard to tell if people and kids are their real age that they put on their information because you can actually lie about how old you really are. There has been many cases where involving younger girls talking to older men, a 15-year-old can be talking to a
According to the article, “10 Ways Social Media Affects Our Mental Problems,” Degreed claim that social media make us restless by “two-thirds admitted to having difficulty relaxing when unable to use their social media accounts.” Teenagers are always tired when they have to stay up late at night to catch up with all the news feed on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter that make them have no energy to go on the next day. Based on the newspaper, “Excessive Social Media Use Harms Children’s Mental Health,” by the Telegraph shows that “children who go on social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for more than three hours a day are more likely to have mental health problems.” Social media can lead to bullying that affects teenagers mental health issue and being stressed. Social media have now taken a part of human life and some are addicted to the point where they can’t even live without
I believe that the key to safe and secure social media begins with proper use. Illegal and highly discouraged activities should not be tolerated and consequences should be mandatory. In terms of social media use in teens and young adults, it is important for parents to teach their children what acceptable use of computers and social media is so that they can understand the potential danger and all minors should be monitored while using the Internet to ensure safe usage is being followed. Regardless of age, all users of social media should think twice before clicking the post button about what unintended consequences that post could have.
There are about one and a half billion users of social media worldwide. It can be used to meet new people, find old friends, chat the day away, join interest groups, or even to share pictures. Social networks were mostly created so people could meet and find new friends. What most users of social media don't know, are the dangers of using social media. One example is when you meet a person online, because they are not always who they say they are. If someone is not who you may think they are, who could they be? They can be a stalker or a person that wants to steal your identity; which could be done easily thanks to new developments of new technology. Also thanks to new technology it is now easier for people using your information to track you. Posting personal information can risk your family and friends lives. Social media can be used as a weapon against you. It can even lead to a kidnapping, or even someone's death. Many people use social media to help to waste time, but could also become an unhealthy addiction. Also social media can damage your future. When you are a teen you tend to post pretty much anything you want. This is dangerous because you can post too much personal information. What most teens don't realize is that what they do on social media now can affect them for the rest of their life. It can even come back to haunt you in the future. Social media is dangerous because it makes it easier to be stalked, identity theft to happen, kidnappings and murders, and also can ruin your future.
Technology has been and will continue to be an essential part of human life. Information technology is a revolution that has taken the whole world captive. Everyone around the globe is trying either to conform or catch up with the ever changing and improving technologies without having a second thought of its impact on their lives. The internet is the ground-breaking invention of the twenty first century, leading to the mushrooming of the social media and other communication platforms. The best invention that has captured my interest is the instagram. Its effect and how it has positively impacted on the lives of people, especially the youth cannot be underestimated. Instagram is improving the quality life. It has unlocked our creativity, enhanced connection and led to faster access to information. Comparing the past with the present, we can argue that information technology has done more good than harm and even as we progress into the future, we ought to adopt better technology because what we currently have may not be good enough.
