Social media has impacted many of our lives for the better. It's easy to see that along with time we continue to discover new advancements in technology. Along with that we begin to notice our lives becoming surrounded by technology features like social media. Social media offers many desired attributes, and serves as an easy form of communication. Although social media has many benefits to our daily lives it influences many attributes of our life. Social media is constantly influencing our language. Social media serves as a great source of new information and trends, and without our awareness we begin to change ourselves to conform to the vast world of social media. In social media you will find many different versions of slang including shorted terms, hashtags, and words that were simply created on social media. This effects the American language because people begin to intertwine social media slang into their daily vocabulary in a face-to-face discussion. You notice kids in the hall way saying things like "dope", or "sick dude", they also make common references to hashtag wcw or mcm. All these examples are not forms found in the standard American English language, and since when did the pound sign turn into a symbolic feature used on social media commonly known as a hashtag? Children of this generation typically don't understand when a parent refers to the pound symbol, so the adult must change their original perception of the pound sign and modify it to hashtag, in order to better relater to their children. The influence of social media on this generation is unbelievable, it's almost becomes hard to understand how we survived without social media and technology. Social media completely occupies our lives and distances us from our original language and social media also allows Americans to become even more lazy by being able to use shortened terms to shorten texting time. Social media strongly impacts our language due to the role it plays in our daily lives, we can't be completely reliant on social media if we plan on keeping our language
Currently, social media plays a significant role in our everyday lives and the way people in society interacts with one another. A few years ago, before its influence reached the point where it is now, the large platforms such as Facebook or Twitter which function was merely to keep family and friends connected no matter where they were or what they were doing, and the requirements were an internet connection and a smart phone or a computer. People would share pictures or posts to keep others “updated” on their lives and what they were thinking. Now social media platforms are far more complicated. In various of them, such as Instagram or Snapchat, it is not enough to only share a picture or video of your day, but it is almost a requirement and people are pushed to take an extra mile further away and make yourself appear interesting in the eyes of others. The “feed” requires to be eye catching, the captions should be memorable, the places one goes to ought to look way better than they actually are, you have to include friends in such posts to prove one have a social life outside of the phone.
