What is Video Art?
Video Art is a type of art which relies on moving pictures and compromises video and/or audio data. Video art came out of the mid to late 60's and 70's and it was named after the original analog video tape. In the early days, it went beyond experimental and set out to be a new branch of contemporary culture, and began to utilize the medium in conjunction with other art exhibits. The medium moved from primarily using videotape to formats such as digital video diska and solid state hard drives.
Video art and cinema are often grouped together, but it does not utilize the traditional aspects of film making such as concrete narration or plot-line. The artform is broken down into two different methodologies of presentations: single channel and installation techniques. Single-channell presentations are shown to the vieweer similar to a television broadcast, in which the art is simply broadcast. The installation technique employs video as a much more involved facet to the overall piece. The video becomes a part of the entire work, which may employ other artistic media as well.

you see video production that might be influenced by video art? Yes.
The advancement of technology has expanded the boundaries of video art. Now mobile phones, such as the iPhone, are using augmented reality applications to alter the way art is perceived. Augmented reality superimposes digital effects on a live stream from a mobile phones camera.Video artists are concerned that their work might be misidentified as films. This anxiety leads them to seek out venues for their work (warehouse art galleries and hard-to-find back-room viewing rooms) that will grant them the power to have it appreciated on its own terms. Artists may care about a disembodied feel of a projected work in a more open-air setting, or they may want to take advantage of the sculptural qualities of placing one or many TV monitors in the gallery space. For genuine aesthetic reasons, many great works of video art are not meant to be seen on someone’s TV or laptop at
home.
Controversial artists such as Mike Parr and Stelarc place emphasis on shock-value and meaning rather than traditional skills and aesthetics, and use their own bodies as a medium, while working with new mediums and technology such as video, performance, sound, and robotics. As Postmodern art continues to push the boundaries of what is - and isn’t acceptable as art, the general public is left to wonder ‘what comes next?’.
Art made with video is not the type of artwork that comes to mind when a museum is mentioned. Combining video with sculpture is a very unique form of art that a few explore successfully such as Tony Oursler. Oursler has taken art into another realm with video that could have not been thought imaginable as he brings his sculptures to life and gives them personality while touching on topics that are considered part of people’s private lives and human behavior. (Reservechannel). Sitting and observing one of Oursler’s sculptures evokes a different experience in comparison to looking at an inanimate sculpture or two dimensional artwork.
Today I will be describing my design for a music video set in ancient Sumer. My video will depict elements from the Hymns of Inanna and the video of “Blurred Lines.” These two elements will allow a reflection of the cultural metanarrative and the sexual script of ancient Sumer. The video will play out between two gods and a priestess. My video will have four main sections that will breakdown what the video consists of and how it all comes together. These sections will be my main characters, setting, imagery, and lastly the theme of the video. There will be subsections that serve to only expand on each of my main sections and to give clarity to them.
The camera angle and filming style is most often straight on and multiple characters talk to the camera and audience directly with close up camera angels.... ... middle of paper ... ... The ability of the film to be interpreted in various ways also fits my personal definition of art because I believe that upholding multiple interpretations and not having a clear right or wrong interpretation is art’s defining factor.
Thomas Merton once said “Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” What is art? Art contain ways for people to express themselves through different means. One can sculpt, paint or draw; it really depends on how the person wants to express himself/herself. When people think of art, they tend to think of Pablo Picasso, Frida Kahlo or even Leonardo da Vinci. Yes, these long established artists paved the way, but art contains so much more. Art can include so many meanings and as a whole continues to evolve. Bill Viola portrays the way that art can change through time and with technology. Bill Viola helped discover video art. He received a Bachelor in Fine Art from the University of Syracuse in 1973. He knew art contained ways for him to express himself through different outlets. His art demonstrates different aspects of life and experiences. He primarily focuses on experiences such as life, death and even how one perceives different events. He takes different experiences and displays the art through video. The works that demonstrate his views the most include Isolde's ascension - The shape of light in the space after death 2005, Passage into Night 2005 and Earth, Air, Fire, Water 2014.
The formal characteristics of the work are crucial in their produced effect upon the audience. It is a four panel screen landscape, whose size of 7354 cubic meters is made referent in the title. Despite its monumental size, the work does not function as an oppressive weapon but rather a positive force, one that is able to free us from our inhibitions. Rist frequently experiments with the various ways in which video can be projected onto surfaces. Though she does not push the technical boundaries of the video medium medium, she nonetheless pushes the limits within video projection. Requiring seven different projectors to be linked seamlessly, her work is a technical achievement for this feat alone. A large circular couch occupies the center of the exhibition space. Its shape is meant to be reminiscent of the human iris, but also bring to mind the iris of the camera as well.
Mise en scene is a French theatrical term meaning “placing on stage,” or more accurately, the arrangement of all visual elements of a theatrical production within a given playing area or stage. The exact area of a playing area or stage is contained by the proscenium arch, which encloses the stage in a picture frame of sorts. However, the acting area is more ambiguous and acts with more fluidity by reaching out into the auditorium and audience. Whatever the margins of the stage may be, mise en scene is a three dimensional continuation of the space an audience occupies consisting of depth, width, and height. No matter how hard one tries to create a separate dimension from the audience, it is in vain as the audience always relates itself to the staging area. Mise en scene in movies is slightly more complicated than that of an actual theater, as it is a compilation of the visual principles of live theater in the form of a painting, hence the term “motion picture.” A filmmaker arranges objects and people within a given three-dimensional area as a stage director would. However, once it is photographed, the three-dimensional planes arranged by the director are flattened to a two-dimensional image of the real thing. This eliminates the third dimension from the film while it is still occupied by the audience, giving a movie the semblance of an audience in an art gallery. This being so, mis en scene in movies is therefore analogous to the art of painting in that an image of formal patterns and shapes is presented on a flat surface and is enclosed within a frame with the addition of that image having the ability to move freely within its confines. A thorough mise en scene evaluation can be an analysis of the way things are place on stage in...
Virtual art is the product of long-standing traditions in art merged with revolutionary technological advances. With innovations emerging almost as fast as end-users can test and master new systems, technology has dramatically altered our daily lives and changed our thought processes. Like many technological advances, virtual and cyber realities have been embraced, and often created by, artists that experiment with the myriad of possibilities that technology can offer. While there have been many works of art inspired and created by means of digital advances, the medium has yet to be defined and its boundaries have not yet been identified. Since technology and virtual art are just beginning to be explored, the medium is in its infancy and thus cannot be judged based upon traditional mores of art. Before virtual art can achieve prominence and respect within the art world, many barriers of tradition must first be abolished.
In 1750, slaves constituted roughly eighty-five to eighty-eight percent of the population in territories conquered by Great Britain and France. By 1830, the population of slaves dropped four to eight percent in British and French territories (Palmie, 248). Regardless of the population decrease of slaves, enslaved people far outnumbered white slave owners. In reaction to a heavily populated slave society, slave codes were created to establish white dominance and superiority over enslaved people. These codes prohibited “unauthorized movement, large congregations, possession of guns and other weapons, … and secret ritual practice” (Palmie, 254).
From Mark Twain to Vincent van Gogh, each genre of art comes with its greatest master. There are many compelling arguments to why this specific artist, musician or writer is the best in their category. In modern days, we don’t have a Mozart, or a Hemingway or even an Andy Warhol. There are many good artists of their own kind and many more are emerging thanks to new technology and new forms of media art. However, many arguments are made as to why these forms of art aren’t considered true forms of art. A few years back and even today, many argue that digital paintings aren’t real art so it is not surprising when people don’t think of a video game as an art form, but it is. The world is at constant change and so is art.

In the early days of cinema it was suggested that cinema is never art, film was said to be a photographic record of an artistic performance but not an art form in its own right but film is much more than a recording, filmmakers make numerous choices about every shot they make then you need to edit the film which results in the final product which is completely different to what an eyewitness to the filmed event would or could see, more people today have the view that all or most film is art, Noel Carroll whose book on mass art is a book on the effort to ...
The Creative Arts play a significant role in early childhood education as it provides children with a diverse range of skills to enhance their learning and development to meet the needs of succeeding in the 21st century. In the art community there is a lot of controversy in distinguishing what the difference between an artist and a designer. Designers are told they are not artist and they need to stop thinking they are artist. When dealing with art and design specific demographics and viewers interpret the messages of each subject in different ways. Art is said to be elucidated and design is said to be understood. Artists usually develop a work of art with the intention of bringing an emotion viewpoint, instinctive feeling, and or state of mind. When you look at an artist work it cannot be limited to just exhibiting one individual thought or just one individual meaning. That is a big difference when it comes to graphic design. Graphic design usually has a very specific goal and point to make. When dealing with graphic design there should not be any room or space for any mixed messages or multiple meanings. The audience of the design should immediately understand the design that the designer created. Art connects to people differently in so many ways. The only reason it connects to people in different ways is only because it is interpreted differently.
I would like to be a video editor because I think it would be a great experience. It would help me make videos much better looking for an audience. I would love this as a lifetime job and do editing for big businesses like FOX or YouTube, things like that. I want to be a video editor because I have always fantasized of being a big person and doing a job with computers. I love working and making films better. I used to make videos better for people when I lived in Houston.
