He is a former prosecutor and is now South Carolina’s fourth district state representative. When he was a prosecutor he worked to enforce the laws of South Carolina to the fullest. Lawyers have to complete law school, no easy task, and then pass the BAR exam to become a lawyer. The BAR exam usually take about two days to complete. In Iowa, depending on what school you attend, your pass/fail rate may be anywhere from sixty to ninety percent. Before attending law school most will get a bachelors degree in a field that will benefit them as a lawyer. Many people get a degree in business or history, both are valuable topics for lawyers. Some colleges have the option for students to take a pre-law course. Sometimes this is a full program and other times it may be just a year or semester. Pre-law can be a valuable course for potential lawyers. Someone may even find out they don’t want to be a lawyer or have anything to do with law because of their experience with a pre-law course. One the other side you may strengthen you feelings to become a lawyer and proceed with your schooling in this area. Now, to get into law school someone needs to pass the LSAT, or Law School Admission Test. The LSAT is about four to five hours long and just because you do good doesn’t mean you'll be accepted. Lawyers as many people know do have the benefit of a very good salary. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average pay for a lawyer was 115,820 a year. Lawyers can make more than that, especially if they work in a private firm. Private firms allow lawyers to make more money, because the lawyer is only limited by the amount of cases they take in a year. The major drawback of working in a private firm is longer hours. With longer hours you won’t be home as much and if you are trying to raise a family, these ong hour will prove to be your nemesis.
