Information Sharing And Interagency Cooperation (MBI)

Increasing the law includes a variety of actions carried out by different entities within law enforcement. Information sharing has increased considerably throughout all levels of law enforcement allowing for improvements in the capability to identify, prevent, and react to different levels of crime. Sharing information isn’t a solitary combined method, but rather it combines efforts at all levels. A common approach contains circulated sharing methods with lets each department retain their information while also making it available for others.

Interagency Cooperation

Disaster and crime extend beyond the city borders so task forces and interagency cooperation help ensure that departments will get assistance when needed even if it’s coming from other jurisdictions. Mutual aid agreements have become a vital means for fighting numerous crimes and backing up other departments in order to accomplish a particular goal. These task forces are an effective way to pool specializations, resources, and giving credit for work accomplished.

A Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation was created in 1978 in Orlando. The MBI consists of 17 agencies from local, state, and federal task forces. These forces investigate a range of crimes, such as organized crime, narcotics, and

vices. Prior to that, Orlando’s ordinances were not very strong. The community was being run by vice associated establishments. These vices used the benefit of weak ordinances to establish adult shops and entertainment business. One main reason the MBI was created was to fight the negativity associated with the vice industries (Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation, 2015).
The Orlando Police Department is a joint effort involving more than two agencies with a shared goal of reducing crime problems. In the case of Orlando, the MBI is a co-led force that involves the U.S. Marshals and Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Their main goal is to recognize, pinpoint, and arrest felons in the area. However, the lead agency depends on jurisdiction. For instance, if a crime happens in the city of Orlando, the Orlando police maintain jurisdiction, but with other agencies working together as one entity with the capability to increase intelligence, coordination, and communication. This creates a more effectual use for the resources and pursing offenders (Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation, 2015).
Interagency cooperation is a must to effectively address criminal justice issues. However, people have to understand that law enforcement is used in the aspects of first responders the emergencies, accidents, and other crises. Interagency cooperation enhances the capabilities of all involved. The implications from the lack of cooperation was noted and demonstrated during the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks of 2001. The modernization of police departments have made it possible for fusion cells. It is not uncommon to see a federal or state actor working inside a local department (Partree, 2015).
Communication between agencies could certainly be improved. For example, Hurricane Katrina of 2005 presented the biggest challenge for all levels of law enforcement. The impact showed the lack of interoperability between agencies. In addition, there were too much “red-tape” for law enforcement to make effective decisions to mitigate loss of property and lives (Partree, 2015). There must be a constant flow of communication with minimal impediments to the senders and receivers.
The mistakes from other agencies have opened the eyes of law enforcement and taught them many things.

Best practices are used for strategic planning. More incidents have been adverted by the cooperation between departments. As stated earlier, multiagency operations increase the resources and capabilities of both parties involved. For example, it could double the manpower for a search and rescue, services could overlap, and definitely it extends the long arm of the law. In addition, many agencies lack certain specialties such as hostage negotiators, and/or bomb technicians, etc. Mistakes have been made, operations have failed, and the loss of life as accompanied because of the lack of multiagency

cooperation.
There have been many changes in law enforcement roles over the past few years because of the provisions, policies, and laws that are being reformed through the judicial process. The Constitution governs the practices of law enforcement but LE practices are manipulated by social pressures and social change. The future of law enforcement would combine more community support mechanisms or change into more technically advanced services that use more technology with less contact with the public (Partree, 2015). Both are viable as long as transparency is still established. For example, automation is making its way into many public processes which alleviate the human err thus increasing more efficiencies.
The biggest change that should be made in law enforcement is cutting red tape or the hierarchy mentality. Joint operations are hindered because of the lack of clarity of roles and responsibilities. This can be improved by detained “mutual aid agreements,” established policies, and provisions dictating who is in charge. The result would be fluidity in operations, increased efficiency, and a sustainable service (Eggers, 2005).
Crime is a widespread event that demands response. It makes law enforcement’s job demanding, unsafe, and difficult at times. The use of task forces has brought a positive influence on the profession and brought agencies closer together. It allows strategies and ideas to be exchanged while building relationships that are fulfilling and rewarding. The idea behind task forces is to fight crimes through avoidance, safety, prosecution, and joint efforts. The end outcome is that law enforcement remains effective and professional with successful results.
