Movies were watched in the 90s.Some were animated and others were played out by real actors. One animated movie, The Lion King, was famed for the storyline and the music. Another movie, The Titanic, was seen as a good movie because of the characters and the melancholy theme.
Aren't some toys so fun? Well, so were these toys from the 90's. The Barbie was a toy that many American girls played with. You can change the way she looked and she had a bevy of features. Another toy that enhanced a child's creativity was the Lego brick. These toys let children put the plastic bricks together to make cars, houses and more. The Furby was one electronic toy that you could take care of and play with.
Fashion influenced many people in the 90s. Women’s
clothes became more feminine while men's clothes were based on the "grunge" look or the "business" look. Some people decided to keep wearing the colorful fashions from the 80s while others changed their styles. Music was a way to relax and entertain in the 90s.Some music was sad and about love or problems. Other songs were energetic and had rhythmic beats. One song, Another Day in Paradise, By Phil Collins was sad and about the poor while Pump up The Jam was energetic and funky.
This website article provides the history of Barbie and her newly inspiring images for young women. Barbie was the new popular doll during World War 2 because she provided something inspiring for young girls and something that mothers felt strong about, independence. Barbie helped with what was being told to women, that they didn’t have to settle for being just a housewife or a stay at home mother. Women around the country could have a variety, a choice to work and have a career. “Barbie’s early professions were limited
I am not saying that a Barbi doll is necessarily a bad thing, besides the fact that some of her outfits are frightening, but I would rather have the life like rocket that can fly a 100 feet up before it returns to the ground. This discussion might appear superficial at first, but there is an underlying problem to why a parent might want to encourage their young daughters to play with a science kit instead of deciding what evening gown Barbi looks best in. A lot of the toys designed for boys might also be used as a learning tool. When a boy plays with legos and starts to create buildings he is developing his creativity. This act could lead him into a career as an architect or engineer. When he is encouraged to play with rockets or a microscope he has the potential of developing an interest in science that could lead him into a career working on satellites.
Overall I thought that this was a very advanced movie for its time, being made in 1993, they used an upcoming popular art style which intrigued many viewers. It was not your run of the mill type of movie, which I think helped make it more popular. I would recommend this movie to everyone I know, it is kid friendly and can be interesting for adults to watch too
Bratz Dolls came about in 2001 by MGA Entertainment. The 4 dolls are Yasmin, Cloe, Jade, and Sasha. These dolls are known to be unrealistic, unproportional, and inappropriate depictions of young girls. The American Psychological Association feels that the Bratz doll could even be considered worse that the Barbie doll because of the clothes that Bratz dolls wear. The average consumer of a Bratz doll is a girl around the age of eight. Bratz dolls give young girls an impossible, extremely unrealistic idea of how they and all women should look to be successful.
I noticed the girls’ toys engaged fine motor skills more than the boys’ toys did. The girls have several different types and sizes of dolls to choose from – however, this also makes dolls or items used with dolls (Barbie clothes, doll clothes, doll houses, Barbie cars, and doll furniture). Over half of all the products in the girls’ section. This shows the stereotypical attitude that all girls like to nurture and will someday be expected to be mothers and the primary care giver for their children. Other toys I noticed that were very stereotypical were the child size vacuum, broom, and kitchen set.
There are many powers that can be effective in establishing an ethical climate. The power that I think would be most effective for Paradigm Toys is referent power. Referent power is described as power of an individual over their employees because of the respect the employees have for them (Randall, 2012). A manager who has referent power will have the trust and respect from their employees which will in turn demonstrate to the employee how they should behave and what ethical behavior looks like. The referent manager will demonstrate the proper ethical behaviors and employees will learn from that and imitate their managers.
Toy stores are perfect places for a sociologist to use their sociological imagination. Gendering and racism is thought to be something that is socially constructed as opposed to biologically constructed. Gendering starts during infancy, and around 2 years old children start to internalize these gender differences. I argue that children’s toys help socialize children into gender specific roles. Toy stores, like Target and Toys R Us help us understand what types of toys help to gender children. I will explain how the toys in the toy aisles differ and compare. Not all toys are either male or female, some toys are gender neutral.
Those perfect days as a child when your countless days were filled with playtime. The time to set up those houses and dress the dolls up, and act out the future. “Through their play Barbara imagined their lives as adults. They used the dolls to reflect the adult world around them. They would sit and carry on conversations, making the dolls real people” (Ruth Handler). As a young child, it is all you look forward to in your future: being successful and confident, loved and cherished. Many dolls were used to project this. Specifically, the Barbie. Barbie is a positive role model girl should look up to for confidence and inspiration. She is a talented and educated career woman, self-sufficient in every aspect of her life, and a stunning example to young girls the body that is healthy and fit.
The word toy was first used in the 14th century with its origin still unknown. A toy is defined as an object for kids to play with and is usually a typical duplicate or model of something. A toy engages a child’s fantasy and imagination to learn and build their world. A toy also provides pleasure and companionship to both children and the adults especially the female adults. Toys are the eye-catching diversion for young children and serve as the representation of the adult world of the older children.
It may seem trivial and go unnoticed to most, but by assigning Barbie a real career, people are able to identify with and recognize her. The marketers also provide Barbie with a life other than modeling, such as friends and a home. The Ken doll, which is commonly known as Barbie’s boyfriend, makes her appear more real to the audience. Girls are able to identify with the idea of a boyfriend, which makes the notion of Barbie seem more realistic and desirable. The same idea is applied to the many friends Barbie has been accompanied by over the years. Lastly, and perhaps most famously, Barbie, like almost all of the girls who play with her, have a home. The Barbie Dream House is just another clever way her marketing team has presented her to society as a real person. Humanizing Barbie, and portraying her in such a manner makes her more attractive to potential buyers. The girls who engage in play with dolls do not want merely a doll; they desire something they can relate to and envision in the real world. Imaginative play is a large portion of childhood, and the ability for children to posses a doll like Barbie , who represents a real person in society, is extremely valuable. The use of social constructionism in the marketing of products such as Barbie is both brilliant and effective.
What is a toy? Children have played with toys for centuries. Each time period has its own toy(s) specific and known for in that time period. Toys can be expensive for families who do not have a high income or for people who have multiple children. To solve this complication John Spilsbury invented the first homemade project. According to Tim Lambert “He created a jigsaw puzzle by cutting out sections of the map he intended to teach geography to people but many people would go on and use jigsaw puzzles as a form of entertainment.” Spilsbury lead the way to a future where many toys will be created by people and everyday objects that they have around them. For this project the activity created was the making of Playdough.
Many people go to the movies. The movies are an escape into a fantasy world. Everyone has a different preference on what kind of movie is the best. Romance, horror, action, and comedy are different types of movies. The kind of movie someone goes to see can give clues to what kind of person they are.
If one child frequently pulls toys from the hands of other children the guidance technique I will use is redirected by attracting the child's attention to play with something else. I will give the child two choices to choose from, like telling the child, you can share the toy you are playing with or you can play with a different toy instead. Another helpful technique is to explain him the consequences if he does not share a toy with other children. One of the consequences could be if he does not share the toy with the children, then when we go outside to play in the playground he will stay by me and hold my hand. I will set rules and enforce them with positive language by telling the child, you take a turn playing with the toy then another
Toys can be fun but it can also be dangerous. There is a higher risk for ages 3 and under to be within that danger zone be used they are always putting things in their mouth which can lead to choking. Research has shown the increase of children ending in the hospital because of toys injuries. For toy injuries to decrease there guidelines that should be follow starting off with the manufactures. When a toy is being created they would put labels on the toy so the buyer knows age group. If the buyer gets a toy it's also their responsibility to follow certain guidelines, for example if a toy is made of fabric it should be labeled as flame resistant or flame retardant, art material should say nontoxic and stuff should be washable. The toy buyer has to make sure the toy is appropriate for certain child depending on the child's age. But what if the child comprehends or is advance and can handle toys that are for older kids, what do you do? When a toy buyer is purchasing a toy for a child the first thing that should pop into their head is safety, so they need to make sure that the toy has an appropriate age for the child therefore when a company makes a toy they make it for a specific age not intelligent. Once the toy has been bought and given to the child it's very important for the children to know how to use the toy.
When you are picking out a new toy for a young child there are several things you need to consider . The first thing to look for when selecting a toy is that it 's age appropriate for your child. This is very important cause by choosing the right toy it can help the child have fun and be educational at the same time. When you choose a toy that a child is too young for the child they can end up choking on it . Another thing that might happen when the toy is too advanced that they will get frustrated. Other things you need to look for when buying a toy include if its washable, toxic , to small, has safe ingredients and is nonviolent. You also need to make sure the toy is flame resistant.
