People can influence their environment in positive and negative ways. However, our environment can also influence people in both directions. It has been demonstrated that personality is almost completely learned by our environment. For example, some hereditary factors that contribute to personality development can do it as a result of interactions with the specific social environment in which people live. Therefore, we should try to surround ourselves with items and people that produce positive associations with us. The environment can also influence people’s behavior and motivation to performance in a positive or a negative direction, and it also can influence our mood. Children and adolescents spend a large part of their day in school …show more content…
Children are more prompt to be reasonable and cooperative if they develop in environments that support their needs. Schools also encompassing children’s physical and mental health, safety, and social development. It has been demonstrated that social preference and social reputation among peers can have a big influenced in children’s and adolescent’s development. Moreover, families and their economics situations can also have a great impact in children’s and adolescents’ emotions and behaviors. For example, when parents experienced high levels of stress, this can influence children’s and adolescents’ behaviors in a negative way. For adolescents, parent’s stress can mean increases in risky behaviors and less development. These adolescents will not develop good social skills and will lose the opportunity to learn good social norms that could help them to have a good reputation among peers and family. Parents’ stress can also lead to bad family functioning which is translated in more adolescents’ emotional and behavior problems. Big levels of family conflicts and poor communication skills can break family relations and have a big impact in children’s emotional security. At the same time family conflicts can reinforce the use of aggression and interpersonal hostility by …show more content…
I counted 25 people who had contact with me and smiled at the same time. I was really impressed with people’s reaction to the popularity t-shirt. Because I am a non-traditional student, 42 years old, I do not have many friends at the university and sometimes I feel isolated. However, the day I used my popularity t-shirt, I felt very happy and integrated to the university’s environment. It is amazing how our social reputation can influence reciprocal interactions among people. People are highly susceptible to environmental triggers and these triggers can strongly seed responses on us. For one day, I could confirm the idea of the transactional model which states that reciprocal interactions between individuals and their environment can have lasting effects on
The stand or fall of social environment has a strong impact on the formation of a child’s behavior. Wes P had begun selling drugs, which was making him plenty of money. He explained his cash flow and expensive purchases by telling his mother he had become a successful DJ in the neighborhood. “ Tony found his younger brother and asked for an explanation for the learning tower of Nikes. Wes stuttered out a story: he’d became a popular DJ and was making incredible loot DJing parties.”(69) While Mary believed him, Tony did not. One day he came by the house and noticed Wes P’s room had changed a lot, and a tower of new shoe boxes convinced Tony that Wes had gotten into the drug game. Under the influence of society and vanity, Wes P chose a wrong to making money to sell drug. Throughout the current juvenile crime is visiting trend and the situation of the children more and more to discipline. I believe that in addition to the existing school education way and the modern social development also does not adapt and family education also has a larger error, largely due to social bad education caused by environment factor. Society environment is also equally important, and a good society environment is more conducive to the healthy growth of children, but no more important than family and school environment to the
The debate of nature vs. nurture continues today in the world of psychology. The effects of an individual’s genetics and the effects of their environment on their personality and actions is an age old debate that is still inconclusive. However, it is evident that both sides of the argument carry some form of the truth. It can be contended that the major characteristics of an individual are formed by their environment, more specifically, their past experiences. An individual’s past moulds and shapes their identity, if they do not make an effort to move on from it.
All of these factors show that the environment around adolescents can either positively affect them or negatively affect them. The environment can positively affect adolescents by supporting the child and acknowledging that they can achieve what they want. The environment can negatively affect the adolescents by not giving up its own time to help the adolescents or ignoring any small achievements that they may make.
... relationship does not affect the adolescent’s behavior, but his academic performance. However, it is proven that adolescents from single parent family are more likely to develop deviant behaviors, and one of the main reasons is that the parent is unable to establish a strong bond with the adolescent, as this bond can be used as a shield, deflecting them to be less willing in engaging criminal behaviors. Other factors, such as poor neighborhood conditions, can also result in poorer parenting, which affects the adolescent’s behavior. Also, children who have suffered child abuse are generally filled with more violence, resulting in their aggressive behaviors due to a accumulated anger. Hence, we can conclude that parenting is the main cause for juvenile delinquency as it has the most influence and direct impact for causing an adolescent to develop delinquent behavior.
During the adolescent year’s children goes through physical and mental changes which could cause them to act deviant. Family support and good family structure is needed to help an adolescent cope with changes in their behavior. Other family crises such as parents’ divorce, death, and economics factor can trigger a child to act out differently as a mean to seek attention. Juveniles are not as good at decision making as adults, because they are young and does not have much experience in life they could make bad decisions that would make their life difficult. Youngsters do not think of the consequences of their action thus “they face deciding whether to engage in a risky behavior, such as taking drugs, shoplifting, or getting into a fight, in situation involving emotions, stress, peer pressure, and little time for reflection” (national academic press). Adults could think rationally where as children do not develop to think rationally between the ages of ten and seventeen thus children should not be punished as bad as an adult.
Nature’s influence is not limited to appearance but extends further than that. Studies have shown that people inherit cognitive abilities and temperament patterns from their parents. The new question in today's research is: to what extent does nature’s role play in the formation of a human personality and whether the environment can favorably or adversely affect one’s personality (Sigelman & Rider, 2009).
“The most beautiful thing in this world is to see your parents smiling and knowing that you are the reason behind that smile.” Our parents’ first concern; which parenting style to follow in order to raise up a well-developed, and well-mannered person. Matter of fact, a huge debate went over this particular issue, whether strict parenting is the right method, or being leant is the correct method. "There is clear evidence that parents can and do influence children." (Maccoby 1). Although, there are numerous factors that can affect the parenting process, or affect the way the parents treat the child (Bossard 333) (Maccoby 1). For instance, different home circumstances... the divided home, or the neglectful home, or the mother-controlled home, or may be the overly demanding home, or the home with too many bosses, so all these different home atmospheres are major factors that affect the development of any child (Bossard 333). In addition, the parents’ attitude towards the child is mostly effective in the formation of the child's personality (Bossard 334). Furthermore, the genetic effect of the child is very important, researches proved that genes are one of the most effective factors in the parenting process, and genes affect the child's own behavior characteristics, and also influences the way the parents are tending to treat their son/daughter (Maccoby 5). I will explain the three major parenting styles and will prove that it is not possible to assume that there is one best style to follow, because each home or family have their own special cases or circumstances that will affect the parenting process
Moreover, Arslan, E., Durmusoglgu-Saltali, N., & Yilmaz, H. (2011) investigated that children who has emotional, behavioral traits, and social skills has enhance in their development progress. In recent years, there has been a substantial increase in studies related to children dealing with this social and emotional development domain. For instance, Liew (2012) state that the temperament behavior are not events that happen instantaneously; rather they are long term processes that are composed of a sequence of potentially of self-regulations skills to adapt the child into their academic achievement success with their “school readiness.” The children are continuing to get to know their feelings more and adjusts to them.
Another factor in the development of children is the education that they receive. If a child has a good experience in school, they will come out a better person. If the child has antisocial behavior, the experience in school may make that behavior wor...
There are many different aspects of environment that can affect the development of children. One major environmental impact that influences the development of a child is the neighborhood they are raised in. Within the neighborhood there are several other aspect of influence. Where a child is raised can affect their behavior, attitudes, emotions, personality, values, health, and so much more. This can be seen in their personal lives at home to their social lives around others in classrooms. The affects of a child’s development due to their environment can be seen in both a positive and negative aspect. The neighborhood that a child is raised in can be very critical in their development. It may have a significant effect on what he or she becomes in the future.
In the previous study, Milevsky, Schlechter, Klem, and Kehl (2008) states that adolescence with either both parents are neglectful parenting style or one of the parent is neglectful parenting style score lower on self-esteem than adolescence without neglectful parenting style parent. In daily life, parents that let their children involve in making family decision lead their children to higher self-esteem level than parents that only want their children obey without giving any reason. Parents with authoritative parenting style are more flexible, openness to discussion and also willing to compromise toward their children. In a sample of 230 college student, Buri, Louiselle, Misukanis and Mueller (1988) found that
Personality traits can affect success in school and many other long-term outcomes. Traits affect daily moods as well (Feist & Feist, 2009). An individual’s personality may seem unstable from one situation to the next: this means that an individual may be acutely aware of his or her academic work, but not aware of the cleanliness of his home or the working condition of his car (Feist & Feist, 2009). The lack of interest in the cleanliness of the home and the working order of the car may be from any number of factors, but it still points out that his trait of being conscientious is situational. A person’s disposition will only affect his behavior under certain conditions or in specific situations (Feist & Feist, 2009). This observation seems to suggest that an individual’s perceptions of self and situation play a strong role in behavior, as opposed to personality as the only indicator (Feist & Feist, 2009). Another example of situational changes in personality includes dating. A person that is outgoing and friendly may be shy and reserved when on a date with a new person, or when they around someone they are interested in. This may be because the person wants to make a good impression; it co...
Hence, role of children’s environment and the people in that environment in shaping the children’s behaviour is very important for middle age group children. For example, research shows families in low socio-economic position households, living in disadvantages neighbourhoods, provided fewer experiences. This may be in part due to the challenges families living in socially and economically disadvantages circumstances face in accessing the financial and social resources needed to provide reach early learning environment for children. Second example, “In one study, researchers went into homes and observed how extensively parents from welfare and middle income professionals families talked and communicated with their young children. They found that the middle income professional parents were more likely to communicate with their young children than the welfare parents were (Santrock 2016. 356)”. Sometime children who are raised in an abusive environment tend to have difficulties dealing with emotions that include fear and inferiority. Childhood abuse inflicts a sense of shame on child and they may feel inferior to the others. So the positive environment helps children to build self-confidence, self –esteem, doing
According to the internet human behavior has a very big affect on the environment. Environmental settings such as air pollution, oceans, energy, or noise are all sources that can negatively impact the environmental quality and conditions. Our daily routines have a huge impact on the environment and we do not realize it. New laws that are passing and educating people will help a lot. People are being educated on how to use less water, use our cars less, how to use less energy, and even taking reusable bags when going grocery shopping because plastic bags are very bad for the environment. There are simple solutions that can help in getting started with these efforts. Every little step and effort we make in our daily routines count.
First, the importance of having a moral in youth could help those avoiding social problems. In family, parents play an important role in teaching them about moral values.
