This study examined the relationship between the individual, adolescence’s family, and the school’s climate and how that impacts the adolescence’s behavior. individual has and how that can affect the individual’s behavior. The behavior of the adolescent has multiple scenarios. The study that was conducted included 675 adolescents in middle school and high school. The study happened during the spring of 2010. The adolescents completed a survey at the beginning of the school day. The survey included demographic questions, questions related to the school environment, the parent’s support, and the aspirations of the adolescent. Another part of the survey was the adolescent measuring themselves on conduct problems and depression. The results of this study showed that there is strong correlations between the aspirations of an adolescent, the parent’s aspirations, and the school climate and the conduct problems of the adolescent.
The climate of the school is negatively associated with the adolescent’s conduct problems. When the parent supports the adolescent that serves as a protective barrier from conduct problems. Lastly, the adolescent’s confidence, parent’s aspirations, and the school climate are negatively correlated with depression.
All of these factors show that the environment around adolescents can either positively affect them or negatively affect them. The environment can positively affect adolescents by supporting the child and acknowledging that they can achieve what they want. The environment can negatively affect the adolescents by not giving up its own time to help the adolescents or ignoring any small achievements that they may make.
This article was interesting to read. This article makes me think about all of my siblings who I have seen grown up around me and I can relate the article to their life. One adolescent that comes in mind is someone who would have parents that would try to get involve in school work and other activities. There are several aspects that shape children experience of childhood, such as environmental factors, biological factors and interpersonal relationship which includes parenting aspects. From the writer’s perception, environmental factors, mainly speak about the child surrounding while biological factors include everything about gender, physical and mental health of child and the upbringing of a child. Parenting styles refer to a set of different manners in which parents raise their children. There are four parenting styles including authoritarian, authoritative, permissive, and uninvolved parenting. The authoritarian parenting style is based on the implementation of rules, and on the idea that all rules should be followed without exceptions. The behavior of a child grows in a patterned manner just as the body. Like the physical growth, behavior too is strongly influenced by the home and other surroundings in which the child grows up. While we all have a lifetime to develop varying aspects of ourselves, it is the childhood period that is the most important in acquiring many tools. The strongest and the longest environment to affect the child are the parents. Most parents consider it their responsibility as well as the privilege to provide the best possible environment favorable to child's physical growth. Young adolescents can be described as ages 10-15 years old, but it is also considered that adolescence continues until the age of 25. During this time in an adolescent’s life there are many internal and external factors that affect the development of each individual. When development happens differently for these kids it can affect their psychological development if they focus too much on how fast, or slow they are developing in comparison to their peers. Some adolescents may let their peers influence their behaviors creating a problem with how they interact with others, or how they view themselves as a person. The middle school is a place where students are guided through these developmental experiences with the help of their peers, teachers, administrators, parents and community.
To start us off, there are three domains of development, which are physical, cognitive, and psychosocial. Although, these domains are experienced in ALL stages of life, I will be discussing how adolescents experience them. First, are the physical changes an adolescent will experience. A couple include puberty and brain development. Also, the danger of sexually transmitted infections. Secondly, is the cognitive development in adolescents, an aspect being the moral development.
