College has consistently seemed miles away from ever happening, but suddenly it’s now only months away. Despite claiming we want to graduate, the thought of going off to college is nerve-wracking. For me, the nerves are alleviated by the thought of what I’ll be doing. For the last two years, I have known what I would study in college and do for the foreseeable future. I want to go to SUNY Fredonia to study Inclusive Childhood Education 1-6 with a middle school extension, concentrating in English. For me SUNY Fredonia offers the best experiences necessary for my degree, while letting me live away from home and learn how to be independent. Deciding to become a teacher, was never about finding a job where I would be rich, it was about taking my
passion for helping others, being a leader, literature, and the English language and finding a job where I could do all of those things everyday. My passion for teaching comes from wanting to influence and inspire the next generation of kids to love learning, but most importantly give them confidence in themselves. Growing up, the people who inspired me were the teachers I had. No matter what they never gave up on us and always had fun and interactive ways for us to learn. The inclusive part of my degree is exciting. Every kid deserves a chance to learn equally, which includes kids with any type of disability. I’ve grown up helping people with developmental disabilities, and I knew I would have to find someway to still do that as I got older, teaching kids with disabilities seemed like the perfect fit. Some people tell me I’m crazy for wanting to teach little kids, or for spending all this time just to be in a classroom everyday for many years. Although I know it least five years of schooling won’t be the easiest task I’ve ever put my mind too, I’m determined that I want to make a difference and teach kids.
The movement for inclusion in education has advanced since the years of special schools for children with disabilities. Although there have been significant changes to the laws protecting the rights of children with disabilities there remains an underlying debate as to whether these children should be in main stream classes. Most states and territories in Australia practice inclusive education, however this remains a contentious topic with differing attitudes. It is evident whilst many challenges remain, schools should implement and deliver quality programs that reflect best practice policies. The implementation of policy and legislation related to inclusive education, thus being a focus on the diversity and difference in our society (Ashman & Elkins, 2009), would have vast implications on the way society views that which is different to the accepted “norm”.

When she was a senior she had no idea what she was going to do her following year, all she knew was that her parents wanted her to attend college. I was offered a higher position at the Kalamazoo home improvement store and it allowed me to move closer to my girlfriend. While working, I saw how the company was making changes; some were good, and some were bad. There was even talk about stores closing. This left me pondering whether or not I should stay or begin looking into other career options. While thinking about that, I started thinking that I should look for something with more constancy, with less possibility of downsizing. This research report presents an analysis of and conclusions drawn from the experiences and perspectives of two educators that work in the early childhood setting. The main objective is to identify key elements and issues in relation to the families, diversity and difference. In particular how an early childhood educator implements, different approaches to honour culture and diversity, and to advocate for social justice in an early childhood settings. As such, it allows an insight into the important role that families and their background plays in the everyday lives of the children and educators within early childhood settings. In today’s ever-changing growing society it is essential for educators to be flexible to the diversity and differences with families of today. Gaining an insight into way that educators view and approach these important elements will enable the readers to understand that diversity and social justice is not only interwoven into today’s education system but also the educators themselves.
As the end of my senior year in high school approached, I had to make an important decision. What school was I going to spend the next few years of my life at? When the financial aid packages arrived, I was torn between two colleges. After sitting down with my mother and discussing the advantages and disadvantages of both schools, I came to my final decision. It seemed like a year ago I was imagining what college life would be like and suddenly before my eyes, I would be a college student in a matter of four months.
Curriculum is the organized framework that explains the content that children are to learn, the processes through which children achieve the identified curricular goals, what teachers do to help children achieve these goals and the context in which teaching and learning occur. Issues i will also cover are Special Educational Needs (SEN), Every Child Matters (EMC), Diversity and legislations. I intend on doing this by arguing, analyzing and discussing the inclusive learning environment. Inclusive learning environments can be varied from the school environment to the home environment. Both having a significant impact to a child’s learning. The environment within schools needs to be stimulating, creative and enjoyable for all children to learn in. Effective classroom organization, interaction between both staff and children are essential to the inclusive learning environment.

I’ve just entered my senior year of high school. I know that this is a very important year. I have a lot of decisions to make and not much time to make them. These decisions will either make or break my life, and I want to make sure that I make them to the best of my ability because there is no turning back. I need to make sure I definitely want to attend college. The decision is totally up to me. There are many positives and negatives of attending college. Go over them, and then decide. I know myself better then anyone else, and I won’t let anyone else tell me what to do. I will make sure if I am going to attend college that I have something in mind that I will want to do, to succeed in. When developing a philosophy there are many different parts of early childhood that you must consider. There are also many philosophers that you can stem your philosophy from. One of my favorite philosophers is Magda Gerber because she came up with the term Educarer, because “we should educate while we care and care while we educate.” (Gerber, p.502) The purpose of early care and education is to help mold our children into great students and people throughout life.
I am a senior in the Childhood Education program at St. John’s University. During my time as a student, I have worked as an administrative assistant in the Office of Institutional Research at the university. Throughout the Childhood Education program, I have met the required hours of observation. During observations, I’ve gained knowledge from master teachers as they instruct their students and manage their classrooms.
Prior to Introduction to Inclusive Education, I viewed people with disabilities from the separation perspective. They were the obvious group of individuals, the people motioning down the street with canes, walking with obedient guide dogs, parking within the blue lines, sitting in the reserved seats at the front of the bus, staring in the designated section to see the sign language interpretation, and the people who simply didn’t blend in with the rest. People with disabilities were different and incapable to perform like others; or if they could perform, they needed assistance at all times. I held this viewpoint, not because I wanted to, but because society played a critical role in my outlook.
