Early Childhood Education Philosophy

When developing a philosophy there are many different parts of early childhood that you must consider. There are also many philosophers that you can stem your philosophy from. One of my favorite philosophers is Magda Gerber because she came up with the term Educarer, because “we should educate while we care and care while we educate.” (Gerber, p.502) The purpose of early care and education is to help mold our children into great students and people throughout life. I strongly believe that you can help a child’s life at such a young age to help them understand that no matter what, there was that one person in my life that helped me and wanted me to learn. Being able to know there needs and help them succeed in their education or life to make the student better. Getting to know the students and knowing their strengths and weaknesses will help them be able to move forward and grow as an individual. Having an individualized plan for each student is extremely important. When it comes to child especially at such a young age of infants having an individualized plan for them will help them succeed in life.
It is important to get families involved in the classroom environment. If you create a classroom that makes the parents feel welcome, you will most likely get them more involved. Ideas for creating a family welcoming classroom could be creating cubbies for parents for them to visit at the end of the day or at the beginning. I believe that Gardner’s multiple intelligences plays a huge role. I believe that every student is different therefore every student will learn different. I think that every curriculum should have different stations that can help the children learn in their own way, and if they don’t feel conformable with doing one station than that is okay. Another part of developmentally appropriate practices that I think is important is what is important to the family in the child’s learning. Putting the expectations of the parents or homecare provider is very important. You want to make sure that you and they are on the same page when it comes to there child’s learning. Doing the best for each child is what is important in developmentally appropriate practice. Making sure that nothing is too hard for the students, which can cause them to not succeed or making things to easy for them can cause them to get bored so knowing the child and there learning points is extremely
