In my article I read it discusses how incivility is a big problem in higher education. Incivility is a serious issue that needs to be talked about more in our society. The negative impact that incivility brings is educators cannot preform their best in teaching duties, disruption of the learning process and the classroom learning environment, and the deterioration of the faculty – student relationship. I have seen incivility all through when I was in grade school and even in college affecting many students and their education. Seeing staff members abuse their power over students has stopped many students from being successful. Seeing faculty members have clicks as if they were in High School is utterly ridiculous.
In my article it stated that “The highest percentage of students (55.4%) recorded a high level of uncivil behavior, while faculty staff recorded a lower level regarding aggressive uncivil student behaviors.” (Nurse

If more faculty had meetings about how to make the students great instead of worrying about the negative things that comes around many more institutions would succeed. I am big on helping our youth succeed and that is why I chose to go in this field of Adult and Higher Education. Especially being an African American it is much harder to succeed in an all white dominant school. For example I will use Morehead State, it is a white dominant university with 2% black people. Many black students are scared to reach out to the faculty because they are scared they might not get the help they want compared to the white students. If I could change the likely hood of that I really would to no matter what race they are everyone must graduate and be happy to attend Morehead State. It’s already a given that incivility has been taking over institutions for more than a decade now. The institutions that have less civility going on are the ones that succeed
Lastly, what colleges can do to encourage more intergroup interaction is they can acknowledge self-segregation more and help get students out of their comfort zone. Colleges can also be aware of key issues. They can ask students questions about what’d they would like to see more around campus. Learn and explore about other cultures. Statistics show that black students are less likely to earn college degrees (Guiffrida & Douthit 2010). Black students are less likely to graduate than Whites at PWIs and may have a lower GPA. At first, many people wrote this off as them not being prepared academically. However, there are many other factors that influence their success at college that stems away from just the academics. Interaction with faculty, family, friends, and other peers in the Black community all contribute to their experience and success at college. The relationship with faculty is key component when looking at their success at school. Previous studies noted that Black students have a difficult time making connections with White faculty members, because they are concerned about the stereotypes the professors may have about them. However, through proper education, awareness, and truly listening to students’ experiences and concerns, this can change and White faculty members can serve as mentors to students of color. Faculty members need to keep an open mind and be aware of their own biases. Having a strong support system at home also contributes to Black students’ successes and retention rates. Family provides emotional, academic, and sometimes financial support. Participation in affinity groups also help Blacks integrate into the campus community. Everyday thousands of people suffer from some type of violence, some may able to live and see the next day and even be able to overcome it and become and advocate to other, however others are not so lucky. No one should ever have to be a victim of any type of abuse, whether it is verbally, emotionally, physically or mentally. Interpersonal violence is a term often used to describe sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and stalking (UNC Charlotte, 2017). No matter what type of violence is being experiences, the victim should always know that it is not their fault, that is help, and safety is available.

Engagement in peaceful and violent interactions, as well as the conflicts consequent from the, has changed greatly in the modern world. With the vast advancement in technology, our ability to communicate over long distances with various media devices has improved the ability to conduct peaceful conversations. This in itself decreases the chances of violence as all party members involved in a conflict of some sort are able to access and correspond with one another, if they so choose, without jumping the gun and heading straight into a violent solution. However, weapon technology develops simultaneously with modern technology, resulting in extreme weapons of mass destruction such as nuclear weapons and the fact that these weapons are so easily accessible enables violent interactions. Both the “Conflict Resolution” and “Nonviolence” paradigms have not been able to keep up with the development of modern technology and are therefore not applicable in some instances. While the “Conflict Resolution” paradigm maintains its applicability for most situations, the “Nonviolence” paradigm becomes obsolete in regards to the nuclear weapons that play such a large role in modern day conflicts. Nevertheless, both paradigms are useful tools in international peacemaking – methods such as negotiation from the “Conflict Resolution” paradigm are independent from the type of conflict involved. Experiencing incivility in today’s society is a relatively common occurrence. When faced with it, most people tend to try to just shrug it off, not taking too much offense to it, and definitely not confronting the problem. Although this may not seem like too much of an issue, studies have shown that incivility causes a variety of individual, social, and organizational problems.
Thoughts such as “why did I leave my old team?” or “you know what you have. But, you never know what you will get” repeats in my mind even after a year has passed. I cannot wait to find another job because of my growing resentment. My current four-person team has a malfunction; incivility. Within my first week on this team, my team lead talked negatively about my other teammates. She constantly stated that the work was not ‘rocket science’. The most common statement that she makes is that she has so much work versus what we have to do. My drive to stay passed 4:30pm are maintaining my job and earning overtime pay. According to the Webster dictionary, incivility is a rude or discourteous act. Numerous researches and studies prove that incivility is on the rise. Incivility is not only negative to one employee. It has a negative impact on an organization because it decreases productivity and increases cost.
Experts say that bullying begins around middle school, where children are changing to young adults. In bullying there are three people involved the bully, the victim, and the bystander. The bystander also holds responsibility when bullying occurs, because they are present but never take part because they fear the intimidator. Often targets are considered to be “different” from others, and that consists of students having specials needs, being gay, bisexual, overweight, or most importantly students who are viewed as easy prey. Bullying is an activity that thrives mostly in a school setting because of peers and the various cultures and diversities among them. Interactions are inevitable among children, but bullying is destructive because it aims at peer victimisation. Both boys and girls have the ability to become bullies but the majority of them are boys who use physical and verbal attacks on their victims. In the more recent generations, the means of bullying is amplified in the adolescent stage by using electronic means like cyber bullying.
