Cell Phones Are More Than Just Distractions In recent years a majority of people believe that cell phones have drawn people away from the old traditional ways of going through life. The crazy thing is that those people are exactly right. The problem is that they are only seeing the negatives towards cell phones being a distraction. Technology has definitely changed the way things work around the world. Devices such as cell phones have enhanced the way we communicate, organize, and learn. Cell phones and other electronic technology are sought out to be distractions, but the beneficial outcomes for future generations are worth the minor losses. One of the clear topics discussed through out “In Defense of Distraction” was that cell phones and the internet have dramatically influenced the way people think. Of course, with all the access people have to learn something on the web, it would shift people to think in another way. Changing the way people think has others questioning if the way is truly efficient and ends up with a faster result. Technology used educationally has only come into full effect for a couple years now. There is a tremendous amount of positive outcomes that can come about in future years due to technology in classrooms. This is a major benefit because smart phones today include ways of instant communication and information. The three authors, John-Harmen Valk, Ahmed T. Rashid, and Laurent Elder of “Using Mobile Phones to Improve Educational Outcomes: An Analysis of Evidence from Asia” discover that the use of technology in the classroom actually boosts test scores (Elder). In the journal article the authors includes case studies in which they have studied the effectiveness of learning through technology and how that has benefitted them to do big things with their knowledge. It is important that people realize this and come to learn that technology has changed the way people encounter life. Yet, in the end it does not have a dramatic negative effect because of the advantage technology has put today’s society
