The cell phone is a great thing. Did you know that about 90% of the population owns a cell phone(Madrigal, Alexis C)? Our society is affected greatly by the use of cellphones in such ways as; sleep deprivation, communication, and Distraction. There are many things that the cell phone is good for but there are just as many negatives that come from them, if not there are more. The number of people who own cell phones has gone up about 27% since year 2004(Madrigal, Alexis C). The first effect is the fact that it can greatly affect peoples sleep patterns in a bad way (American Academy of Sleep). For instance, Studies show that only 50 minutes of cell phone use increases brain cell activity. This means that it wears your brain out, making you more tired. Also phones that were turned off did not create the same brain cell activity as it did when it was on. Another example, would be the fact that it has not yet been fully proven that the cell phone has any danger to your health at all(Dellorto, Danielle). Also, The radiation from the cell phones affects younger people more because their skulls are thinner making it easier for the radiation to penetrate deeper into the skull. This is makes teenasgers more at risk than adults. Also, in order for the brain to be impacted the cell phone needs to be close to your head. Also, The radiation from the from the cell phones has been proven to cause sleep insomnia. Its different for everyone for how the cell phone can affect you. Some people don’t get enough sleep because of phones and some aren’t able to sleep because of them, and some are not affected at all. The second effect is the communication between family and friends. For example, 65% of people who have cell phones say that the phones ... ... middle of paper ... ...s Network, 23 Feb. 2011. A common theme is taking place where as people feel that cell phones are starting to take over others daily lives. Many people go through their day to day lives not even relizing how often they are on their cell phones. In the article, “Our Cell Phones, Ourselves” the author Christine Rosen talks about how cell phones are starting to become a necessity in every way towards peoples lives. Rosen talks about both the good and bad effects of cell phones and how they have changed the way in which we work our daily life. Although I think cell phones can be necissary, the constant need for use could be the beginning of how cell phones will take over our every day lives.
Cell phones are gradually affecting American culture today because they are becoming a key part of everyday life. The cell phone is "?an indispensable companion that serves without favor or prejudice. It has reached into every civilized corner of the world--and often brought civilization with it. From its wires spring the words of history in the making, the chatter of daily life" ("43 Years" sc. 1). The cell phone enables individuals to communicate rapidly over great distances and obtain information like never before. People can now pick up the phone and get information on the weather, time, stock market quotations, and other things simply by dialing a few numbers. Cell phones connect the world together, to the point where individuals become almost helpless without it. The next time you find yourself waiting at a stoplight, take the time to observe the people around you. There will likely be at least one person in the surrounding cars who is talking on the phone. Even on the streets, people continue to chat on the phone. Cell phones are everywhere. One resident in Greenville, S.C. admitted that he uses his cell phone at least 15 times a day (Chany sc. 2). The cell phone is in such high use that the traditional phones in homes and offices almost become antique devices on display. Although traditional phones are still around, individuals are quicker to pick up their cell phone.
To begin, the use of cellphones in one’s daily life can be detrimental to their physical health. According to Lizette Borreli, “ Ninety-one percent of American adults and 60 percent of teens” own a cell phone. This is almost all of America that owns a cellphone. Although it is very common for those with cellphones to text as their primary form of communication, the use of a cell phone when speaking to one verbally can negatively impact the cell
In the article entitled, “Our Cell Phones Ourselves”, Christine Rosen describes how cell phones have changed the way we communicate. Rosen tells the readers the main purpose for cell phone use in the past, versus present day. Her purpose is to make society aware of how cell phones have influenced our lives in order to inspire change as to how we view our cell phones. Rosen directs her writing to everyone in the present day by describing the negative results of cell phone use and how it impacts our lives and those around us. Without a doubt, cell phones are going to be a part of our world, but it is the responsibility of every cell phone owner to exercise self control and understand that a cell phone is nothing more than a device.
Today’s society accepted phones so fast and easily, that most of the things that can harm us, are actually some of our social norms that we don’t even realize we are doing. Cell phones can have effects on the way people think and act, their interactions with people in society, and the amount information people retain from the direct result of multi-tasking. Cell phones are a very important asset to people, and good resources of information, but they can have negative effects on people such as depression, anxiety, and addiction to the use of the cell phone. Distractions from cell phone use have also been linked to many motor vehicle accidents as well. Cell phones were created to make our lives better, and more efficient, but do they harm us more than help
Are cell phones a harmful distraction to society? With advances in technology today, the demand for better cell phones is skyrocketing. With new technological advancements happening everyday with cell phones, people are starting to depend on a cell phone for everyday tasks. Cell phones allow the user to contact friends or family with the touch of a button and allows them to play games in times of boredom. As a result of everyday use, cell phones have affected relationships, the brain, and health.
"How dangerous could a cell phone actually be?" That is one of the many questions a person will ask themselves throughout their lifetime. Cell phones cause many distractions to humans throughout the day. Many cell phone owners find themselves checking their phones for messages and notifications even when the phone did not vibrate or ring. The overuse of cell phones will have negative effects on the mental and physical health of its users, will cause driving distractions, and will have a negative impact on the communication skills of humans.
Cell phones have changed the way we go about life in many ways. They change the way we interact with people in our everyday life. They hinder our physical aspect of life without us even knowing. One of the biggest issues I see is the changes it creates in our classrooms from an educational standpoint. Cell phones have been negatively impacting our lives in some very important ways.
As a rule, almost everyone uses some form of technology before bed, but what people do not realize is that the use of electronics can negatively impact their sleep. For example, studies have shown that when a person, typically a teenager, but not always, plays a video game before they try to sleep they will fall asleep later and have a less restful slumber. Similarly, people who often utilize the internet or their cell phones on a daily basis are more likely to have some form of sleep deprivation, snoring, insomnia, sleep apnea, etc., than those who do not use their electronic devices regularly. Moreover, cell phone usage has steadily climbed throughout the world for the last few years, especially in teens and young adults, even poor and remote countries have large amounts of cell phone users.
Generally, cell phones serve to improve lives, especially if used correctly. To an extent, life nowadays can be unimaginable without the use of cell phones, as we have come to rely heavily on them in our daily lives. As technology improves, the uses and features of the phones also increase, thus making it even harder to do without one. Works Cited for: Agar, John. Phones have changed over the past twenty years and have had a positive and negative effect on people. Man kind as find many ways to communicate and stay connected with each other and the most common way is by a cellphone. Phones Cellphones have become one apart of our daily lives and some people just cannot live without them. In fact people use them more like computes than an actual phone itself. Most people let their phones control their lives and if their not carful it could have some serious consequences. Phones continue to get more and more advanced as time moves forward. However, in the beginning phones had a tough time getting out to the public however, if it was not for the first step into technology we would not have the phones we have today.
Mobiles are said to cause brain tumors, they say this because there was found to be more tumors of the same kind amongst mobile phone users. Mobiles cause memory loss, radiation sickness. Mobiles can disturb your sleep pattern, according to the researchers from the university of Zurich, mobile phones increases brain activity during our sleep. A really strange result of the use of mobile phones is that mobile phones can release the poisonous mercury from fillings causing brain damage, scientist say this is due to the electrical fields given off by mobile phones can activate the mercury, giving off a gas. The fumes attach the nervous system causing conditions from depression, asthma to Alzheimer’s disease and multiple sclerosis.
In today’s world the vast majority of the population owns a cell phone. Cell phones are a huge part of people’s everyday lives. Since the 1940’s when mobile phones became available for automobiles, phone companies have made huge strides in making mobile phones more efficient, much smaller, and more available for anyone to use. There was a time where only people of wealth had these types of mobile phones. Now people from all social classes own a cell phone. They are extremely convenient and have the ability to do just about anything you can think of. There is an “app” for everything. You can make phone calls, text message, surf the web, pay your bills, read books, catch up on social media, and even listen to you music all from one small handheld device. Cell phones play a huge role in today’s economy. Businesses such as AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint have become huge public corporations with large stakes in the stock market. Between these companies among several other phone companies they have created millions of jobs and opportunities. Cell phone companies have now created what are known as “smart phones”. These phones are typically slim and sleek and have countless versatile abilities. However, cell phones have not always been so “smart” or small for that matter.
First of all, using mobile phone has the negative effect of affecting the health. The scientific data are exploring the relationship between radiation from mobile phones and brain disease. "Research carried out by scientists in Finland suggests radiation from mobile phones causes changes in the brain. It is the first time that scientists have looked at the effects of mobile phone radiation on human cells rather than those of rats"(BBC NEWS, 19 Jun 02 | Health, "Fresh fears over mobile phones"). From above we must understand that research did find a higher incidence of brain tumors on the same side as phone usage.
Overall the smartphone is a good tool that has proved itself over the years. It allows people to know what is going on in today’s society, and it helps people stay in touch. At this point in time everyone needs to understand what is going on in the world around them, but at the same time they need to be careful about how much time they spend on their phones. Too much of something is not good, but a respectable amount
